Because I can
I am usually just such the voice of reason. I make the right choices, act the right way. This is good for my life for the most part. But, something, I just want to do something contrary just because I can.
I figure, there are a bunch of idiots running amonk doing stuff like that all of the time. Somehow, they are forgiven, liked even, and they're having all of the fun, damn them. So, I may cuase some trouble once in a while........just because I can. I won't cross many boundries. I may just tap them once in a while. But, damnit, my punk rock roots are showing. Do you ever get the urge to just be contrary? :snap: |
No.
|
Boring piece of crap.
 |
You see, by saying, "no," I was in fact being contrary, instantly nullifying my "no" as a valid answer. It was an ironic statement, a logical impossibility, and thus.....aw forget it.
|
Yes. I believe it kicked in the other night, and it still hasn't gone away. Maybe it's a weird form of spring fever, or early menopause.
|
I think contrary is my middle name.
|
Keeping with the "C" thing in your family. ;)
|
yes..duh
|
I'm still learning to be contrary and selfish - I question myself a lot and talk myself out of a lot of things, but so far I can't say I have any regrets for any of my contrary acts.
|
When I get bitchy, I feel bad later.
It happens to me, but I don't like it. :( |
Here's your evil smiley
 |
You know, that's the weird thing- I'm not feeling bitchy, just kind of...mischevious. :D
|
Oh yeah. PMS Bitchy has NOTHING to do with it. I just like to stir things up a bit.
I think I still have more to learn from my best friend. |
I have been listening to a lot of old punky music lately....
|
Maybe with my husband. Other than that, not too often. I leave that up to the experts. There seems to be quite a few of them around.
I find that a "Live and Let Live" attitude works best for me. |
I guess that just isn't my thing. I hate practical jokes, even just watching them on TV. I hate spurring an argument or a misunderstanding. I just can't get into sh!t-stirring.
If I'm feeling what I'd call "mischievous", I tickle someone, or make a bit of a joke at someone's expense, or something, but all in good fun. I don't expose someone's true insecurities or argue with someone on purpose or start a drama ball rolling. I don't find that fun. Each to his own. :) |
Practical jokes? Ugh. Boring stuff. Calling someone on their BS, priceless. Now, if only they'd "get" it.
Now, those who say they are not into **** stirring are just a bunch of liars (come on, obvious much?). Like GD said originally - No. |

I didn't "request" contrary. I was just being honest about it.

Edit: But for some reason, I'm feeling quite removed from that mood these days... |
Hmmm there seems to be some sort of "fiesty - defensive" dicotomy going on here...
|
Well, it's sort of like masterbation and men. 95% say they do it and the other 5% are liers.
|
masturbation. liars. (does that count as contrary?)
|
Well, Let's leave YOU out of the convo here.

Call me a contrary butt plug, because I like to be a **** stopper. I get sick of crap. That's just my nature. I like to cut to the chase and get things off my chest. But that's just me.

SPLORT! Okay, the next time I get a butt plug I'm going to name it "Claire." |
hmmmmmmmm......

I also like to mix metaphors.

I don't understand all this contrarian conversation.
I personally like to play everything straight and narrow. I don't like to make waves. I just play it by the book; follow all the rules. I stay far away from boundaries, never pushing them at all. Just call me boring and predictable. |

damn... there goes our fun |

I don't even need to post here.. everyone knows I am contrary.

"The contrary of every matter of fact is still possible; because it can never imply a contradiction, and is conceived by the mind with the same facility and disticntness, as if ever so comformable to reality."

I have to disagree. I think at least some people really aren't into stirring ****. I almost never am, unless it's someone I really can't stand, then my childish side takes over. I do admit to enjoying watching others fight on occasion, though. Childish again. Like GD said though, I'd rather not fight most days, but if someone throws something my way I'm usually more than happy to throw back. Even more childish, I know. I try really hard not to call people on their BS, even if it's really obvious, because I haven't ever encountered anyone that wasn't at least a little full of it. Those that do make a point to call out others usually end up looking like asses because their own BS shows through. We're all so imperfect that we're better off trying to improve ourselves more and make ourselves look better less. When I was really involved in dance years ago my mean side really had a chance to shine (dance will bring that out in people, especially teaching/choreographing). I quickly decided that that side needed to be locked away most of the time. I've had enough **** stirring from myself and others that I stay as far from it as possible now. I do enjoy being contrary in a less vindictive way. I take evil pleasure in knowing the quirks of those I'm closest too and playing off them. The real reason we aren't telling anyone the baby's name is just because it drives my family crazy. If it didn't bother them, I probably wouldn't bother doing it. As I'm posting this though, I'm really hoping that this thread doesn't have anything to do with whatever soap opera-ish stuff that goes on offline that I don't usually have a clue about. If it does, then consider me clueless. My post is just about general contrary-ness. |
Nope. We've decided there is a Mischief Virus going around, and we are all just feeling it's effects. We're just being playful, people! Chill and get silly with us, or ignore us.
|
I'm all about mischief, but some of the posts in this thread weren't clearly playful. I don't think I should have to be playful or shut up. I don't need to chill. My post was general, not directed at anyone, hence the disclaimer.
|
You asked a flipping question, and then jump on me for responding? Not cool- and all I was doing was explaining the original intent and mood when this thread started. Wtf?
Thanks for messing up my good mood. |

There have been serious posts in this thread (as in seriously talking about being contrary) so I didn't think I was doing anything wrong by posting something non-playful. When you said to get playful or ignore you (basically to shut up) I found that dismissive. If I have a real thought on a subject in a thread I should be able to say it. I didn't attack anyone, nor do I feel obligated to be playful. I was just posting my thoughts about being contrary. |
I was referring to the same people you were, and you too. I did not say shut up, I said ignore, and there is a huge difference. In our house, saying shut up is as bad as swearing, so if I say it, I will make it worth my while and say soemthing along the lines of "Shut the **** up". I was having fun, could understand your confusion, and was trying to help out. Won't make that mistake again.
|
Wendy, I really think we are getting worked up over nothing. I like you! I just thought you were getting mad at me for posting something serious when you thought the thread should be playful. I just don't like being told to be the way others are being or ignore it. I'm sure I mistook your tone. Cool?
|
You did, and it is.
|
I'm not often in control of my contrary impulses. I wish I was more impulsive and rebellious than moody and rude.
Rudeness is especially unforgivable. I find that I'll often chose politeness over honesty when I'm in disagreeable company. And just once I'd actually like to fire off what I'm *really* thinking, and see the looks on their faces. But then I start to worry that it's not just a matter of being true to myself, it's a question of also being rude to others to satisfy my own satisfaction. So, I'm completely not sure what's the better road to travel a lot of the time. As a result, I kind of stand still useless and bewildered. |

Now I feel bad. Really. :( I'm sorry, Traci, if my odd form of banter with Lisa helped cause your misunderstanding with Wendybeth. I do like to mess with people on occasion and the fact that this thread was about mischief was too good to resist. I didn't mean to throw off anyone else's groove. |
Yeah, no groove throwing-offing peoples!
I would have hated to see this brought into the parking LoT! Glad the confusion's over. (Or at least here, to pretending it is! :    ) |

Yeah, CP- what she said. Np- it is hard to really 'read' what's happening sometimes, and a lot of times there is a backstory to some of our playing. But we were just playing and being silly. Maybe it's spring fever.... |
If this is the worst drama we ever get over here, we're totally blessed. :birdy:

Now, Jen and I know each other really well. We have have knock down drag outs and really good times. She's one of the people on this board whose covers I can pull. And, she can pull mine. But, there's nothing going on there that isn't backed by love. Just wait into UberGeek and I get into it. He's a NASTY cover-ripper-offer - and I love him!:snap: So, I'm not sure I'm ready to be "good" again. I sort of liked being a bad girl last night. The Park was FUN! But, just don't take me too seriously. I don't want anyone to get themselves in trouble. Swank is still the attitude. |
Yea, apparently taking a little day trip down the path to the dark side can get ya in deep...
From now on, just like like Carol Ann, I'm heading directly for the light, or is it away from the light I never can remember that one.... |
If you're dead and you want to cross over -- Head toward the light! You're not feeling that bad are you?? Get well soon!

Ya know, it is weird watching other people fight.

Clothes ripping, of course.
