Hawaii

I'm in the Sheraton Waikiki in Oahu. It's nice.

Wish you were here.

Snowflake 02-04-2007 07:00 PM

:p

Alex 02-04-2007 07:02 PM

I'm in my living room.

Wish you weren't in Waikiki.

Stan4dSteph 02-04-2007 07:16 PM

I'm cold. It's 12 F outside.

DreadPirateRoberts 02-04-2007 07:34 PM

Doing fieldwork for a future Lilo & Stitch Mousepod?

Alex 02-04-2007 07:45 PM

If so, he's on the wrong island.

mousepod, can you stop by 7-11 and get me a chicken curry manapua? And you're close to Daiei so could you stop by and get me some chicken chow fun and a couple almond cookies from the stalls outside. And to conclude my proxy reminiscence, could you cut through the parking lot of the church across the street (using the covered driveway) and go up to my old apartment?

mousepod 02-04-2007 08:37 PM

Alex - I would be delighted. The chow fun might be a little gummy and cold by the time I get it back to the bay area, though.

This is actually the first time I've been here. I've been to Maui twice before - what an utterly different experience.

I'm actually do the "Disney & WWII" podcast this week, and I imagine that my visit to Pearl Harbor and the War Museum will be instructive.

So far, my only dining experience was at a coffee shop on the way in - the waitress gave me a hard time because I didn't immediately run to the salad bar when she gave me my plate.

Alex 02-04-2007 08:43 PM

12-hour cold chow fun is much better than a 12-hour-old manapua, let me assure you.

I was going to recommend you walk by the Natatorium since you're in Waikiki but I forgot that is/was a WWI memorial, not WWII.

innerSpaceman 02-04-2007 08:59 PM

This is actually a pleasant surprise, as I'm seeing this on a listening break between the Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros segments on the current mousepod.

Doubly nice, then, to picture Jesse in the tropics.  :iSm:

CrazyLegs 02-04-2007 09:52 PM

I wish I was in HI :) Thanks for sharing

LSPoorEeyorick 02-04-2007 11:51 PM

Lucky punk.

(Though I admit I'd be feeling worse if I hadn't spent the last five hours researching our Italian honeymoon.)

mousepod 02-06-2007 02:43 PM

I came.

I saw.

I ate (sorry, Alex)

Alex 02-06-2007 02:55 PM

Oh, that is so mean.

Did you like it?

In other news I've had a mild craving for malasadas since the other day when I mentioned them talking about Barak Obama. In an hour of cosmic meanness when I was the gym today I spent an hour on an eliptical forced to watch an hour-long Travel Channel show about doughnuts. Of course, a segment was on malasadas. God, even though she doesn't exist, is quite the ass.

mousepod 02-06-2007 02:57 PM

Yeah... it was great.

And we hit Leonard's for malasadas last night.

Yum.

Snowflake 02-06-2007 03:00 PM

Looks very much a like char siu bao to me (I love those)
Never been to any of the islands, have an excuse now, my sister just retired to HI (bitch)

Sounds like your (non-existent) God has PMS. Don't piss her off.

Capt Jack 02-06-2007 04:22 PM

oh that sucks!!! they have those at the 7/11's there????????

unfair! UNFAIR I SAY!

Gemini Cricket 02-06-2007 07:10 PM

Bleh! Manapua from 7-11! Yuck.

You should go to the Cheesecake Factory in Waikiki and say hi to my little sister. She works there. Just ask for a girl named Joe.
:)

And Waikiki can be fun... at night.

Ugh!! This happens to me, too! I like to put on the Travel Channel while I workout on mute and blast my music. Well, why oh why does it have to be when they have food shows on? It KILLS me!!! Especially when I am working out hungry and just getting 'er done so I can eat my dinner.

I've been craving those Mexican deep fried burritos...scoff...whatever they are called. I want one.

mousepod 02-12-2007 11:38 PM

I got back yesterday - what a nice vacation. Other than the usual (food, sun, food, ocean, food...), we did a couple of tourist-y things. One of the coolest was a short submarine trip on a passenger sub to some artificial reefs. Visibility was great - even at around 110 ft down - here's a short video I shot with my handy dandy camera.
