Snickers pulls plug on Super Bowl smooch
CNN

forgive me if I seem out-of-touch, but I thought it was hilarious...ridiculous and kind of stupid in general, but hilarious. frankly I dont see how it promotes or condones violence against....well, ANYONE. am I wrong? comments? |
I saw it briefly. I only saw it on the news that it had been pulled.
Funny, I think it being pulled will give it more attention. |
On the one hand, it wasn't much different from a scene where a guy is embarrassed about liking something ladylike and then tries to overcompensate for that. On the other hand, it did seem to portray gay panic, which has been floated as a defense in various gay bashings, as a legitimate emotion, so I can sort of see where they're coming from.
|
Honestly, I was kinda meh about the commercial's alleged anti-gayness.
|
So, um, where's the YouTube or Google link? Sheesh!

That was lame.

There was another version where the guys started to fight each other after the kiss.
But don't you know? Not liking to kiss other guys is now called "homophobic", no such thing as straight anymore. |
www.afterthekiss.com - the URL that appears after at the end of the ad, redirects to the main Snickers site.
I guess I'm sort of immune to commercials. I just look at them and say - huh? |
To the degree that it is offensive I can really only see it in the fact that the basis on which the humor rests is that any gay-like behavior requires penance.
Of course, considering what it shown, it could also be argued that people who think that way are idiots. Of course squared, the "manly" act they then do as penance is removing chest hair which if anything is also gay-like (to a stereotype of the gay gym rat; you don't really see chest waxing outside of gyms). But I can't really see how it promotes violence against gays. |

....It's only Gay if you kiss. :p |

I had to laugh when the first anti-gay, manly thing the guy could think of was to rip off his shirt. Uh-huh.
The kiss was nothing. When you Lady-and-the-Tramp someone of the same gender with any kind of food .... you are gay long before the lips meet. But yeah, gay panic ... even by imbeciles ... is mildly insulting, and I'm glad the company felt it best not to be associated with the ad. |
Ripping the hair off your chest is manly but shaving the hair off your chest is gay. Remember that, boys.
|
I'd like to go on the record and say I wouldn't want to share a Snickers with either man.
|
Good to know I'm gay, it finally explains my complete lack of sexual interest in men.
I just tried to rip out some chest hair to atone, but it turns out it is really hard unless you only get a couple at a time. |
One thing for sure.....no one came away from seeing that ad wanting to go out and buy a snickers bar.

That would depend on the size of the Snickers.
Are we talkin' King Size, regular size or Halloween bite size. :D |
