Life's too short to........

There are days when I just ned to remember what is important and what is not; What is worth my time and what is a waste of energy; What to be upset about and what to let go of.

Today's list is:
  1. .....control the world. What I control is defined my the small circle I can draw on the ground around my feet and not much more, but what I influence has a broader reach.
  2. ....Be angry. Anger takes a lot of energy and I'd rather be doing something wonderful with that energy.
  3. ....Worry about others' karma. There may be a "karma police" but I'm not on the force and I don't want the job. My evil sister may or may not have "gotten hers" but it's not my job to find out or even care. (See #2)
  4. .....Stay home. Traveling is one of the finest joys in life. Adventure is tantamount to great sex. :))

Please, add you're own "shortisms".

€uroMeinke 02-23-2007 01:46 PM

...spend the afternoon in a building with no windows on such a beautiful day - especially when you've been coming in sick all week.

Alex 02-23-2007 01:54 PM

...to worry about what will kill ultimately kill you at the expense of what you'll enjoy.
...to watch Pauly Shore movies
...to spend 200 years watching a turtle die more slowly than you.

Snowflake 02-23-2007 01:58 PM

to worry about what might happen, you don't know, go with the flow and live

to live a life without music

to not smile and laugh at least 10 times a day, every day is a day to be joyful for

Cadaverous Pallor 02-23-2007 02:05 PM

...to procrastinate. About anything.

Living in that ugly headspace which is deceptively comfortable
covered in cushions and surrounded by corn chips
there's even a dvr and a huge 'net pipe
but the stereo system is always blasting
bass fuzzes out and the tweets hurt your ears
screaming YOU NEED TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH
THE PASTA POT STILL HAS PESTO IN IT
WHEN DID YOU LAST CREATE SOMETHING
OR CALL YOUR LONG LOST BEST FRIEND
WHAT ABOUT THAT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
GET OUTSIDE AND BREATHE

choosing procrastination is a dumb mistake I make every day

I tried to write the preceding as a post but could not. Sometimes verse is the only way out of my head. Thanks for the small spark NA :)

Strangler Lewis 02-23-2007 03:01 PM

I want the last 8 seconds back.

DreadPirateRoberts 02-23-2007 03:20 PM

... tell your kids, "No I can't play with you, I've got to do XYZ"

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 02-23-2007 03:52 PM

... I want to start over.

Life is never too short to start over :)

Alex 02-23-2007 05:08 PM

...to make a conference call go longer simply because of a little earthquake.

(Plus, the all the Seattle people on the call will be really impressed by your calm when you say "hold on, earthquake....ok, it's over let's go on."

Do it! Life is too short to not take care of yourself and make positive changes in your life.

Capt Jack 02-23-2007 06:07 PM

too short to count the days 'till the weekend before having a bit o' fun
too short to live life wondering 'what the hell went wrong?'
too short to drive dull vehicles...slowly
too short to 'wait for that lotto to hit'
too short to not replace all the "I cant" with "holy crap, I cant believe I did"
too short to not have an extensive list of "been there, done that, survived and did it again"

basically,
life is too short (period)

Morrigoon 02-23-2007 06:16 PM

Shouldn't this be in Beatnik? Very cool line of thought.

Life is too short to....

...Say "I can't". Replace with the text "How can I..." and turn it into a question.

...Live in a box. It's okay to have a box to come home to, but you can't fully appreciate your box unless you know what's outside it. (Kevy, get your brain out of the gutter this instant, and back in the sewer where it belongs!)

...Not sing. Like anyone's going to stand over your coffin and say "Oh yeah, so-and-so was a wonderful friend, but homegirl COULD NOT hold a tune!" Who the hell cares? Singing is an expression of joy, and should be done on a regular basis (like "preventing cancer" ;))

thecorndogwalker 02-23-2007 07:03 PM

..... not have to be so judgemental, to myself or anyone else..

.... not be so damn sensitive sometimes..

.... stop wishing that tommorrowland will go back to the way it was...

Gemini Cricket 02-23-2007 07:15 PM

Life's too short to iron your underwear.

Life's too short to ... obsess about being too short. ;)

Alex 02-23-2007 08:08 PM

...to waste time worrying about what happens after it ends.

Ghoulish Delight 02-23-2007 08:43 PM

...to have spent 7 hours pondering this thread and come up with nothing.

lindyhop 02-23-2007 09:52 PM

Life is too short

...to obsess about why people don't do what you want them to do. (Make me stop!)
...to worry about what other people think.
...to spend it with negative people.

Kevy Baby 02-23-2007 10:09 PM

Life is too short to continually carry this big ball of anger that I insist upon not letting go of.

Mousey Girl 02-24-2007 07:49 AM

...to work at a job you hate, no matter what they are paying you.

scaeagles 02-24-2007 07:58 AM

....watch the oscars.

....send your dog on a cruise.

innerSpaceman 02-24-2007 08:22 AM

Life's too short ... to live as if life's too short.

Yeah, it's generally a good thing to realize our time here is finite, and could end at any moment ... and thus to live life to the fullest, and drop all the stuff that doesn't bring ourselves and others pleasure and goodness.

But it's also something of a mistake to fixate too much on life being too short, even as inspiration for all of the above.

Life's not too short. Life is fine, life is good (especially mine, which is just as it should be).

Perhaps a fruit fly's life's too short, or your darling doggie's. But our time on earth is - barring tragedy - good and long ... long enough to accomplish everything we might want, and be everyone we might want to be.

Celebrate life. Live it, baby. But not because it's going to end. Just because it IS.

NickO'Time 02-24-2007 06:06 PM

... too not take your dog for a walk.
...too allow a group of people too affect my destiny
...taking those risks in sporting events that could have made the ending a different story, ("coulda", "shoulda", "woulda") (I know they are not words.)
... too not allow children to learn something that might be of great interest to them

blueerica 03-08-2007 02:15 PM

Shame I missed this one. Must've been in Utah.

Life's too short...

... to obsess over what I can't change.
... to forget what I do have an impact on.
... to worry about how someone pre-salted and pre-peppered the remainder of the cottage cheese
... to be irritated at the seemingly non-stop construction on the other side of the fence.
... to put off being healthy.
... to shy away from it.

Ponine 03-08-2007 04:03 PM

Life's too short to...

.....Not tell someone how much they mean to you.
.....Take fro granted the little things.
.....Not eat the things you like.
.....Forget.
.....Waste time yelling, when you can use the same time to make-up.
.....Be bored often.
