I need help with tonight's MousePod
 

Right after I finished the Disney Goes to War episode, I came across a guy who has devoted more than 2 decades researching Disney during WWII. I interviewed him, and the interview will be on tonight's show.

In a similar vein, after posting the Disney Oscars show, I found a copy of the elusive "It's Tough to Be a Bird" short that none of us got a chance to see.

I'd love to record a mini "round table" tonight for inclusion on this "loose ends" show.

If you want to participate, here's all you have to do:

- Watch the short (it's a new encode, which should work for everybody).
- Contact me (PM is fine) with a phone number and time tonight that we can talk - for less than five minutes.

Remember, the short is 21 minutes long, so give yourself ample time to watch it.

Hmmm .. actually, I have nothing to say about that short. Except for the last 3 minutes of Gilliamesque fauxnimation, it was really quite the snoozer.

Isn't that funny? I just watched it and thought it was totally charming and one of the better educational shorts I'd seen in years.

Must mean at 46 I'm regressing to 11, probably so.

I'd have to agree with :iSm: on this one, the Gilliamesque portion was the best part. I did like the Ward cameo, and the Herbie sound effect that was slipped in. It was fun to see the late 60's hairstyles and cars. My 5 year old son did enjoy it enough to come over and watch it instead of Harry Potter.

Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean you have to say nothing. I'm not Thumper's dad.

Thanks for the feedback, at least. I will be sure to mention that several of the people who watched it were less than excited by it. We are here to bury ITTBAB, not to praise it (or something like that).

Hmm, now that you aren't getting responses I feel bad. But, like iSm, I didn't not enjoy it, it but didn't really have any sort of strong enough reaction to it to come up with anything to say other than the easy route of mentioning the cut-out animation.

You'll get a response from us tomorrow. I like it so far, but I'm old and young all at once.

That's OK, GD. I actually have 5 (count 'em) LoT contributions, not counting €uro and NA. Plenty to put together a segment. I'm going to finish the show in the morning, and I'm going to be sure to mention the "meh" that many have given it (in the proper context, of course).

I too found it to be a bit of a snoozefest. But it was interesting to watch all the old styles. And now I want to go to Hinkley Ridge, Ohio to see if they still have Buzzard Sunday.

How funny, I didn't care much at all for Toot, Whistle, Plunk & Boom - yet I was far more enamored with the nuances in ITTBAB. Cats in the middle of bird montages, goofy 60s styling, a political and environmental message, plus the Python-esque animation - I couldn't resist getting a kick out of it.

If anything, what made the viewing hard to do (and it felt like it went ooonnnnn at points) was that it was so spawling and in segments. It felt like... I dunno, 5 short films smashed into one. I wonder what they were up against in 1969 to have actually won with this. (I'll have to check that out.)

That segmented quality you mention strikes me as well. I have to wonder if this wasn't actually in production with the TV show in mind, and the decision to send it out to theaters perhaps happened along the way. (It has very TV-esque fade-outs, as if commercials were a given.)
