Now this cracks me up

Being in the patent world in which with CH you get LI as a bonus, this little military snafu cracks me up.

Morrigoon 03-02-2007 01:59 PM

Wow, I'm totally lost in your acronyms. But the story is amusing.

Brigitte 03-02-2007 02:43 PM

Glad I'm not the only one. I laughed at the story but am puzzled by the CH and LI :)

Prudence 03-02-2007 02:49 PM

CH is an abbreviation for Switzerland, that much I know.

Morrigoon 03-02-2007 02:51 PM

Ah, then LI must be Lichtenstein. Makes sense. Still don't see the relationship to patents, but at least the pieces are falling into place :)

Brigitte 03-02-2007 02:53 PM

LI for Lichtenstein I can see, CH for Switzerland? Where'd that come from?

I'm guessing Swiss (err, German).

Heh, nope. Latin. "Confoederatio Helvetica", used because there are 4 official languages so instead of choosing one of those, they went with Latin. Thanks, Wikipedia!

More guessing: One would presume when dealing with international patent law, different countries have their own patent departments and legalities to deal with. Judging from Snowflake's post, Switzerland and Lichtenshtein have some sort of deal where applying through one gives you a legal patent in both.

Snowflake 03-02-2007 03:27 PM

Okay, the patent connection is when you file a patent application in Switzerland, an application in Liechtenstein is tossed in for free. So it's like Order #2 and you get an eggroll.

On their way home, did they stop in Grand Fenwick for a few glasses of wine?

Capt Jack 03-02-2007 04:28 PM

another story from that page, equally crack up inducing (to me at least.)

Cadaverous Pallor 03-02-2007 11:42 PM

The LoT should invade Lichtenstein

Monaco might be a swankier choice, or the Vatican for some real plunder

How about the Most Serene Republic of San Marino? They have no military to oppose us, and a nice Mediterranean climate.

We can defeat 28,117 people, right? Or at least make friends with enough of them to take over the gov't.
