It's the most wonderful time of the year
Yep, it's March Madness, baby! It will certainly be tough to match the greatness of the tournament last year, the best in my memory.
My final four? I've got Oregon upsetting Florida (who I see as overrated) to get there, UCLA, UNC, and Ohio St. UNC will make Oden look like the freshman he is and progress to the final. UCLA will beat Oregon is a close one, with UNC claiming it all. Picks? Predictions? One good thing of working in an office again is a larger pool of people for a...well... pool. LET THE GAMES BEING!!!!!!!!!! |
I predict.....Gonzaga will not win.
|
GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!

You know what March Madness means?
About two weeks to baseball. |
Thanks for the buzz kill, Alex.

Go Stanford!
|
My Final Four has UCLA over Florida (I almost went with Oregon) and Memphis over Georgetown. Championship is UCLA over Memphis.
Ohio St. will expose themselves as overrated dookie. |
Relatively uneventful first day thus far, with the notable exception of Duke's first loss in the first round EVER! Holy freakin' cow.
|
Didn't get to catch it today, and I might take a big lunch break if I can find a sports bar nearby to watch my 49ers play. Go LONG BEACH!
;) No, I don't expect them to take home the championship, but I'd love to see them go far and get some recognition for an outstanding year! |
WSU Cougs won today- yeah!
|
I am 14/16 in my pool after the first day - nice indeed. However, I made the worst pick of the day.....I had GW over Vandy. Vandy won by 33.
Oops. (didn't have VCU over Duke either, but that's understandable) |
Duke losing is a definite boon for UCLA. Sweet.
|
I also went 14-2 yesterday. But unlike Coach L, I had VCU and Vandy. For some reason i went with ODU over Butler.
And Gonzaga. <--that's for you, wendybeth Quote:

Since Tennessee scored 121 FREAKIN' POINTS I'd say you hit the percentages, Sac.
|
I didn't really hold out much hope for the Zags this year, so their loss was no surprise. Of course, the Cougs took some of the edge off that one.:D
|
I'm sad for Long Beach today - I hope they can continue their fine basketball program into next season. And after all I'd heard about the 12th seed being the magic number. Oh, woe is Long Beach!
|
The Ducks won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh wait. Wrong sport. :p |
![]() Enough said. |
^Ditto that!
|
The WSU/Vanderbilt game was brutal. The Cougs lost, but it was most certainly not an easy win for their opponents.
|
Blah, I'm sure the Cougars are great, and they didn't beat me up a decade ago when I sat shoulder to shoulder with them at the 1998 Rose Bowl when they went against the Wolverines, but I can't shake the feeling of being boo'd for wearing UofM colors in the general admission seats.
I figured since I was attending the Rose Bowl alone (my HS buddies were in the student section) I would be at least not boo'd... but that wasn't the case, and it happened three times throughout the game. I am still mad that fans singled me out. I smiled and laughed, but have secretly (though not so much today) hated them ever since. I'm glad they lost. Go Vandy and go SEC! (To be noted, on that incident alone, I care for WSU about as much as I do the Buckeyes. Michiganders will know - Ohio must be DEFEATED!) |
Woo-hoo! I have 7 of the 8 remaining correct and all 4 final four teams alive. My only miss was Texas A&M over Memphis, and that was a close one (A&M gacked and chould have won.....how many offensive rebounds did they give on that last sequence????). That being said....
Georgetown didn't deserve to win, with a pretty obvious travel before the last shot, and I think Ohio State should have been out two games ago and that Oden was given special treatment twice - once against Xavier, when he committed what O thought was an obvious intentional foul at the end which was not called as such (shoved the guy 6 feet OB), and the next vs Tennessee, when with two minutes left he was allowed to come back in with blood on his jersey (quite a bit of it) after being told to leave and get a different jersey, which he couldn't find. UNC showed why I picked them to win it all. They are so deep they looked like they had just started the game while USC could hardly get up and down the court anymore. |
Boy am I glad I don't work at Wells any more. The guy next to me, who was a dick at the best of times, was one of those people who ten years after they finish college still define themselves by it.
In a department of 200 people he was the only one where I knew their college. And when he found out I went to a different Pac-10 school everything immediately became a competition. I didn't care about college sports when I was in college (it helped that Washington won their football co-championship the year before I got there and then spent my term embroiled in a violations controversy), I certainly don't care about them now, and didn't really think losing or winning business requirement battles with him would somehow reflect upon an inter-conference rivalry. I imagine he is pretty insufferable right about now. |
