Hi all !

We're here in sunny downtown anaheim - we've just activated our cellphone and the number is (714) 718 6394

It should be able to take calls about 5:30 - 6:00pm

We're headed to Downtown Disney (of course) - anyone wanna join us for drinkies / dinner ??

Just look for the guy wearing the "Lashbear" Cap... (No, seriously!) or call us on that cellphone.

We're also looking for stuff to do tomorrow up until 6:30pm so if you're free - give us a call. We have Vegemite. :D

Cheers,
Rob & Greg

Ponine 03-15-2007 04:55 PM

Wish I were closer! Have a great time.
Greg sounds chipper, hope you are too!!!

See you in a few weeks!

Nephythys 03-15-2007 05:01 PM

Bravo! I'm glad the cell phone idea worked out for you. I hope you are having the level of fun you will need photos of to remember what happened. ;)

katiesue 03-15-2007 06:14 PM

Glad you made it - wish I were closer as well.

Snowflake 03-15-2007 06:28 PM

Yay!

W-E-L-C-O-M-E!!

:( wish I were there, I'd definitely be joining you.

~MS~ 03-15-2007 07:18 PM

Oh wow, our favorite Bear in the hood! counting down til next weekend! Huggs!

wendybeth 03-15-2007 07:26 PM

Glad you made it safe and sound! Now, don't you all go hogging up all the Vegemite.....

flippyshark 03-15-2007 07:32 PM

Yea, save some Vegemite for us Floridians.

wendybeth 03-15-2007 07:41 PM

I just picked up some local huckleberry wine tonight- hopefully it gets down there unbroken. (There's a good chance Eric might drink it first as well).

blueerica 03-15-2007 08:23 PM

I am soooo bad with these things - how long are you here until, Lash? In town for a few days before you move along? Since I'll be gone the first week of April (yeah, I'm gone after all...) I'd love to try and meet up with you, even if it's for a short bit, perhaps tomorrow morning for a quick breakfast before I go to work (I run on my own schedule... so I'm not talking early or anything...)

innerSpaceman 03-15-2007 09:12 PM

Arggh, if I weren't pet sitting, I would totally have joined you for drinkies ... even on a school nite.

Morrigoon 03-15-2007 10:02 PM

Damn, if I'd only discovered this thread earlier in the evening! :(

RStar 03-15-2007 10:39 PM

Welcome to Sunny Southern California Rob!! :snap:

I won't be able to get away right now, but plan to see you in a couple of weeks! Have a great time here, and in Florida as well!

Talk to you later!

~Bob

Ghoulish Delight 03-15-2007 10:58 PM

Woohoo! We win! We saw them first!

We had a wonderful dinner and some drinks. And we learned that not only are Lash Stoat and myself both Gregs, we have the same middle name (making him the second person I've met with the same first and middle name as me)!

Erica, they will be around for much of the day tomorrow, then they're off to Florida for a bit, but they'll be back here in a couple of weeks and be around for a good chunk of time. I for one am looking forward to them getting back.

blueerica 03-16-2007 12:36 AM

I will have to revisit their schedule!

Lash Peoples!! If you get this message, I'm going to bed - but let me know if you're up for a bit of hello-action tomorrow morning. I'll check once I manage to wake up.

I'll PM you my cell phone number. Feel free to call and I'll try to not freak out when it rings next to my head.

Both Bear and Stoat are awesome to hang out with! We had a fantastic time. I think LashStoat was relieved that we were cool ;)

Can't wait to see them again!

Oh, and they finally replaced the carpet at the Grand Cal. Awesomeness.

innerSpaceman 03-16-2007 08:21 AM

Um, that tile/carpet combo (which greatly reduced the amount of carpeted space) has been there for 6 months. Clearly we have neglected the old A.P. Lounge if some of our best swankers hadn't noticed.

Well, recent events (largely yet unknown around these parts) have put the Jazz Kitchen off the menu, so to speak. The Grand Cal may once again find itself with moved furniture and other swanky happy hour results.

MouseWife 03-16-2007 08:31 AM

Doh! We almost went to DTD last night on our way home from Yosemite. I didn't have internet to check up on things but I thought maybe....

Instead we went to Native Foods for dinner. {that was the swinging vote, my daughter was treating and wanted a meal after eating out of the cooler for days on the trip....not much Vegan in the Valley...}.

Drats. Well, I am checking things out....working things out....

Nice pictures, CP. :snap:

{darn, and you know I'd have checked out the GC lobby...I always do...}

~MS~ 03-16-2007 09:03 AM

~MS~ 03-16-2007 10:01 AM

LOL...a mission ;) gotcha! I can't wait til they see the cool Fez that are sitting here waiting to be presented, Helen can't be here but she sent a bit of Wisconsin out to them via Missy and me....the pics should be totally Swank!

Can't wait to see you guys

blueerica 03-16-2007 10:16 AM

Um, maybe if someone actually posted something about it, we'd know.

We haven't been there in a while, that's for sure, but only because things get dull if you do the same things over and over and over and over. We figured dinner at Uva and another drink or two at the official AP Lounge was the right way to welcome our jet-lagged Aussie friends. We were right. :)

lashbear 03-16-2007 07:04 PM

BIG thanks to CP & GD - we had a BLAST !!!!

Lovethe truffle oil on the UVA fries. :D Thos Sidecars at the Grand Californian went down real well

We're off for Floridia now - we'll try and call Matterhornfan when there, and Flippyshark - we need your contact number too !

See you all when we get back to Anaheim next weekend.

Hugs,
Rob & Greg

flippyshark 03-18-2007 08:40 PM

Matterhorn Fan and I met up with the Stoat and Bear this morning at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I am now enjoying some Vegemite on RyKrisp crackers. (Spread very thin, it's not so bad.) My cat has tried Vegemite, and appears to like it.

flippyshark 03-18-2007 08:51 PM

I didn't feed it to her, she just leapt on my lap and started in on it. She seems to really dig it. The only other human food I've seen her go for is yogurt. Go figure.

I've moved the vegemite away from her, and she's now meowing for it.

wendybeth 03-18-2007 09:13 PM

If she starts meowing with an Aussie accent, then it's time to start worrying.

I'm glad they made it there alright, and happy to see the East Coasters get some quality Lash time!

flippyshark 03-18-2007 09:35 PM

My time with them was short in duration (I had to go to work after just a couple of all-too-brief hours) but long on fun. I hope to spend more time, maybe on Wednesday if that works for them. I'm sadly overbooked for the next couple of days.

We too were charmed by them in just a few hours and can't wait until they return to our fair coast.

Matterhorn Fan 03-19-2007 02:59 PM

You may have gotten the first meet, but we got the first RIDE!

Unlike flippy, I didn't have to go to work yesterday. Eleven hours, three parks, one Dream Cast encounter, one blister on the side of my left foot, and one lobster-like sunburn (mine, hopefully lashbear's isn't as bad)later, and I'm beat.

Nephythys 03-19-2007 03:46 PM

I am DYING to get to next Friday!!!! Can't wait to join the fun!

I'm thinking about a trip down under in four or five years....

lashbear 03-20-2007 09:03 PM

Yesterday with Matterhorn Fan & Flippyshark was just the best day I've had at a theme park for years. We went on my First ride of the trip (Expedition Everest) and I got off the ride shaking from excitement !!! What a marvellous triumph of imagineering that one is !

The rest of the day became a whirlwind - we went on Dinosaur! and Primeval Hurl (where my body-weight gave MF an extra-spinny ride). Then on to EPCOT for some Nemo excitement, and then....

Then....... Beverly my Beverly, how I love you my sweet Beverly...... I was in Bev-heaven. :D  I'm working out how to get a hidden 5 quart backpack connected via tube concealed in my sleeve down to a tiny cup in my hand..... a few hours of button pressing and I'd be made. Either that, or emigrate to Italy.

After that, we planned to see a really cool show in the Imagination pavilion, just after the Figment ride...

Stoat, MF & I were on the way into the pavilion, when we were stopped by the Dream Team just inside the entrance and given Year Of A Thousand Dreams Pin Lanyards. They have two exclusive pins on them, and we were just chuffed out of our skins to get them. See - wishes really DO come true !!!!! The ride and the show after were really good and lots of fun. I love science.

We then ran MF around World Showcase, then (forgetting Mission Space & Soarin' were there.... Oops) we went over to MGM for some original HTH action and some Rockn Rollercoaster starring Aerosmith (I really did know the name of the band,..... really...) and NOT the Red Hot Capsicums or whatever they're called.

I ould have gone on until 11:00 pm but we had to let MF go, as I tend to forget that other people have to work when I'm on Holidays.... call it vacation adrenaline or whatever you like, but I'm off and away, and I usually even forget to eat (which I pay for by getting sudden hypo's. We're remembering to make me eat regularly now, and I'm getting into more of a routine.

Then, after a long nights sleep we met HTHBellcaptain today ! What an amazing guy - we got a fantastic tour of the tower and had all of our questions (sorry there were so many) that we ever dared to ask answered - It was our own little Dream Come True™ :o) I can't thank him enough, but I feel we might have to drop some Vegemite in for him tomorrow......

Tomorrow we will probably be going to MGM, EPCOT and Magic Kingdom again (maybe not in that order - Park Closing at Magic Kingdom is a little hectic getting to your car - thanks for the heads up, MF)

Photos coming soon. :D

Cheers,
Rob.

Does that mean you experienced the multi-hour wait for the monorail? Or the cattle call of the ferryboat at night? Or are you just bracing yourself?

Best advice--leave the park before Wishes, and watch the fireworks from the ferry dock area at the TTC. Music and everything. I should have told you that on Sunday, but the sun must have deleted that tip from my brain.

What's with the cradling the Wonder-style bread? True, Florida's a bread wasteland compared to Northern California (a spoiled, bread snob, that's me), but surely the supermarkets of Florida have something better?

Oh, and Flippyshark's been trying to call you. Answer your cell phone.

Your tour includes kaki gori. I haven't forgotten. Get out here, will ya?

Cadaverous Pallor 03-21-2007 07:00 PM

Visible mojo for MF - we'll hold you to it someday.

I forgot to mention the best quote of our evening with the Lashs. We brought up scaeagles at one point. That's when Bear turned to Stoat and said in his exquisite Aussie accent, "That's Leo - with the ham for a butt."

Yeah, I wrote it down. :D

lashbear 03-21-2007 08:06 PM

Hectic day at Animal Kingdom again, then EPCOT today. I lost my Park ticket :( . Didn't discover this fact until we got into the hotel room tonight.

The lady at the hotel front desk here assures me that Disney's really good about this sort of thing and I should get a replacement no prob - after all, they've got my fingerprint against the ticket.

Fingers crossed.

The GOOD news is, we're going to Boma on Friday night with Flippyshark & MF, and maybe HTHBellcaptain ! :D

Not Afraid 03-21-2007 10:26 PM

I have further info about that. Some time ago, they got a new pastry chef at Boma, and from what I've heard, she's decided to do things her way regardless of the famousness of some of the Boma desserts. That's why the zebra domes recipe has changed, the pineapple cheesecake is gone, etc.

I want the old zebra domes back. The new desserts at Boma are terribly unswanky. It's a good thing the rest of the food is to die for, the restaurant is beautiful, and it's in the AKL, or we'd be looking for a new restaurant to replace Boma as THE place to go for a Florida dinner meet.

I can't wait for dinner tomorrow. :)

Matterhorn Fan 03-24-2007 04:02 PM

Mmmm....Boma....

The food was good. They had butternut squash soup, black-eyed peas, the roasted veggies were cooked perfectly, and the waitress is right, fufu is delicious. Everything was good up to the dessert pod.

There were so many things wrong with the desserts...shall we begin with Chai Tea Rice Pudding?

I think not.

The desserts were not good, but in a way, that makes Boma better (for our health). The fresh fruit we all had for dessert was wonderful.

The giraffes were closer to the buildings than I've ever seen them, nightvision was still available after our dinner, and AKL's a nice place to walk off a meal.

Stan4dSteph 03-25-2007 08:14 AM

Glad the dinner was good even without dessert. Perhaps a letter is in order regarding the bread pudding? I should have taken a picture. Here's evidence of the new gross zebra domes...

thecorndogwalker 03-25-2007 08:15 AM

Anyone going to be at DL or DCU today? And if so what time??? thinking of driving down for a bit.....

The bread pudding is still a mass of hardness, but they're now cutting it in squares before putting it out (then putting the whole dish out with a giant spoon. It's still not good). I've been to Boma twice since your trip, and I've never seen more than about 1/4 of the dish gone. Surely they know? Uneaten or half-eaten food going back to the kitchen to be trashed probably speaks most loudly.

The "new" zebra domes are made with Bailey's instead of Kahlua. Friday they had a sickeningly sweet caramelly taste. The presentation is still pretty sloppy.

The caption on your photo is kind. ;)

MouseWife 03-25-2007 11:25 AM

Well that sucks if they used the new Baileys' with caramel. {I've seen they now have 3 flavors? Is this right? I only saw one commercial.....like the coffee creamers, I guess.} I am sure it is not too bad if you want to try it. But, changing up recipes with it?

Matterhorn Fan 03-25-2007 11:34 AM

I don't know. I was told by a very kind waiter that the pastry chef had swapped the Kahlua for Bailey's. I know nothing about flavored Bailey's, but the zebra domes did have a caramelly taste. Whether it changes from night to night I can't say (I don't get to go to Boma quite that often!).

MouseWife 03-25-2007 11:41 AM

Oh, I tried but couldn't find the site with the new flavors. But, yep, they have a new selection with caramel. I know caramel is yummy in coffee so probably is why they made this one.

That would definitely throw some people if they heard Baileys' flavoring and expected the original.

...we had a little left over on the plate...

flippyshark 03-27-2007 06:42 AM

Ugh, yes, the Chai Tea Rice Pudding was the ghastliest thing ever. I like chai tea, I like rice, I like pudding, but, the combination made this a stranger and more horrible world.

If you're from India, yes. If you're in Starbucks, I guess the answer is no!

For the record, I love chai (Pasand in the Bay Area makes great chai), chai rice pudding, hmmm, not appealing at the moment!

Matterhorn Fan 03-28-2007 02:26 PM

Lashbear, you forgot the zebra dome exclamation point.
