Not a good day for Eddie Griffin

This may not have the intrigue of the Stefan Eriksson Ferrari crash, but it does have video. Comedian Eddie Griffin, driving in a charity event at Irwindale Speedway, lost control and totaled a $1.5 million Enzo. Oops.

Yeah...I saw a clip of it on Entertainment Tonight.

I'd sure hate to be the OWNER of that car!

I'd had to be the INSURER. They don't make those anymore. Everybody who owns one just saw their value go up.

On the bright side, Eddie Griffin finally made me laugh.

I don't know who Eddie Griffin is, but "brother can't drive" is sure to end up being quoted over and over again.

Yeah, and I was hearing someone talk about the value going up considerably.

I talked to a friend of mine, and he said that if the damage is significant, Ferrari won't sell them any repair parts. The front end is all carbon fiber. If it was able to be repaired, the history would follow the vehicle and significantly reduce any resale value (it's a small car world after all).

Ghoulish Delight 03-28-2007 08:37 AM

According to the article I read the owner has already said it's totaled.

From today's paper:

Quote:

The Web site TMZ.com suggested the whole thing might be a marketing ploy, noting that footage shows a man who is standing nearby doesn't flinch as the car hits a concrete barrier. "It's pretty interesting," TMZ adds, "that after the crash Griffin joked it up."

Ghoulish Delight 03-28-2007 11:33 AM

I noticed the guy standing behind the barrier as well. It's possible, but it also looks like he might have a camera. It's pretty easy to become kinda disconnected with what you're seeing through a camera's viewfinder and not really react until it's right on top of you (it looks like he does kinda jump once the car actually hits the barrier).

Prudence 03-28-2007 11:51 AM

Unless he was positioned there to catch the crash?

thecorndogwalker 03-28-2007 11:59 AM

see what happens when you reach down and grab your 40 ounce when your driving... shucks!

Capt Jack 03-28-2007 12:20 PM

if it was indeed staged...to a car guy, thats like slashing a priceless painting for a laugh.
I hope the owner is able to get compensated for it, although I cant imagine how. I still want to know what dufus thought it was a good idea to put an unskilled driver behind the wheel of a (highly twitchy) work of art.

Ahh... I didn't mean to make it sound like I was talking about the value of the totaled Enzo going up. I meant the remaining Ferrari Enzos in the world - their values just jumped by the tens of thousands. Isn't it something like 397 left? I can't remember now...

I agree, the value of the remaining uncrashed Enzos has increased.
