So here I am...

Okay, I was googling for a Fantasmic! ring tone for my new phone, and that led me to MousePad. I got to reminiscing and grew nostalgic for the old days or the small, intimate community of yore.

Long story short, with a little poking around I ended up here.

Good to see you all! Greetings from the Oregon Zoo!

So, what has everybody been up to?

see you at the zoo

Great ghosts of the north west! Welcome, how goes the zoo biz? Have you heartlessly saved any endangered animals that should have died because their mother rejected them lately?

HooBoy, I'm glad I skipped over you in my most recent purge

(we get a lot of spam bots registering, and I usually delete them all in mass, but your email looked like it might actually be legit - thank goodness your birthday isn't March 28, 1983 or you would have gotten the rejection letter)

Cheers, and welcome back!

Welcome Ron.....I have'nt forgotten you. To this day, whenever I am passing the Oregon Zoo exit going down Hwy 26, I still silently add a "Ron" after the word zoo:)

lashbear 03-29-2007 10:57 PM

OMG !! Hello again !! :D

Glad you found us.

Jazzman 03-30-2007 01:09 AM

Hey man, I remember you! I always thought it was totally cool that you had the Railroad featured in your AV. The train is my favorite part of the zoo! (The animals are pretty sweet too.) Welcome back!

Great minds, Kevy Baby. :snap: Now let me just apply my Tangerine Dream lipstick. Okay, good. Ready?

Mwah, Oregon Zoo Ron!

RStar 03-30-2007 07:14 AM

Hey Ron! Good to see you again!

It took me a while after the Great Western Migration took place to catch up with them here also. But this place is swanking compared to the old homestead. Just can't beat the company here, though I still pop in to MP once in a while!

Kevy Baby 03-30-2007 07:25 AM

So, what... we only get the one post Ron?!? Or are you still working your way through the "Soooo...." thread?

ozron 03-30-2007 12:49 PM

Okay, so I picked the worst week to come back. It's Spring Break and we've seen between 7,000 and 10,000 people through the gates every day! I've gotten home wiped all week. Then, of course, my parents breeze into town. Computer time suffers.

Still poking through the forums to see what to catch up on and what not to bother with.

Since you last heard from me:

Moved to hip new address - Stumptown; smack between the Pearl and Nob Hill (that ought to confuse non-Portlanders!)

Did some great theatre: "My Fair Lady", "Man of La Mancha", "Ragtime", "Ghosts of Celilo", and a hilarious ongoing dinner show, "Who Stole My Dead Husband?"

Saw my daughter move out of her mom's and into her own tiny little place, have some employment challenges, and generally begin the transition into adulthood. She turned 20 on Sunday.

Finally re-entered the dating world, with mixed results. Had a four-month relationship with a woman who turned out to be a recovering meth addict with poorly managed bipolar disorder. Back into the shell.

Saw (well, didn't actually see) my 42-year-old ex-wife marry a 21-year-old from Australia who she met online when he was 13 (and we were still married).

I'm having a minor surgical procedure a week from Monday. I'll be home recovering for two weeks. I'm sure I'll do a lot of catching up then.

see you at the zoo

Wow! Sounds like you really could put your feet up and have a snort of something.

Dinner theater sounds fun and I, for one, am looking forward to learning more about that dinner murder when you have time.

Good luck with the surgery next week, Oz

Oh how cool! My wife and I sneak down around the Pearl area whenever we can. She loves the shopping and I love the restaruants. It's definitely a cool part of town.

Moonliner 03-30-2007 06:02 PM

Wow, how freaky is that.

What could this group possibly use more than a good Zookeeper! :D

Welcome.

I've been subbing for another actor on and off for the past year in "Who Stole My Dead Husband?" I'm hoping to rejoin the show around the end of April. I'll tell all about it when it's confirmed.

I love the centralized location, and it's a great area for walking. I'm right between the streetcar lines and it's great not even needing a car! I haven't had one for 7 years now, and I only rarely miss it!

I can't afford the shopping or the restaurants very often, but it's fun to watch those who can!

RStar 03-30-2007 09:44 PM

Wow Ron! Sounds like you've been busy!

I hope all goes well with you, and your daughter.

And your ex, raising a new husband.

I hear you there. We window shop more than anything, unless something unique happens to catch her eye. I'm always wanting to hop back on the streetcar and mosey up to 23rd for some New York pizza. Man I love that place.

wendybeth 03-31-2007 12:31 AM

It really is good to see you again, Ron- when I saw the 'Ozron' in the new members list, I didn't associate it with your former nom de plume.

I also have to say that my life is really quite boring in comparison.

What color are those street cars;)?

That is what I thought, too!

So glad to see you around! I remember you definitely for sure from MP.

Thank you for posting about your daughter because I was going to ask. When I saw your post she was the first thing that came to mind. I remember reading about the fun trip you both took to Disneyland some years back.

Wow, what a lot you have gone through! And a bit more to come {best with the surgery, just don't let the zoo vets do it, okay?}

Isn't it exciting and scary at the same time our kids growing up? My chickie is 21 and recently married! They live with us as rents in San Diego are astronomical and we'd like them to save to buy a house...not here, up in OR/WA somewhere.

Welcome!

tracilicious 04-02-2007 05:07 PM

Welcome Ron! Just in time. I'll be in Portland in two and half weeks! Got any tips?

ozron 04-02-2007 10:29 PM

That puts you in town the middle of April, right?

Ah, Portland in the spring! One of my four favorite seasons in this city.

You're a little early for roses, but they'll be some buds at the Rose Gardens. It's beautiful there anyway. The Japanese Gardens and the Classical Chinese Gardens are always gorgeous!

You must do Saturday Market. If you're in a position to take advantage of freshness, there's a farmer's market Wednesdays in the Park Blocks and Thursdays in the Pearl.

Walk Waterfront Park. If you're particularly energetic, walk Waterfront Park, cross the Steel Bridge and walk the Eastside Esplanade - great views of the city. Or start at the marina and rent bikes and do the loop.

Pick up Tri-Met's guide to art on the West Side Light Rail line. Take the train to Hillsboro and ride back to Portland, examining the art installations at each stop. (This is a great half-day activity)

OMSI has a great exhibit on the Amazon going right now.

Oh, yeah.... COME TO THE ZOO! We just opened Black Bear Ridge.

I may be back at "Who Stole My Dead Husband?" Even if I'm not, it's a lot of fun.

That's off the top of my head.

God, I love this town!

Yep! We'll be in Corvallis for the NW Unschooling Conference from the 19-23. Then Portland from the 24-28th.

We definitely want to do all those things. I'm not huge on the Rose Gardens but I know Indi (who's four) will love it.

We are doing the Saturday Market, I didn't know about the others, thanks! Our hotel has a full kitchen, so that should be doable!

Thanks! I'm so excited to go. I hear nothing but fantastic things about Portland. I have a thread around here somewhere about my trip.
