Cute animal photos

Okay, I'll start off with Bert, the black-footed ferret.

"Bert, a male black-footed ferret peers out from a burrow in a cage at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Black-footed Ferret Conservation Center in Wellington, Colorado April 11, 2007. By 1980 it was believed that the black-footed ferret was extinct when a group of only 18 was discovered in Wyoming. With breeding taking place at the Conservation Center, the wild population is now around 500. REUTERS/Rick Wilking"

Okay, probably cute only to me, Tango, in her infinite wisdom, prefers to hang on the top of the cat thing, on the short side (it's rectangular) with her butt hanging off the short edge.

Silly cat.

Yes, pretty much. She is a silly cat, no argument there! But not so silly that I'm not perfectly trained to spoil her rotten.

And because no string of "cute animal pictures" posts from me would be complete without them, the obligatory Barnum photos:

Barnum is pretty cute as well- he's got soulful eyes.

flippyshark 05-18-2007 07:48 PM

It looks like you've got a Maine Coone kitten there, perhaps? I've got one of my own, Tsunami. (Six years old, 20 pounds of love) As you can see, he's also a towering intellect.

Disneykat 05-18-2007 08:24 PM

I think Rooney is part Maine Coon, but he's not as fluffy as your average Maine Coon and he was rescued when he was a wee one. but he's only 1 month older than Pele and just HUGE!!!

Munchkin loves to shove our feet if they're dangling off the couch. It seems to be a combination of "Get the hell out of my way...but pay attention to me while you do so."

Kevy Baby 02-21-2008 05:50 PM

We have one of our cats that if either Susan or I have our arms crossed, that she will head butt our arms until we uncross them.

blueerica 02-21-2008 05:52 PM

I'm pretty lucky that he seems to be head butting in a loving way, accompanied with purrs and "kneading."

I think I may have to go snuggle with him right now.

All I have are a few rats, 3 of which have developed an annoying habit of nipping at my elbow if I am not petting them enough. I blame Baby Smurfles (AKA Bitey Smurf). She has taught the 2 youngest all sorts of bad things, including how to be a paranoid schizo.

On a sad side, our oldest, Squiggles, the last of the April Fool's babies, died. She would have been 3 on 04/01/08. Now we have 2 others with tumors. Sweetness has one in a mammary gland near a hind leg and Hollywog's is behind a front arm.

Are Designer Breeds Going to Far?

In the quest to fulfill the ever increasing demand for more exotic designer dog breeds, some puppy mills have decided to take things into the inter-species realm. By mating a dingo with a wild goose, breeders are hoping to create the worlds best watchdog. If results are as expected, the puppies will be meaner than your average junkyard dog. Michael Vick is said to be behind this latest experiment.

My friend's pugs won first place float at the Haute Dog Easter parade and their photo is not on Cute Overload.

This is Mochi and Olive.

NOW. The word I was trying to type was NOW. :sigh:

As for being shot, it was a COSTUME parade. Dogs were supposed to dress up. Thurston wore a green scarf with a felt carrot on it. Not really a costume, but I wasn't in the mood to go all out nor did I participate in the parade.

Shot 2:

Thurston in small Eames chair holding a cognac and chewing on a bully stick.

This is a pug with a bully stick.

CP & GD: beware of #2

Capt Jack 05-07-2008 10:30 AM

omg, can (#2) be real?

thats frightening

Ghoulish Delight 05-07-2008 10:59 AM

Yep, it's real. They're bred for food, and they were used on Teletubbies since the costumes were so huge the rabbits looked normal-sized.

A breeding pair was sent to North Korea to perhaps help them with their food shortage. Kim Jong Il ate them at his birthday party.

That is pretty normal for a squirrel to do. They go foraging for acorns and other nuts, and collect them in their cheek to bring back to their lair - usually for storage for later consumption.

Ponine 05-07-2008 03:13 PM

I have seriously thought about (and I know Susan would go for it in a heartbeat), but we seriously don't have the space. We took in another cat (four now) and that fourth cat doesn't like other cats, so she gets locked in the office. It just wouldn't be fair to either the cats or the pug (not to mention Susan and I) to bring one in.

Well, that and the fact that we aren't supposed to have any more than two cats per our lease

It was rescued as an unweaned kitten from a gas station parking lot by one of Lani's coworkers.

Here's what she grew up into (still not quite up to full adult size and her overcoat has come in darker minimizing the striping):

Kitty vs. Printer

Andrew 11-20-2008 05:03 PM

On the marina in Cabo there was this booth where, for a $20 donation, you could have your picture taken with a lion cub. I didn't hesitate for one single second. Apparently the money goes to build a sanctuary for lions.

In London we were in an Underground station (though this station was not underground) that was the beginning of the line for one train. It was sitting there, nearly empty, with its doors open waiting to depart for several minutes. A pigeon walked on board and started hunting around for food. CP and I were hoping to see it get trapped inside when the train departed.

The "doors closing" tone sounded, and the pigeon immediately hopped off the train on cue. Yup, been there before.

As well as men who stop on the way into their movie premiere to pet local rats.

CP and I were hoping to see it get trapped inside when the train departed.

The "doors closing" tone sounded, and the pigeon immediately hopped off the train on cue. Yup, been there before.

But did he "Mind The Gap"?

Frodo's doppelganger lives next door to me. Arlo. He's so cute. He barks at people that pass by and it's soooo cute. He sees someone, just barks twice, then goes back in and lies down. Corgis are soooo cute.

Which made me remember the time WB and Co was in town and we smuggled Thurston in the Grand Cal. When he started barking Brad went out on the balcony and barked claiming he had turrets.

Good times.

Lol! Yeah, I remember that. I also remember that the waiter dude saw the water dish that was on the floor and I'm pretty sure he knew then, and yet, he did not say anything. Man, that was a lot fun!

Lol, yeah, I do floss Sammy's teeth. But, only cause he keeps bugging me 'till I floss him. I blame my Dad for making Sammy love minty floss. Lol.

wendybeth 02-16-2009 12:09 AM

Drince, two years ago we went on a cruise and my sister watched our animals for us. I called home one day to see how everything was going and she said "Fine, but Sam's being weird". I asked her to define weird, and she said that he kept going into Tori's bathroom and meowing mournfully- nothing seemed to pacify him, and so she thought maybe he was just missing his Girl. I laughed and told her what he really wanted- to be flossed- and after a moment of silence she said "There is no way I am flossing that cat!" I told her not to worry about it, that he could wait until we got home. Later, when I phoned again, she told me she had broken down and flossed him and that he was back to being a happy boy. Needless to say, he's got great teeth.:D

Well, that's a VERY good thing (dental work on cats is expensive!) Since I've gotten all three of my cats at 10(x2) and 7, I've never had kittens to 'train' on anything like that!

Correct. The change affects ONLY over-the-air broadcast television.

Specifically, over-the-air ANALOG broadcast; there is now over-the-air DIGITAL broadcasting (which is what needs to be used now). One CAN still get free TV.

cirquelover 02-18-2009 08:34 PM

Actually it was delayed, I recall Obama signing something to give people more time. It would appear they ran out of coupons for the converter boxes. Gary has a new converter box though so we were ready, at least we can watch Lost. Although last week reception was so bad we waited until the next day and watched it online. I hope we can watch it tonight!

Prudence 02-18-2009 09:20 PM

We have coupons, but can't find anywhere actually selling the boxes.

I got mine at Best Buy. They had quite a few, in a couple different models.

I got it just in case my cable goes out for an extended time, but my power is on (which happened for 2-3 weeks post K - actually if you just look at power, it was over a month, but I didn't come back until the water was potable.)

It was delayed on a voluntary basis. Between 1/3 and 1/2 of stations went ahead and crossed over to digital on the 17th.

I read that production of the boxes was greatly slowed after the coupons ran out and the Bush administration indicated that they would not request further funding. After the Obama administration got new funding, production was ramped back up but it will be mid April before you see supplies reappear in the stores.
