Who remembers the game Mousetrap?

If you remember the old game Mousetrap, you may get a kick out of this full scale version. (work safe)

I was thinking it about just the other day since a Rube Goldberg mousetrap was the theme of the Sunday NYT crossword puzzle.

ozron 04-16-2007 03:26 PM

This is cool!

Is there a real guy diving into the barrel?

AllyOops! 04-16-2007 03:46 PM

Mousetrap was the bomb! Unlike that heinous panic-attack-inducing-future-anxiety-disorder-pass-the-Lorazepam-heart-weakening game Perfection. Who tortures little children with a timed game that if you don't beat the clock, the little plastic pieces fly up into your face? It's right up there with the WTF of all toys, lawn darts.

Cool, SM! :snap:

Matterhorn Fan 04-16-2007 04:07 PM

I had Perfection! No child's "game" should do anything even close to inducing a panic attack. I realized, at some point, though, that if you pushed down on the board, it couldn't pop up when the timer went off.

Unfortunately, the same didn't work with those speed multiplication "tests" that they gave us in elementary school (which reminded me a lot of Perfection).

But, um, Mousetrap. Yeah I remember that.

I think I will need to pay a visit. San Mateo is a hop/skip/jump from my office.

If I can arrange it, I will go and I will bring my camera and take pictures, up close and detailed if allowed.

I loved Moustrap and this is just too cool!

That's awesome, but I'm disappointed by the grand finale foregoing the cage, and instead going with the generic-cartoon themed falling safe.

Bah, you could have created any kind of Rube Goldberg contraption if you want Acme cartoon effect. But why go to all the trouble of faithfully recreating Mouse Trap ... only to leave out the mouse trap??

Matterhorn Fan 04-16-2007 05:10 PM

Maybe because that cage didn't make it all the way down most of the time in the original?

.

oh Perfection.... definetely a game that could give a 7 year old a heart attack... I loved it...

I had a mouse trap game, then it became like some futuristic battleground for my G.I. Joe's...

Mousey Girl 04-16-2007 08:59 PM

I always wanted a Mousetrap game. I had a friend who had one, but we could never set it up correctly. When I was a little kid I used to have to go to physical therapy and one of the games they used to encourage my hand-eye coordination was Perfection. I love that game!

Cadaverous Pallor 04-16-2007 09:56 PM

I love this! Now that's how you spend Halloween! (If you look at enough of the Flickr photos, you get to some not-so-safe-for-work content :D)

I'd like to see a life-size Run Yourself Ragged. I adored this thing, and my mom still has it!

Sub la Goon 04-16-2007 10:18 PM

I think someone around here has a Mousetrap tag line in his Signature?

alphabassettgrrl 04-17-2007 06:25 PM

I remember Mousetrap! We could never get it to work right. But it was fun trying.

NickO'Time 04-17-2007 08:23 PM

I loved that game, I had two different versions of the game. A great childhood toy.

If you want a real size version of that, a close approximation would be the Noah's Ark attraction at Kennywood in Pennsylvania.

Here's a fun 'Run Yourself Ragged' video on YouTube.

That's the one. Boy, that guy sucks. What a cheater. I can still do the whole thing without cheating. It's comforting to see that his is also missing the hoop (after the donut looking part and before the maze part). I lost mine too.

There's one on ebay for $24 if you want to practice!

I hated mouse trap with a passion. We never could get it to work right so basically it was like a wasted afternoon.

You spent a whole hour going through the game building this device which then never trapped your opponent. meaning that you just kept playing until someone gave up in disgust usually destroying the game in the process.
which of course, had the added disadvantage of making it even harder to build the stupid thing next time.

I know what you mean

CoasterMatt 05-02-2007 05:34 PM

They now sell 'Run Yourself Ragged' as 'Screwball Scramble'

Babette 05-02-2007 08:34 PM

We would argue about whether or not you win if the darn trap caught on the teeth and didn't fall all the way down. Plus, you are totally screwed when you lose a piece. The mice are cute!
