French elections
Sarkozy, a law and order hardliner, who wants the French to work harder and pay less tax, and would restore France's strength and renew voters' faith in politics. Wants to promote overtime, restrict union powers and protect French business if elected. He also says he will create a Ministry of Immigration and National Identity
Royal Aiming to be France's first woman president a Socialist who is an inspiration for the French left. Promising to hike minimum wages, impose higher taxes on the wealthy, punish firms relocating abroad and introduce boot camp for young offenders. Bayrou Moderate, who is calling on the French voters to turn down 25 years of right-left dominence. Le Pen Fighting yet again on an anti-immigrant platform that has resonated with working class voters and taking the political elite to task for wrecking France's economic and social fabric. |

So it's down to Sarko et Ségo(lène Royal). C'mon Sarko!
|
Since it doesn't much matter to me who is president of France I am rooting for the "curiously hot" (as Jon Stewart said) one.
|
I guess some of the hard line socialists in France aren't very happy about Sarkozy winning.
I find it interesting that one of the first things Sarkozy did was to reach out to the USA by stating we will have a friend and an ally in France. I don't know anything about the campaign, but I wonder if that was one of his campaign points. |

The International Herald Tribune on the nature of Sarkozy's pro-Americanism. In short, not of the nature that many are likely to think.

Ahh, good link.
|
Did Sarkozy win or did everyone else just surrender?
|
So will they go back to being called French Fries in DC now, or still Freedom Fries?
