The RETURN of the Return of the "If I had $300 to buy one item of clothing today..."
|
I want these
![]() $119 and ![]() $198 |
E: Love both choices!
|
I'm going to quickly blow 2/3 of it on this wonderful vintage-inspired frock from Anthropologie:
$208 And, because it still gets a bit chilly at night, i will probably need a fitting sweater for $88..... |
I adore that dress!!!!!
I wish that site had more in the full figured sizes.... Now I have to go find something.... be back. Okay, I'm back. Not that I have ANYWHERE to wear it, but I adore this $158 ... enough leftover to get some spanx! ![]() |

Ponine as Grace Kelly! It is completely lovely and will look great on you!
|
Ponine, that dress is beautiful.
Treat yourself! |
300 smackers? Hmm, I'd buy a black suit -- old school style. And a walking stick. And maybe, because I'm cool, the clerk would throw in some socks. Sweet!

Okay, I never, ever pay retail but for you I make an exception.
Re-Mix '30's-inspired sandals $158
![]() leaving me enough for rifling local antique shops for a bakleite braclet like this ![]() |

Today it's a Tocca white blouse for $198. I look nothing like the model but I think it's a wearable numbah. ![]() To go with, these lovelies from Sundance for $88 ![]() And I still have enough left over for lunch. |
I'm torn, should I go for darkstone?
or sandstone? |
I say go with the sandstone. It brings out the color in your eyes better.
Also, I've heard sandstone is the new black. |
I'm going to take 2 days worth of shoping and make a complete, but daring outfit. I'm going to have to see how I feel about mixing prints in this way. I think it works.....for now.

I need to start building a wardrobe. This thread has me inspired to get rid of more of my stuff.
It's just time. |

Yeah, I suck at virtual shopping, I'm better off sticking to the real thing
|
So, i bought new IRL shoes today but I'm embarrassed to post about them.

Today's $300 goes to a cute Radley suitcase (150 English pounds). Their luggage makes me smile and smiles are a rare and needed commodity in airports. Do you think the doggie pulltag makes it just a little too twee? ![]() |

Oh, alright.
![]() They're EARTH SHOES! My bad and painful feet have taken me down a scary path. Oh, and I own crocs ie: gardening shoes. I wear them gardening (and nowhere else!) |
Quote:
ETA: See, I told ya! |
Quote:
Those are cute. |
I thought it was going to be these:
![]() |
They are better than the Earth Shoes I had when I was 12. I was surprised at their relative cuteness (relative to their hippy dorkness).
|

... so if you NA bought Crocs, she'd better post here. Let your mainstream flag fly! ETA: I took too long to post. I'm still not ashamed. |
I own crocs. Mickey crocs.
Great for laundry day, washing the car, and other grubbiness. Though.... I have worn them to the store, and to work at least once. |
I'm going to either deficit spend or hope the exchange rate get better real soon.
![]() Lulu Guinness @ £195.00 Of course, I may buy another one tomorrow.... ![]() |

I've gotten into swing dancing lately and I want an outfit to go to a swing club in LA where people get dressed up.
one can dream! |
Uh oh. I think these are cute. Damn.

They'd look like someone **** on your feet and then poked holes so your toes could breath.

I'll have to check out the pants at the Gap. But by the time I shortened them the wide leg would be all gone. |
I was wondering something as I was driving home this evening (and hearing a report that clothing is expected to surpass computers in terms of online purchases this year).
How comfortable are you with buying clothing online? For me, I generally want to try items on before I buy them (ESPECIALLY shoes!). And many of the items shown in this thread would be definite "try on before you buy" items. I am curious to hear the feedback on this. |
If I can buy online and return to a brick-and-mortar store, I definitely buy online. I much prefer to try things on in the privacy of my own home. Frankly I prefer to shop from the privacy of my own home, too, so as to avoid annoying comments from shop employees.
|
I prefer shopping on-line because I can do it anytime. With shoes, it is always a crap shoot anyways, so I always require the ability to return. Certain stores have a better selection of sizes on line (:cough:Anthropologie) and I don't get as frustrated. I find that I am doing about 80% of my apparel shopping on line lately.
|
I've never bought clothes online. Well, other than shoes. I've been wearing the model of Saucony running shoes for almost a decade and the same model of Rockports for just about as long so I can safely buy those online.
But never clothes. Of course, until a couple weeks ago it had been a few years since I had really shopped for clothes in a regular store either (generally it is "I'll take one of whatever shirt is closest to the door"). |
Edited to rephrase:
Stop being all "non-shopping blah blah blah" in this mindless self-indulgence thread. ;) |
Ok, ok. If I had $300 to buy one item of clothing today...I'd buy whatever shirt was closest to the door at Macy*s and spend the rest at Cinnabon.
|
I KNEW I liked Alex!

Hello, gorgeous ...

I love me some good colorful bakelite! |

You know. IRL, I actually don't do a lot of shopping. Probably because of the whole "I'd rather spend my money on X" thing (usually travel, gadgetry). But... this is more of a "well, if I had to spend it on clothes..." |
![]() $198 ![]() $88 ![]() $110 ![]() $70 This shirt... in ![]() $35 and ![]() $30 Total: $521 Measly savings: $38 Man, and here I thought I was going to find a pretty dress. Nothing really appealed to me. :( |
As a more serious response to the "buying clothes online" question, while I don't do it Lani does so all of the time and I can't think of any major horror stories and returns are generally straightforward.
|
I'm in the market for a cute, fashionable trench coat. Something that will work in cool weather and that is more in the dressy casual vein. I only have parkas for cool, rainy weather and I need something that's a bit more formal for work or travel.
Let me know if you come across anything, fashionistas. |
What length are you looking for? I've seen some really nice "car length" coats recently.

I tried to buy this dress this morning, and it's on back order until JULY. So much for wearing it in June. Sigh. Quote:

As a matter of fact, I actually am looking for a little black dress.
Not for me. For my daughter. I had posted one here but I'm totally changing my mind.
I hate black. I love |

That's how much people will pay for hats?! I need to take up millinery.
|
please do!!! I have never been able to buy a hat in the store, I'd love to buy one that fits!!!
|
I'm a little over but today's purchase is
![]() on-sale on Amazon for $529 but I could get it used $325. But so what? Endless hours of Scully and Mulder! |
holy crud. $237 for a straw hat

I was actually thinking of trying my hand at hat-making. I want a victorian riding hat, and they're just too expensive to buy already made.

I'm desperately in need of a double-breasted white dinner jacket....
