He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

Talk about 80's.. Anyone watch this cartoon?

If not.

At least check out this parody of He-man singing 4 Non blondes ...

Its hysterical...

Cadaverous Pallor 05-23-2007 10:26 AM

I loved He-Man and She-Ra. My brother and I had quite a collection.

4 Non Blondes? WTF?

I like this one better.

I looked around a bit and there are some bad things out there labeled "spoofs" but are just fart jokes.

Alex 05-23-2007 10:48 AM

I watched the cartoon of course, but even then I wasn't thrilled with it. But my young junior high mind really liked the live action movie they did. I've never seen it since and I'm guessing it is probably best that I not.

VAM. There are some things best left to childhood memory...

flippyshark 05-23-2007 11:12 AM

I'd say you're certainly better off keeping your memories of the live action film hazy. My greatest problem with it was that it simply plopped some of the series characters into a then-contemporary suburban setting. complete with Elliot-like teenage kid. I imagine this was a budget mandated decision, but I would have preferred a fantasy environment, even if that meant filming out in some nearby wilderness and adding a few cheesy sets and matte paintings. (It worked for Krull, The Sword and the Sorceror and numerous other Conan wannabes at that time, and I ate those movies up.)

These days, an eye catching Masters of the Univrse movie could be made on a modest budget. It would almost certainly be awful, but I'd probably give it a rental.

blueerica 05-23-2007 11:17 AM

Haha, CP! I think I've seen your link before, it's a good one.

I don't have the time right now, but I'll have to look up some of my favorite He-Man spoofs. For the time being, I just wanna say that Robot Chicken rocks my 1980s cartoon universe. I dig it when a spoof can be reverent while lampooning my childhood Saturday mornings.

Stan4dSteph 05-23-2007 11:22 AM

We need a Masters of the Universe vs. Thundercats movie.

blueerica 05-23-2007 11:24 AM

That would be insane.

And no contest! :p I did enjoy both, and did my share of pretending I was Cheetara in my backyard. My brother had the awesome Thundercats sword which lit up. But come on, there's no way they'd win against the massive army of the MotU.

thecorndogwalker 05-23-2007 12:50 PM

Im probably being too lazy, but wasnt later in the series a bunch of new thundercats that joined.... were they robots??? I guess i should google that..

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 05-24-2007 12:00 AM

I love He-Man. Boss Radio recently gifted me a 'best episodes' DVD. WHOO!

NickO'Time 05-24-2007 12:40 AM

Skeletor was cool, but I was kind of more into Voltron. :D

I watched Voltron religiously. I even had all of the toys. I also was really into Robotech.

I even used to watch Go-Bots. I am ashamed to say that.. Scooter was a big queen!!!

Cadaverous Pallor 05-24-2007 08:02 AM

Voltron was my fav of the mecha genre. Robotech was over my head.

Playing Voltron was best if everyone involved had bikes. :D

We could be finding out very soon. There's a new film in the planning stages as we speak.

Yes, a new He-Man movie is in the works.

He-Man Returning to the Big Screen
Source: Variety
May 24, 2007

Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver are working with Mattel to turn "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" into a live-action film, reports Variety. Justin Marks is set to write the script. Silver will produce.

He-Man was born as a Mattel action figure, and the toymaker created an animated series in hopes of selling dolls. The series became a cult favorite, but the brand was hardly helped by its first big screen incarnation, the campy 1987 flop Masters of the Universe that starred Dolph Lundgren as the title character and Frank Langella as his nemesis Skeletor.

The franchise has been reimagined by the producer and the writers and pitched to Mattel as a classic good vs. evil battle, using the kind of visual effects strategy employed in 300. A warrior is touted as the last hope of a magical land called Eternia, which is being ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.

Many of the characters will be informed by the mythology created in the four different cartoon series done since the 1980s.

OT: I loved Voltron [v3: lion force] as a kid but after learning of the storyline and violence edits I'm not too keen on the show and anxiously await the DVD release of the original show Golion.

Gosh, remember when a He-Man could be Master of the Universe? Now they can not even get their check cashed at the Albertsons.

NirvanaMan 05-25-2007 06:58 PM

Wathced it, and had most all of the toys including Skelators lair. Also had the most awesome He-Man game for my Intellivision.

Not Afraid 05-25-2007 10:28 PM

I had lots of the toys (my Dad worked for Mattel - duh) and....somewhere in the archaives....there is a phallic picture of one of them.

€uroMeinke 05-25-2007 10:59 PM

Yeah, He -Man always makes me think of dildos

I think Skelator obsessively works out at the gym to compensate for his giant skull head.

thecorndogwalker 05-29-2007 03:07 PM

Skeletor is defienetly a big "girl" but it's ram-man who i like
