For the Trekkers

Makes me want to start TiVoing reruns. I checked GD's Nitpickers Guide and it doesn't mention Guy in a Dress. :p

Kevy Baby 05-23-2007 11:43 AM

I just love people who have way too much time on their hands (meaning the person who found, captured, and posted the photos and explanation - not CP).

Thanks for the link CP!

mousepod 05-23-2007 11:48 AM

Here's a link to another blog with an "explanation". I like the Futurama reference.

Ghoulish Delight 05-23-2007 11:54 AM

What's weirding me out is that he's in the exact same stance in both images. What's that about?

With what appears to be the exact same facial expression!

SzczerbiakManiac 05-23-2007 12:04 PM

Hell, I coulda told you that! I have an ST:TNG skant uniform* made from the actual patterns used by the costumers on the show. (I had inside connections back then.) Lots of the background males wore them. Sadly, they were only used in the first season. I thought it was a cool idea.

*I may even have some pictures of me in my skant taken during a time when there was a lot less of me around the middle and more of me on the top of my head. No, I will not post them.

mousepod 05-23-2007 12:16 PM

Hey CP... your OP has sent me on a journey through the web.
While it wasn't what I was looking for, I found this.
I love the interweb.

Capt Jack 05-23-2007 12:42 PM

shouldnt that be a 'skilt'?

personally, I find this all very disturbing (especially mousepods referenced website. these folks are WAY too serious). I think Im going to find a motrin and go lay down for awhile.

in the meantime...this

thecorndogwalker 05-23-2007 12:48 PM

You can not give us information like that and not post the pictures!!

And... while I don't have a copy of the uniform laying around, I knew what they are and the story behind them. I heard it from Bjo Trimble, in fact. (I guess that bakes me an official Trek Geek.)

You can not give us information like that and not spill the beans.

Or do I have to bake a certain official Trek Geek in a broiling hot oven?

JW Bear,

I want you to spill the story behind Starfleet boys wearing the Skant while hanging around the Enterprise. Was cross-dressing imagined to be the wave of the future? Was androgency predicted to be ultra-hip by then? What did Ms. Trimble give as the rationale for a Sulu wearing Uhura duds?

blueerica 05-23-2007 06:16 PM

Nothing like skant-ily clad men to make me chuckle.

Pretty much the same info that is linked to in Mousepod's post above... TPTB wanted to show a future with more gender equality in dress. She referred to them as "skorts", and said that they were basically just shorts with front and back panels. Oh, and she also said that a bunch of Paramount secretaries were given the task of deciding which of the male extras had the best legs... :D

JWBear 05-23-2007 07:00 PM

Oh... And I just found this, if you want your own manskirt. Dontcha love the internet?

NirvanaMan 05-23-2007 07:04 PM

Umm CP, how in the world did you find that obscure website?

Not Afraid 05-23-2007 07:35 PM

I was trying to explain the difference between the levels of Disney Geekery to a friend when she responded "Oh, it's like Treckers and Treckies". I think i managed to smile and nod. I think.

What are the levels of Disney Geekery?

Not Afraid 05-23-2007 08:42 PM

See, there are no different names like the Trecker/Treckies thing. We need to develop it for convenience sake. ;)

Oh, but there are names - for all five levels of Disney geekery: normal people, parents of small children, AP holders, fan board participants, and Zapppop.

Actually, it was linked to here before, by Szczerbiak Maniac I think, to Steve Don't Eat It. The Sneeze is now one of the few blogs I subscribe to. It's consistently funny.

You guys have made this an awesome thread. SM and JW, you guys should respond at The Sneeze. Mousepod, great googling. :D

By a strange coincidence this very topic has been seen before on Lot.

Culottes ore essentially baggy shorts. Skorts or skants have panels front and back that hide the split of the legs.

Your link is in German, I think. Here it is in English. I loved when they threw Brent Spiner something fun.

The sneeze did an update, which is way too long and repetitive, especially since we are blessed with those that knew the answer here. The reason I link to it is this:
The idea behind the skant was to make some sort of statement about sexual equality in the 24th century. Things are so equal that men & women's fashions are identical, that sort of thing. Never mind that all the female actors
wore padded bras and makeup.Hah!

They should have made Riker wear the skant.

Sorry 'bout that. I was posting from work on that and had the sound off. I recognized it visually, but didn't realize it was not in Engrish.
