Knott's Sierra Sidewinder is now open
As of today, Knott's Berry Farm has a new family coaster- a Mack built spinning coaster, with a sensible 42" height requirement (for whatever stupid reason imaginable, Jaguar has a 48" height requirement so that was a bit of a concern.) Anyway, early word is the ride is a ton of fun, and it has lot's of spinning and moderate forces. The thing I can't wait to see is the onride videos - each car has a video camera, the dvd booth is still under construction, so it'll be a lil bit before we get to see that.
Anyway, there's a youtube video of the ride in operation - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOBGVLNHMU0 Have fun :) |
This opened today? Or yesterday? {Friday} Ooo!! Okay, but tell me, do the cars spin around???? I am assuming so by the shape and what I could tell from the video {thank you for providing that, btw}.
Oh man, now I want to go. Our passes expire next month, I think. I just noticed your avatar; is that the lion from the Bugs Bunny cartoon that says 'I don't want no teeeeee....'? Or is it a Disney lion? |
My avatar (as of posting this) is Pete Puma :)
|
Okay, so I have the 'tea' thing right but is it not with Bugs? Now I am feeling a bit unsure. I need more time to watch cartoons. :D
|
His first (and only classic appearance) was in the 1952 short, "Rabbit's Kin".
He's voiced by the legendary Stan Freburg. |
I will have to go to the links I got when I googled.
What I remember, from what I can remember, is Bugs Bunny {or someone} who keeps offering him tea to distract him. 'How many lumps would you like? One, or two?' and after the first couple of times he says 'I don't want no tea...' Now, this could definitely be an imitation..... Trying to figure out a day to go to Knotts' that is also not blocked at Disneyland. Great to see the new coaster and the new Island at DL. |
You're right, MouseWife, that's the cartoon.
|
Thanks, GD, and thanks CoasterMatt for using such a cool avatar.
I used to watch Bugs Bunny every single Saturday morning. {we won't say how many years ago...} My big brother was home on leave and so he was given priority to the t.v. He came in and said 'Hey, squirt, Ma said I get the t.v.' then he saw what I was watching and said 'Oh, never mind. I'll watch this with you.' I loved them all. I am going to have to google how many BB cartoons there were.... |

OK, now we will not be getting within 100 yards: I just got slapped with a retraining order.

And restrained by the courts :) |
The spinning isn't that intense, nowhere near as fast as say, Euro, iSm and I on a teacup.
|
It spins. That's enough of a disqualifier.
|
It looks like fun. Almost makes me want to go to Knott's.
Almost. |
Wait until Timber Mountain Log Ride reopens - which might not be until mid summer.
It seems they did a great job of ignoring the ceilings of the caves over the years, and they ain't what they used to be. |
Oh what do you mean about the refurb on the log ride? Darn it, my passes expire, oh crap, really soon!!!
Hee hee, Kevy, it sure sounds like you and Susan have a good thing going. ;) And, I do love Knotts. No, it isn't Disneyland but I do enjoy it. I went earlier this month, with just a bit of time, and The Hubster and I had a leisurely good time. Browsing the shops, enjoying the characters, we rode the train that looked like a bus or something {a goose...oh, damn my memory!!}, rode the stagecoach {I love going back in time, the inside of the coach was cool}, had candy and watch the saloon show. That was funny. The fellow was going around asking people about marriage and how long they'd been married. When he asked me I said 'Twenty four years' and he said 'I'm sorry'...to which I repeated '24 years' and he said 'No, I heard you.' I am so corny. I thought that was funny. Oh...I wanna go... |
Part of the Timber Mountain Log Ride's roof caved in, and it's been closed for quite a while - not because of a scheduled rehab, either. :(
|
Oh man! I saw it had been closed when we went {I think so, May 12th} but I thought it was a refurb!! Was anyone hurt???
|
No major injuries, but apparently major enough problem to address immediately.
Not long ago (last year or the year before), the rebuilt the bridge over to the loading area after it nearly collapsed. |
Is it termite damage? Or water damage? That ride isn't their oldest one.
I wonder if Knotts is in need of a tenting? |
I believe it was a gunite ceiling that collapsed.
While the Log Ride isn't the oldest ride, it does have quite a punishing internal environment (a large water reservoir right in the middle of the building). |
Is that the fiberglassy looking stuff?
My pass expires the 8th...I will be lucky to check out the Sidewinder. Thank you for you updates, I know on here I can always be kept up to date!! |
cool this spinning mouse looks like Gerstlauer but with a Sign of Euro Mir lol so MACK Ride .
It looks like the same restraints than the new Trolley ride at IOA . |
