New job

So, I started my new job yesterday.
I like it.
I'm a post-production coordinator for 2 tv shows.
It's on the lot of a big studio.
I'm seeing stars... both ways. I'm working my butt off and seeing stars encircling my head and I'm seeing film/tv celeb stars.
It's a pretty fun job. Very demanding, though. Lots of fun, but lots of stress.
All in all, it's cool.
It's also one of those deals where it could all end tomorrow if we're canceled, but meh it's worth it.

I relocated to Studio City and for the first time in 10 years I'm living alone. I like it.

I won't be able to tell you what studio or which shows for the time being. But in person I see no harm in mentioning it. Sorry for being cryptic, but I had to share my news with y'all.
:)

Congratulations!! May the show run for many seasons:cheers:

AllyOops! 05-30-2007 03:38 PM

Congrats, GC!!!! :snap: :snap:

I'm so happy for you!!!! :) I used to work in Post Production years ago, and I just loved it! In fact, it was how I met (my now late) boyfriend, Chris. It was seeing projects before the public did, meeting amazing & talented people & neverending parties! I was completely dazzled & had a total blast! It was a really thrilling time in my life!

I know you'll enjoy it, too. Studio City is a fun part of town. It's my neck of the woods! I feel a Jerry's Deli & Pinz meet in the future works....

Ghoulish Delight 05-30-2007 03:42 PM

BTW, you are near the two best Cuban restaurants in the whole of Southern California. Versailles (on Ventura in Encino) and, a little longer drive, Mambo's Cafe (on Victory in Glendale). Mmmmmmmmmmm.

innerSpaceman 05-30-2007 03:42 PM

I'm sure you know how happy I am for you G.C.

I hope to see you more often, since we are just over the hill from one another (sort of).

Oh, and I loathe reality shows ... but I won't hold that against you. :p

RStar 05-30-2007 04:31 PM

Congrats! That is so cool GC! I can't wait to talk to you about it!

My mom and I are going to USH to take the VIP tour that Al wrote about, and we are watching the new reality show "On the LoT". We love the movies, and have a business involving movies StarTownGifts.com.

I hope this oportunity continues as long as you would like!

When working in the porn industry, one needs to be cautious.

Not Afraid 05-30-2007 05:30 PM

Congratulations! I can't wait to hear about your new job, the shows your working on and the stars you are seeing. I will nod my head and try to act like I know what and who you are talking about. ;)

scaeagles 05-30-2007 05:40 PM

Cool. I depsise the concept of celebrity, though, so I can't share that part of the excitement.

Gemini Cricket 05-30-2007 05:58 PM

Thanks, everybody. I guess that's why I've been kind of distant lately, I've been working on getting this gig...

It's totally thrilling. People on studio lots are really friendly.
Truth be told, I used to work in post from 1994-1997. I liked it a lot. This is my big return to the industry. :)

One's a reality type show, one's a documentary series type show. The former is trying truly to stay away from hokum, thank goodness.

GD ~ I love Cuban food. :)

I'll say. I can't believe we ran into each other on the set of Asian Pussy Buffet #8. I'm glad I didn't get busted for talking to you, crew members get in trouble for conversing with the talent. :D:evil:

As do I. The good thing about not watching TV anymore is that I don't recognize half of the people I'm supposed to at work. :D
Our post crew is sticking to our guns about now being or working with Hollywood phonies. I think it's working. The crew we're assembling is pretty down to earth.

CoasterMatt 05-30-2007 06:10 PM

wendybeth 05-30-2007 06:52 PM

Yaay, GC! Now I forgive you for not seeing you this past visit. (But you were missed). Sounds like a very cool job- I share Scaeagles disdain for the cult of celebrity, but it is cool to be in a creative and innovative work environment, particularly given your love of theater. I wish you the best, and don't put up with any assholey behaviors from those celebs, okay?

€uroMeinke 05-30-2007 06:52 PM

Congrats! Let us know if you run into Norma Desmond

Disneyphile 05-30-2007 08:09 PM

I tried that, apparently the last thing he worked on was the original animated version of Pinocchio in which he had a supporting role.
Other than that it was just some ad work and guest shots for the Disney company.

Morrigoon 05-30-2007 08:21 PM

I'm so jealous! How cool is that!!!!

LSPoorEeyorick 05-30-2007 08:23 PM

Woo hoo woo hoo! The better half loves post work-- it's such a nice crowd, usually. So glad to hear you're ejoying and it's making you happy!

My work takes me on the lot on the rare and lovely occasion-- perhaps we can lunch at the commissary someday? :)

Strangler Lewis 05-30-2007 08:28 PM

Congratulations! I, too, am not much on the concept of celebrity if by "celebrity" we mean people whose primary claim to fame is repeatedly disgracing themselves. However, in the late '80s I worked as a waiter in Beverly Hills. It was cool to see actors you admired walking around. I also once passed Joe DiMaggio on the street in San Francisco. I wanted to knock him down so I could help him up.

lindyhop 05-30-2007 08:33 PM

Congratulations, GC! Great news!

Totally. Let's be sure to do it. :)
The commissary is pretty good. Cheap, too. It's funny because everyone eating there spends a lot of time looking at other people to see if they are someone famous. :D

I actually am on imdb. :) I can't add these shows until they air.

#8 is coming out??? YES!!! Now I know what to buy my hubby for Christmas this year!!! Sorry. I couldn't help it...I had to say it.

GC, I'm happy to "see" you happy. Living alone is the best EVER.

Gemini Cricket 05-31-2007 12:47 PM

I think I'm the only one on the Smaffyversalmountbrothersworks Studio lot that brought a home lunch. I was ridiculed for it in the break area... :D

Isaac 05-31-2007 01:41 PM

Honestly GC, you should hire an assistant like everyone else!

Congrats on the job! Swipe me something cool from the studio.

Beat 'em at their own game. Start bringing super gourmet type lunches like a wedge of Brie, some baguette slices, a bunch of grapes and some prosciutto ham. Then tell 'em you bring your own because the restaurants can't beat what you've got :)

Aw...F'em.

I think that eating out gets old. Old and boring.

I'm with Morris' varied yummy lunches....

Gemini Cricket 05-31-2007 03:47 PM

I'm going to be the home lunch rebel. I'm even going to take it into the commissary until they tell me not to. :D

fyi - Tv actors are skiiiiiiny! Too skinny if you asked me.

innerSpaceman 05-31-2007 04:42 PM

Has World Wrestling Federation gone off the air??? If not, maybe they'll hire you once you've proven your worth.

Chernabog 05-31-2007 04:57 PM

Yay congrats!!! So Miss Thang now that you live like a mile from me, give me a call, pffft!

NirvanaMan 05-31-2007 04:57 PM

That's freakin' awesome. I may even be hitting you up for a job someday. I have my doubts that this whole "internet" thing is really going to take off.

:D

NM ~ Heck, I have to hustle for my next job. This one is only guaranteed through January. (If we get picked up that's a different story.)

I had one of my spys take this picture of GC's dining room, to give you an idea of what one of his candlelight suppers look like:

;)

Moonliner 05-31-2007 07:40 PM

Damn. Now I'm really PO'ed that I didn't make the cut for being a neilson family (I was "Too hi tech" for them). I could have done some good in the world.

Gemini Cricket 06-01-2007 12:24 PM

I'm lunching in the commissary today. Lunch meeting.

Golf carts are really quiet. One can sneak up on you at anytime. I've almost been run over twice. (!!!)

In Hollywood terms, CP is grossly overweight. :D

So I just got lambasted (in a good way) for something on the lot. I was walking to the mail room and ducked out of the way of one of the golf carts that goes to and fro.
The big guy driving it says, "I see you. You don't have to get out of my way, I have to get out of your way. Pedestrians always get the right of way." He's still talking as he's driving away from me... "Don't move out of the way for nobody... Stand your ground, young man. Mm hmmm. Don't let anyone run your ass over. Shoot. Nobody better run my ass over or I'll get him..."

I thought that was pretty funny.

Yes, but what kind? Today I'm feeling kinda like an Arthur Miller character, other times I feel more like a David Lynch.

Ew!!! Talk about job hazards!

That's one thing I've made up my mind on - I refuse to shoot and/or edit for any HBO "Autopsy" type stuff.

Now, if it were fake, that's fine. But no actual footage.
