Seven Seven Oh-Seven

Anything spooky happen today, 7/7/07? I may be a little wary at 7pm...(though that's really 19:00 and I should have been up at 7am)

CoasterMatt 07-07-2007 05:32 PM

Rose and I had gotten invited to renew our wedding vows aboard Tatsu today, but she had to work.

Alex 07-07-2007 06:38 PM

Nope, nothing here.

But then I'm guessing you'd hardly expect me to report yes.

Mousey Girl 07-07-2007 08:08 PM

Luckily things have been very quiet here today.

I did have a Bridezilla haunting me today. Her wedding was today, so at least she should be history.

Ghoulish Delight 07-07-2007 08:13 PM

It's almost 8:17 (aka 7:77)

CoasterMatt 07-07-2007 08:49 PM

I totally screwed up the beautiful fascia of my computer...

I feel like such an idiot.

LOL!!!

€uroMeinke 07-07-2007 11:06 PM

Well, I at least hope one of our favorite swankers is indulging in one of his favorite cocktails this evening, the 7 & 7.

flippyshark 07-07-2007 11:35 PM

i'm going to feel stupid for asking, but, why would there be any superstition about 7/7/07, particularly anything spooky? I mostly associate it with lucky numbre seven, or as a frequent holy number in scriptures - but it's also two thirty in the morning here, so my thinking isn't clear at all.

And the day being over, nothing strange happened, but I had a pleasant Greek dinner with friends and then watched CARS - so, a nice day.

Capt Jack 07-07-2007 11:47 PM

nuthin

just as well, 7's never really been my lucky number

DisneyFan25863 07-08-2007 03:12 AM

My day was uneventful at best...it was my half birthday, though.

Would have been an awesome release date for a James Bond film.

Moonliner 07-08-2007 05:32 AM

Was any mention made of this luck phenomenon last year on June 6th?

Or the 7th Harry Potter Book.

Alex 07-08-2007 07:32 AM

That wouldn't work since in England they switch the month and day from the way we do it.

katiesue 07-08-2007 08:28 AM

I got Maddy to clean her room for an hour. That is a major miracle.

No, but 6/6/06 was the release date for the already forgotten (and slavishly faithful) remake of THE OMEN.

When I was a teenager that use to be my fave drink. I over indulged once, and now the smell alone make me want to yammy. good luck with that! ;)

I cleaned the garage yesterday for the first time in three years, that's also a mericle! Other than that, nothing else of importance happened on 07/07/07. So at a little past seven in the morning, and counting the seconds it was 07:07:07, 07/07/07! Cool! That won't happen again for another 13 months, one day, one hour, one minute and one second. :D Mark your calendars!

Which one wouldn't work? 06/06/06?

Alex 07-08-2007 09:51 AM

It was a joke. But I was talking about 7/7/07. Though it works just as well for 6/6/06.

I was just being silly, I'm not superstitious or anything, especially about a human construct like the calendar and the clock.

Not Afraid 07-08-2007 11:02 AM

Luckiest day of the century?

Kevy Baby 07-08-2007 11:20 AM

You could have purchased a pizza from Papa John's for $7.77.

I wouldn't have as I don't like their pizza.

Yesterday was a very popular day for weddings as well.

Alex 07-08-2007 12:20 PM

My sister got married yesterday. I didn't go.

And in another couple years, when they announce the Natural Wonders list, you'll have more to add to your list.

Better get travelin'.

The Pyramids were in the finalist list, but at some point they decided to make the Pyramids "honorary" New Seven Wonders.

Whether they did that because they were getting all the votes or because they weren't getting any I don't know.

And hey, you could have voted. :p

Not Afraid 07-08-2007 07:09 PM

I need to travel more. Machu Picchu is the only place I've been on the list.

Thanks for link that, MF. VERY cool list.

And the pyramids are on the original list (or at least the Great Pyramid of Giza)

Perhaps you should start a Lot Seven Wonders in Seven Years (swisy) travel club starting with the Great Wall in '08.

Make it "Seven Hectic Years", and you'd have "SWISHY"! ;)

As in our political system - I can vote all I want, it doesn't fix the fact that the winners ALWAYS suck. :p

Probably safe for work but just in case you may want to keep the sound down.

Ghoulish Delight 07-10-2007 09:18 PM

Oh crap, we entirely forgot to swing by the Kwik-E-Mart when we were up in the valley last weekend.

Ghoulish Delight 07-18-2007 10:22 PM

Dredging up this thread again because a nagging, irretrievable memory was resolved for me today. When 7/7 rolled around, I knew I had heard something about some song being appropriately re-released on that date. NPR (where I originally heard it) refreshed my memory.

In 1976, the roots reggae song Two Sevens Clash by Culture, based on an obscure prophecy by Marcus Garvey, became a popular hit in the circuit of mobile sound system parties that fueled the reggae movement in Jamaica. It became so popular in fact, that by July 7, 1977 came around, the vast majority of Kingston actually began to worry about the day's approach. By the time the day arrived, much the city shut down, people preferring to remain inside than risk the possibility of witnessing whatever apocalypse the song promised.

Of course nothing happened, but it went down as a seminal moment in reggae history, and sparked the creation of a full album with the same title. So it was no coincidence that 7/7/07 was chosen as the date to re-release it, just under 1 year after lead singer and writer Joseph Hill died suddenly while on tour in Germany.

Interesting stuff, no?

Though I assume this is rhetorical; why yes, yes it is.
