Disneyland Anniversary July 17th

Anything happening for the 52nd Anniversary?

Snowflake 07-13-2007 10:47 AM

:babette: Leftover cupcakes?

BarTopDancer 07-13-2007 11:11 AM

Work. Then a visit to the park.

Not Afraid 07-13-2007 11:13 AM

Fifty TWO!

Morrigoon 07-13-2007 11:31 AM

Hmm... do we need a swanky evening gathering? I'd be up for anything 7:30 or later. Maybe dinner at Cafe Orleans?

Not Afraid 07-13-2007 11:38 AM

I can do a late night (after 7) dinner.

RStar 07-13-2007 12:20 PM

I doubt if they will, but does anyone know if the park will be doing anything that day. Though if they do, it will most likely be too early in the day for me.....

I'm going to try to make it in the eavining, but may only be able to stay for an hour to say high to the park, and Walt's memory.

Morrigoon 07-13-2007 12:21 PM

Probably sing happy birthday at noon around the flagpole.

innerSpaceman 07-13-2007 12:28 PM

I'll be there in the late afternoon and evening, but I really don't want to do a long dinner. I want to spend time in the Park. There's no good food there.

katiesue 07-13-2007 01:02 PM

I'm hoping to head up after work so should arrive 7ish. Would love to meet up.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 07-13-2007 02:15 PM

I will be there and up for whatever.

Kevy Baby 07-13-2007 02:19 PM

I may be there

Or I may not

keith - SuPeR K! 07-13-2007 02:58 PM

Mousey Girl 07-13-2007 03:56 PM

Chernabog 07-13-2007 04:07 PM

If y'all are gonna eat lunch in DtD sometime around 1:30ish then I could come meet y'all after this depo I have in Costa Mesa that morning.

Hey does anyone know where Company D is located?

LOL I always get a new watch every year, and since I don't have a pass I was gonna wait till October BUT... last time I was at the park (in a suit) I found a loverly Jack Skellington watch on Main Street. The CMs thought I was a CM, so they called Company D to find the watch. It was half off at Company D!

Then they asked me where in the Park I worked, to which I responded, sorry I am not a cast member.

The CMs were sort of annoyed that they spent all that time calling lol...

But good for me! So I was just curious where it was, so I can get down there soon with a CM friend.

Not Afraid 07-13-2007 05:27 PM

Company D is off of Anaheim Street. I, too, could drive you there.

Kevy Baby 07-13-2007 05:30 PM

I too could drive you there, but I don't know where it is.

Not Afraid 07-13-2007 05:39 PM

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...3d&ambiguity=1

It is one CERRITOS just West of Anaheim. It is one of the rectangular buildings without a courtyard that form a backwards L on Cerritos (if you look at the aerial map.

I think you can go through Disney Dining.

Hmm... any chance of getting a poll added to this thread for who's up for dinner?

€uroMeinke 07-13-2007 07:12 PM

Disneyland Anniversary July 17th

CM and I will be at the park from opening til closing if we can make it. Taking off the 17th and 18th from work yay....not sure about dinner yet depends....want to spend as much time riding or what not as we can and $$$ are kinda tight right now...

innerSpaceman 07-13-2007 09:34 PM

Yeah, I'm kinda in the spend no $ mode myself. On the other hand, I gotta eat. So it all depends.

€uroMeinke 07-13-2007 09:42 PM

Chris, are you trying to say something?? ;)

My life is so up in the air right now, I don't know what I will be doing. My wifes Grandmother died today, and a good freind of ours died in a car accident a couple of weeks ago. And with how my wife is locked up in the bedroom after her mother was murdered last year it's so very hard for me to make plans.

That said, I may try to cut out of work a little early and be there for a couple of hours. I may even eat some of the wonderfull food they have in the park for dinner!

Sorry Steve! ;)

That is brilliant - but I challenge anyone to come up with another appropriate 52 activity. I haven't been able to.

innerSpaceman 07-14-2007 01:11 PM

Or the number seven, the product of 5 +2 ... so we'll have to do Snow White.

Ghoulish Delight 07-14-2007 01:12 PM

Sum. The product would be 10.

innerSpaceman 07-14-2007 01:13 PM

Ooops. (Can we still ride snow white??)

€uroMeinke 07-14-2007 01:13 PM

I think there may be some poker playing in one of the saloons in Big Thunder, so that might be a go

CoasterMatt 07-14-2007 01:13 PM

There's playing cards in the restrooms next to Alice In Wonderland

The Magic Shop has card tricks

Ghoulish Delight 07-14-2007 01:15 PM

Anyone playing cards on Small World?

There are also 52 weeks in a year. Anything related to calendars?

€uroMeinke 07-14-2007 01:30 PM

Hmmm - I'm trying to update my listing of current attractions in chronological order to find out what #52 is - right now it looks like Honey I shrunk the Audience

Isn't there a calendar in Show White? SOME princess has a calandar associated with her. Belle? Aurora?

Babette 07-14-2007 02:10 PM

We could ride the teacups 52 times in a row. :barf:

Does Team 50-ONE have a signage plan for the 50-TWO now that the 50s are down? Or was that just a one time thing ? (haha I made a punny)

Belle has a rose to track time, not sure about calendar.

Gemini Cricket 07-14-2007 03:12 PM

I'd love to be at the park for the 52nd, but work will be keeping me there late this coming week.
:(

Have fun, y'all.

Not Afraid 07-14-2007 04:47 PM

i think we're up to 11 for dinner. 8 have replied but ML has a "guest", my husband hasn't replied and I think KS is joining in as well.

Morri, wanna make the call? Can we all make 7:30 and be done in time for Remember?

Ghoulish Delight 07-14-2007 04:51 PM

I have not consulted the wife, but I just responded yes to the poll.

innerSpaceman 07-14-2007 04:54 PM

I said yes to the poll, because I was on the fence. I'm switching to No, especially if we're 11.

I'm gonna love spending the evening at the Park with over dozen of us ... but I'm not so keen on that big a dinner. Last time we got all split up at Cafe Orleans, in fact, some of us had the most craptacular service ever.

As that was my last Disneyland meal ... I don't think I'm quite ready for a repeat there with another large group.

See ya all before 'n' after ... I promise not to ride any 52-related rides during dinner.

Not Afraid 07-14-2007 05:05 PM

We'll get split up no matter where we go with a large group. I'm of the school that spending time with friends outweighs all.

Babette 07-14-2007 05:09 PM

I kind of feel the same iSm. I do not need a big sit down meal, I think I'd rather enjoy people's company around the park, then seated in various sections of the restaurant. Move me to the "no" column please.

mousepod 07-14-2007 05:17 PM

According to various sources, the minimum driver's height at Autopia is 52".

mousepod 07-14-2007 05:18 PM

The first drop on Pirates is 52'.

innerSpaceman 07-14-2007 05:32 PM

ooooh, good ones!

I feel artificially cut-off from people at separate-table dinners. It's the one ocassion at the Resort where I always lament having so many people.

I like to spend time with friends uber alis, too. Heheh, I'm not skipping dinner so I get in some more rides or wander through Tomorrowland for the 12th time that day.

And yeah, Cafe Orleans again -- oi, I wish there were more than one decent place to eat in that whole famous themepark. Sheesh.

See what you started, ISM? ;)

I think I'll be around, but not having dinner the more I think about it. But we will see. It will be a last minute call, however.

Ghoulish Delight 07-14-2007 05:40 PM

Hmmm...I still have yet to consult the wife, but iSm's making some good points.

~MS~ 07-14-2007 05:56 PM

Not that I will be in the park that day but I can share what we often did when I took the crews from Special olympics, first becaues of the assorted taste buds but more because we were just such a large crowd, but we'd break into smaller 'units' go get the food for our group (we split the groups according to food choices) then we'd all rally back together over at the carnation gardens or fantasia gardens (isn't that the boat dock for the boats that don't exist anymore) It was a budget measure and it was a group picnic feeling...we were together as a group eating what everyone wanted...it worked for us and is just another idea to throw in the pot.

Capt Jack 07-14-2007 06:10 PM

Im afraid Im in the 'wish I could but not a chance' set

have fun

Morrigoon 07-14-2007 06:11 PM

Well, it doesn't have to be Cafe Orleans... we could just descend upon the PI if people want (or any other dining location).

Actually, given the history, if we want a shorter dinner perhaps a walk-up location is a better call?

(I just wanted pommes frites, but I can do without!)

Disneyland Anniversary July 17th

Still undecided at the moment. I really don't have the patience to sit down for much length for a meal right now but we'll see since my work has me working thru Monday just for Tuesday and Wednesday off so my time is very important to me. I am a last minute person sometimes. Not sure what CM and I are doing for dinner. Don't even know what i'm wearing either lmao...we'll be in the park for sure not sure if we're joining or not but may stop by to say a "hi" on our way someplace.

~MS~ 07-14-2007 09:28 PM

eh me and any pot I own will be hanging out here at home and comiserating with Lash that we're not at the HPOE with the rest of you!

innerSpaceman 07-14-2007 10:24 PM

Can't we just have them throw pomme frittes at us from the terrace?

I don't want to be dissuading people from dinner. After all, even if you have a party that can fit at a single table ... you end up conversing mostly with the four people right around you.

There's just something about the separate tables bit that is a minor peeve of mine .... exaserabated in this instance because of a crappy different-tables experience at that very same restaurant last time we were at the Park.

But the food there is yummmy, and I've only had poor service there the one time. By all means have a delightful dinner there if you'd care to.

Ghoulish Delight 07-14-2007 10:27 PM

At this point we're thinking we'd rather fend for ourselves dinner-wise and spend more time experiencing the park than eating.

madmonkeygirl 07-15-2007 09:49 AM

Disneyland Anniversary July 17th

I agree with ya GD that's the plan on my end as well. Not really wanting to waste time sitting down to eat for a long period. And i agree ISM even though i wasn't at that particular meal i heard what happened and that really makes me think twice about going in a large group to someplace that will split the group up into two. Gimini Cricket sorry to hear that you are working late especially on Tuesday. That's why i put in for the day off with work a month ago. :)

RStar 07-15-2007 03:54 PM

What is this pomme frittes of which you speak?

CoasterMatt 07-15-2007 05:01 PM

pomme frites - french fries :)

innerSpaceman 07-15-2007 05:19 PM

Ah, but it's the dipping sauce. Er, I suppose they couldn't throw the dipping sauce at us from the Terrace. That would be very messy.

How 'bout this? Those of you attending dinner order 4 sides of pomme frites for those of us who aren't ... and we'll stroll by and nab them from you, snack on 'em on the old Pirates Band stage right there near the Cafe Orleans, and kinda get to sorta hang out with you folks eating the full 6 courses.

A plan??

CoasterMatt 07-15-2007 05:24 PM

Pomme frites at Crepe Cafe are much better...

Tic Toc Dragon at the park

While we were strolling the park park last night, we ran into Tic Toc Dragon (specifically; we were in line for Matterhorn at the exit break and TTD was exiting). I will more than likely not be going on Tuesday, but if someone would like his number, please call me.

LSPoorEeyorick 07-16-2007 08:16 AM

I just realized-- this feels weird to say-- that I cannot remember the last time I was at the park. It would've been... hmm, it might've been... no, I can't even remember. Wait! I know. It was for three hours of the Lashbear/Lashstoat meet. Previously, I think it was somewhere mid-2006.

I think I overdosed awhile ago (several days in a row with family) and have been saving up for a joyous occasion (complete with not-too-hot heat and not-too-long lines.) We're without passes now, so I think we'll probably wait until the coffer is fuller and the weather is milder to buy new ones. So thusly, we will not be there for the anniversary.

We'd like to see you people, though. How is it that we've been married for a month and we haven't seen any of you?* Not cool.

*Except coworkers

Okay, I'm making an executive decision: we're not doing Cafe Orleans. Let's meet up, those of us needing a bite can decide at that time what suits us best and do so at that time.

This is partially motivated by my shortage of pommes frites funds, but mostly because there seems to be a lack of interest in a prolonged dinner, and Cafe Orleans almost guarantees that.

So 7:30 at some swanky location... anybody think Tiki Lanai and Dole Whip Bar a suitable spot?

After my cholesterol results today, I will test my arteries with one last day of ice cream, fried foods and other yummies. No holding back on the DL anniversary, I'm living dangerously! Where do they sell that sundae CM? Assuming I don't have a heart attack in the hub, the low fat diet begins Wednesday. (Or maybe after I make it to the OC Fair, too.)

I am counting about 21 LoTers for tomorrow evening. Does that seem accurate? I have a little celebration something and I want to bring enough for all.

innerSpaceman 07-16-2007 06:59 PM

Yes, bring plenty of chewing gum.

CoasterMatt 07-16-2007 07:45 PM

The Hot Beef Sundae was introduced by the Beef Council at the Iowa State Fair in 2005.

Most large fairs now serve some sort of variation on it.

The next thing I wanna try is the Deep Fried Cosmopolitan -- A fried pastry filled with cheesecake and topped with a sweet and tangy cranberry glaze and a lime wedge. Served on a stick.
:D

Thank you for that piece of information!! I knew it sounded familiar but could only remember having it at Cirque LV headquraters last year. Now I remember visiting my Grandparents and Mom raving about it and we had to go try it. She knows I make a mean twice baked potato that would go great!

There is a sign on Main Street today that reads:

Happy Birthday Disneyland!

Join Mickey Mouse and his pals as we celebrate the place where dreams come true!

Our special celebration begins at 4:45 PM in Town Square!

RStar 07-17-2007 03:21 PM

To think, prior to yesterday, I was considering not renewing my AP (for a lil while). The check went out this morning...

innerSpaceman 07-18-2007 11:45 AM

I'm so happy everybody did the compass dance. Heheh, pass it on to your children and grandchildren. The tradition is already 27 years old!

One of my fave things was at the very end ... when the 21 or so Park-Closers stretched hand-in-hand from one side of Main Street to the other, literally building-on-the-east to buidling-on-the-west, and walked down Main Street in an unstoppable phalanx of fun.

but yes, I hate the day-after-Disneyland-Birthday. Oh, how I hate it.

Babette 07-18-2007 12:26 PM

Friends from Vegas
Stoppping Pirates before the drop

Morrigoon 07-18-2007 03:11 PM

Yeah, KatieSue and I both determined that we were turning into pumpkins, and being only mildly enthused about watching Fantasmic made it a good time to call it an evening, rather than staying through and trying to leave with the crowd.

DisneyDaniel 07-18-2007 05:55 PM

Any decades old tradition can have only one source - iSm. ;) Since he's been doing Disney traditions far longer than most of us, this is out of his bag of tricks, and performed only on Disneyland's birthday, I believe...though traditionally it was done if you spent an entire day at the park, all of us closers were allowed to participate. :)

Crazy thing is, I believe I've done it 4 years in a row now.

BarTopDancer 07-19-2007 08:27 AM

I did it at 2am on my last night in the MK at WDW. That was geeky.

Looks like you guys had a blast. I had to leave right after dinner because dinner didn't like me /sob. :(

innerSpaceman 07-19-2007 10:02 AM

Yep, I have no idea how the Compass Dance started in the prehistoric time of circa 1980 - - but it's done on Disneyland Birthday when you close the Park -and- is also performed if you have both opened and closed the Park on any single day.

Of course, I'd now love for Hands Across Main Street to be a Disneyland Birthday Tradition - - but obviously one that can only be performed during the final moments of Main Street's Remaining 1 Hour of Shopping Convenience, and with a minimum of 21 Park Closers.

Me too. :( This was the first year that I decided not to renew because I only went maybe twice on my last AP. I live about an hour away from Disneyland, but finding the time to go these days is next to impossible.

Blast to the Past: I remember way back in the day when we posted on, um, another site (like nobody freakin' knows which one) and a total brou-ha-ha broke out when I had posted that I renewed online rather then drive down to the park to renew. I was eluded to as a total lazy ass (which, in all fairness, I am. But c'mon, don't point it out. That's just rude). I had almost forgotten about that! If MickeyD sees this, she'll remember. Good times. :D

Okay, I'm really off-topic. I had good intentions of posting that I miss my AP & that everyone looks like they are having so much fun in the picture! I have the gift of derail. ;)

innerSpaceman 07-20-2007 11:53 AM

Arrgh, Katie-Sue and Morrigoon had already left by the time we FINALLY all got together after the 2nd show of Fantasmic, and that photo was taken about 90 minutes later by the Park Closers, representing all the swankers who attended Disneyland Birthday (less Katie Sue and Morrigoon).

If they take pics of themselves doing the "52" against a simple background I'll totally do it....otherwise I'm too lazy :p

Same goes for you, Lashy, and hell, anyone else who wants in.

JWBear 07-23-2007 02:00 PM

Too late.

JWBear 07-23-2007 02:29 PM

Yes, and thanks for carrying me to the Tiki Room. It was nice to see the LoT members and reminded me again that I need to frequent this site more often. ;) Thanks again for being so nice and letting me join in all of your fun known as the Tiki room.

innerSpaceman 07-24-2007 03:27 PM

Um, I was there in the ladies loo when she used it. Er, I mean, there in the restaurant when HE used it.

(better still, George Harrison's words to me, still ringing Liverpuddlian in my ears, were "Well, seein' as you stole my napkin and all."

and Gebous Kevy, give it a rest!
