(No spoilers) Apparently some Harry Potter leaks are genuine

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19816389/?GT1=10150

The article does not reveal the ending, but DOES mention numbers of deaths in a listing of conflicting "leaked" endings. No names, but if you don't want anything remotely suggesting anything, then you may want to skip that passage.

Basically, one distributor accidentally send out a few copies, so someone out there has the real thing, and the real thing HAS leaked, but you don't know which of the supposed leaks are real.

In other news, the braille edition will finally be released on the same day as the rest: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19836925/

From National Braille Press' website:

Facts About the Fiction That Is
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The Harry Potter series represents National Braille Press's best-selling books in braille.

National Braille Press has produced nearly 12,000 braille books in the Harry Potter series.

Scholastic and National Braille Press will be partnering for only the second time to release the braille edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the same time as the print edition.

Sadly, only 1 in 5 blind schoolchildren in the United States uses braille as their primary reading medium; National Braille Press's literacy efforts focus on redressing this issue.

Blind children who receive regular, early instruction in braille have literacy skills equal to their sighted peers.

Braille is a system of six raised dots created in 1821 by French schoolboy Louis Braille. It is the only medium in which blind children can read or write.

A single braille copy of any Harry Potter book will be read by many people. More than sighted readers do, blind readers share or borrow copies of favorite books from braille lending libraries in each state run by the Library of Congress.

National Braille Press's version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will run approximately 1,100 braille pages; be packaged in ten volumes standing more than a foot high; occupy 15 inches of shelf space; and weigh approximately 12 pounds. To transcribe, proof, emboss, collate, and ship the braille edition will take approximately three weeks.

The braille edition can be pre-ordered from National Braille Press at the same discounted rate that Amazon offers sighted readers - $18.89 - until the release of the book on July 21. After that, the braille edition will sell for the same retail price of $34.99 as the print edition.

To produce the braille version costs about $50/book, approximately two times as much as Scholastic's print version. However, National Braille Press's policy is to charge blind readers the same prices paid by sighted readers. Donations to National Braille Press by loyal supporters make up the difference.

This year a team of blind children, calling themselves the Walking Wizards, will be helping us raise the nearly $53,000 needed to produce the braille edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by walking in the Vision 5K held in Boston on June 2nd. Support their efforts here.

Talk about being whipped up into a frenzy over this!! I'm feeling anxiety and I'm not even all that into Harry Potter! I'm sure I'll borrow someone's copy in a week or two when they're done with it. :D

innerSpaceman 07-18-2007 04:58 PM

I'm not a fast reader, and I'm concerned over being spoilt before I finish the book (or, pffft, perhaps before I even start it).

Meanwhile, talk about frenzy ---- this is now the 4th Harry Potter thread on the LoT.

I'm tempted to go out and wander the deserted streets as the nation huddles around their personal copies of HP - just to get that old sci-fi apocalypse feeling.

Not Afraid 07-18-2007 09:07 PM

Oooooh! That's a great idea! Where can we go that we normally wouldn't go because it is too busy?

CoasterMatt 07-18-2007 09:13 PM

This might be filed under a different sort of Harry Potter "leak"

NSFW - Animated Gif

Not Afraid 07-18-2007 09:15 PM

Who is that?

€uroMeinke 07-18-2007 09:17 PM

Is she supposed to be peeing?

Morrigoon 07-18-2007 10:22 PM

I actually hated that dress. She needs a stylist.

Chernabog 07-18-2007 11:02 PM

It's Hermione! I can see her underpants!

Well, he is that age.

Not Afraid 07-18-2007 11:07 PM

I see Paris
I see France
I see Hermione's underpants.

Or, maybe we can re-write it for Kevy:

Give me a lighter
Give me a match
Give me Hermione's under-age snatch

RStar 07-18-2007 11:24 PM

Oh.

Here I thought it was Lindsy Lohan showin off what she's got again.....

Mousey Girl 07-19-2007 07:04 AM

At least she's wearing undies.

Chernabog 07-19-2007 10:16 AM

Can we get back to talk about Harry Potter's stains again? Errrrr leaks, I meant leaks.

Stan4dSteph 07-19-2007 10:26 AM

Since I haven't read any of the books yet, I'm pretty much resigned to being spoiled before I ever get to the end of Book 7. I already read a spoiler for #6 in Entertainment Weekly last year, so I know who died.

Nephythys 07-19-2007 10:29 AM

The photos I originally posted are confirmed as the real thing- by a friend of mine who did know someone who got the book early through the shipping error by Deepdiscounts.

So actually-if you look, you will know the real ending.

(I saw a link about Scholastic going after Deepdiscounts but not sure where-on edit that may be it)

Snowflake 07-19-2007 10:34 AM

It's kind of fun reading peeking through my fingers.

Mousey Girl 07-19-2007 10:34 AM

I have read the spoilers. It will not stop me from reading the book, or even buying the book. Heck, it won't even ruin my enjoyment of the book.

Stan4dSteph 07-19-2007 10:39 AM

I think it's pretty sh!tty that people who got the books early posted spoilers. That's like the people who go and get the book on the release date, then flip to the end and shout it out loud. Totally lame.

Nephythys 07-19-2007 11:40 AM

I like spoilers. As long as I choose to seek them out. If they are hidden- I make the choice- whereas if they scream it out so I have no choice that would be annoying.

Morrigoon 07-19-2007 11:56 AM

I've had to completely avoid your spoiler discussion... I don't want to know anything about anything till I read it for myself. If I hear so much as allusions to important scenes, I'll start "watching for" them.

mousepod 07-19-2007 12:04 PM

You think you have it rough. I have to avoid the spoilers until the 7th movie comes out. That's like... 3 years away.

Neither spoiler thread (MC and LoT) gives anything away openly in the posts- but the temptation may prove too much ;)

If your memory is anything like mine, in 3 years, you will have forgotten anyway.

I'm with MG. I've read a lot of them (and half contradict one another so obviously some if not all are wrong) but it won't stop me from enjoying the book. I like to speculate and it's interesting to read what other people think.

I also respect people who don't want to know. I have one friend who's read all the spoilers and one who hasn't. I haven't said anything to the one who hasn't because I know she wants to wait. My other friend and I have had many speculation discussions. I wouldn't want to ruin it for anyone who doesn't want to know. If the thread says spoilers - or honestly if it's even on the subject and I didn't want to know then I'd just avoid those threads, or newspaper articles, or tv shows.

BarTopDancer 07-19-2007 03:18 PM

I don't want to know and I have no intention of listening to the radio/watching tv or by any media until I finish the book. Good thing it comes out on a Friday ;)

Ok i'm not gonna i've kept myself away from the posts and news media til my book arrives. I preordered it today online a little while ago with a gift card from my best friend she sent me this year so it didn't cost me a thing. I'm too lazy to get my ass to the bookstore to preorder it...lmao yes i gave into peer pressure and maybe i'll actually read this Harry Potter book. I've tried to read one of the previous books a summer or two ago but couldn't get into the book but maybe this one i will. So those of you who read it this weekend can discuss i'm gonna stay away from the discussion til i get my book and read it.

Morrigoon 07-19-2007 05:38 PM

Gonna be real quiet around here this weekend...
