Gallery of Regrettable Food

I had not been to Lileks site in a while, the meat book is enough to turn me into a vegetarian. The art of food presentation has changed a lot over the decades.

flippyshark 07-20-2007 09:12 AM

Note to GD and CP - avoid the entry at the bottom of the list entitled "the other other white meat."

Wow, you are right, Snowflake. I'm not so hungry for meat. Actually, I'm no longer hungry for anything. These pages could be the basis for an efffective new diet.

This place might have been worth a road trip, except that I'm allergic to exposure to shag carpeting.

Haha!! :D SzczerbiakManiac turned me on to this site back in the day, and I've been grateful ever since. A friend bought me the book ages ago & every now and then, I'll pull it off of my bookshelf & skim through it. It never, ever gets old and never, ever fails to make me howl laughing! :snap:

Great site. Thanks!

I knew the "Regrettable Food" site had been mentioned before.

Well, shut my mouth! Anyway, it's always worth a revist for something new and inedible.

Kevy Baby 07-20-2007 01:01 PM

I'm sorry Snowflake - I did not meant that as a negative comment. I just had a recollection.

No worries, I was just slapping myself up the head, I should have known this was old news on LoT!

BTW, where is szerbiacmaniac these days? Hope he's okay

lashbear 07-20-2007 01:52 PM

It's one of my favourite sites, actually. I collect old cookbooks featuring a lot of stuff like this. !! :D

As do I! The next time you guys are here, we'll have to make a regrettable food banquet for our fellow LoTers!! :D

I have been given gifts of both the wonderful"Gallery" book as well as the "Interior Desecrations" book (thanks to SM). Neither ever seem to collect any dust in my bookshelves. ;)

Tasty bunnies!

JWBear 07-20-2007 09:41 PM

I actually have an original one of these (It was my Mother's):

alphabassettgrrl 07-20-2007 11:27 PM

Somewhere on his site he had pictures of old Minneapolis which were interesting.

And I love the Gallery of Regrettable food. I need to buy the book.

RStar 07-22-2007 08:24 PM

I love the "Yetti Penis" on the bannana page. I was cracking up! And the Knudsen coments! Priceless! I may have to get the book as well!

Eddited to add: I just ordered it. A lot of what's on the website is not in the book, so you need to have both. I can't wait to break this out at my next dinner party! I'll have left-overs for weeks!!:D

flippyshark 07-22-2007 11:02 PM

Hey lashbear, ever seen one of these? Do any of the recipes call for gelatin?

Edited to add: I'd be up for a regrettable food banquet! :snap: I'll bring the Meatballs in pink goo!! Or perhaps the erect weiners in beans! I can't decide, so much to choose from!! :D

That is just so wrong on so many levels!

And why does Firefox think that "Twinkies" is spelled wrong?!?

JWBear 07-23-2007 06:59 PM

I used to have a friend who referred to cute young men as "Little Debbies" because they were "sweet, tasty little morsels".
