Which Dumbledore Actor is Better & Other HP Discussions **SPOILERS FOR ALL BOOKS**
Starting this thread so those who haven't read the books and have somehow been able to avoid spoilers thus far can avoid the discussions.
Ready Set GO |
Tori got braces today.
:D |
Poor kid! I have sorbet. Does she want some?
|
How do you get people who want to avoid spoilers to click on your thread when the thread is advertising that it contains spoilers?
:D |
She just had ice-cream, which I think may have been a mistake. Her teeth really started to hurt then! She looks really cute, though.
Okay- now, I'm just curious- how can we answer questions if they don't want any spoilers? Sheeesh. |
I want those who don't care about spoilers/want to discuss things that may have happened in book 6 or things from the books be able to do so freely.

I thought you were referring to people who look in threads that clearly state 'spoilers' in general, GC. Just seems to me that any thread that mentions spoilers just might, well, contain some of 'em. Now, if there are any spoilers in the other HP threads, we can move them here and people can follow AT THEIR PERIL!!!!! (Bwahahahha!)
|
Oh, btw- Snape killed Dumbledore.
|
Oh, I am about 3 minutes from FLOODING the LoT with Harry Potter threads!
|
Someone at work brought Guitar Hero 80s Edition. Flock of Seagulls baby... Today was a rockin' library day.
|
Hey Steve,
Would you mind moving all the *potential spoiler* posts over here so no one has anything else ruined for them? If they have lived under a rock and have yet to hear what happens more power to them. Why did you have to go ruin Star Wars for me by bringing up Luke's father??? :( :p |
I have a spoiler from High School Musical. The kid wearing all the hats... totally gay.
:D |
Okay, I'm answering Babette's question here, as it contains spoilers and she doesn't want to know them, but she did ask: Why does everything happen during the school year? I answered as best I could, but left out all the stuff that happens outside of the school and school year in the next few books. I can think of a few- in HBP, there's the Snape/Draco/Black sister's adventure (Spinners End), Dumbledore showing up early and taking Harry on an extended walkabout, and Harry and Co flat out not returning in the last book. Can anyone think of other examples?
|
And heck, if I was still a mod, I'd have combined all the HP threads into one, a long time ago.

Implosion, I suspect. |

I am going to respond to the thread title.
Whenever I read a conversation concerning Dumbledore (trying hard not to spoil anything) I heard it in Richard Harris's voice, not Gambon. While I can appreciate Gambon's acting skill I felt that he was not a superb choice to play Dumbledore. He has too much of an edge, where I feel that Dumbledore is more of a grandfatherly type presence (a grandfather who can kick major ass when needed). |
From my OotP post:
I loved Harris as Dumbledore. I like how Gambon plays Dumbledore. It is very hard to say how I would feel had Harris not died or had Gambon be Dumbledore from the start. Is my preference based upon what was first? What I became attached to? Or better portrayal. |
I love that two actors have played him, for purposes of reading the books. Dumbledore is the ONLY character I don't picture and "hear" as the actor in the film series while I'm reading the novels.
|
I wonder what the opinion would be if all the books had been written/read before the first movie? Would Harris still be a favorite, or would he be too nice? I initially found Gambon to be a bit jarring - although nothing to really complain about - but now I rather like him. Harris was so frail and saintly, and Gambon hints at the depth revealed in book seven.

I don't see Harris doing many of the things Dumbledore does as the books go on. I can see Gambon dealing with Inferi though. |
While Gambon's 'commanding presence' of Dumbledore will be needed for the upcoming movies, who's to say that Harris' Dumbledore wouldn't have achieved the necessary presence?
|
If you mean the 'necessary presence' being comatose, then perhaps you're on to something. ;)
|
A younger, healthier Harris would have been spectacular. We've been re-watching the first two movies, and I am convinced he would not have been able to pull off all that the character requires in the later books. He was simply too frail.

The sled was Rosebud.

I love him. did anyone get to see him do Fiddler? for whatever reason, I cant seem to warp my head around his voice doing "If I were a rich man"
(yes, I meant "warp") |
Michael Gambon smells like Spoilt Milk, but Richard Harris smells like Old Cheese and Worms. I am not sure which I like better.
|
I've always thought that Eric Idle in good age makeup would've made a great Dumbledore!
|
a plot hole in Half Blood Prince has occurred to me - When Bella and Cissy are visiting Snape at Spinners End, he's all wary of Wormtail listening in behind the bookcase, and yet Snape was the one that invented the Muffliato spell !?!?!?!?! Go Figure.
