Wanna help me with work?

I need some non-scientific polling type information for something I'm working on at work. So if you'd be willing to answer these questions I'd find it helpful.

1. How many actual paper checks per month would you say you write on average? (Do NOT include online bill pay services).

2. What is the split between household bill paying and still using them in stores at point of sale?

3. Do you regularly use checks in a way that wouldn't seem to fall under either category in question 2? If so, please share if you're willing.

4. How many accounts do you write checks against?

Thanks for anybody willing to answer.

LSPoorEeyorick 07-27-2007 12:01 PM

1. How many actual paper checks per month would you say you write on average? (Do NOT include online bill pay services).

1-2 checks per month

2. What is the split between household bill paying and still using them in stores at point of sale?

I haven't used a check in a store in years. So, then, 100% bill-paying.

3. Do you regularly use checks in a way that wouldn't seem to fall under either category in question 2? If so, please share if you're willing.

Only if I'm paying a person directly (i.e., paying back for something they bought for me, paying a photographer for their services, etc.

4. How many accounts do you write checks against?

I suppose, in theory, I could use two accounts (my old solo account, and our joint account.) I don't, though, I just use the one.

1. How many actual paper checks per month would you say you write on average? (Do NOT include online bill pay services).

One (rarely two)

2. What is the split between household bill paying and still using them in stores at point of sale?

Only household. Rarely ever POS unless they don't take plastic.

3. Do you regularly use checks in a way that wouldn't seem to fall under either category in question 2? If so, please share if you're willing.

Rarely.

4. How many accounts do you write checks against?

One

Thanks for anybody willing to answer.

1. How many actual paper checks per month would you say you write on average? (Do NOT include online bill pay services).

On average? About 4 to 5. I recently switched to having my auto insurance deducted automatically from my account, so that's one less!

2. What is the split between household bill paying and still using them in stores at point of sale?

I never use checks except for bill paying, although I used one at Costco the other day. I heard however, that they now take credit cards. I stick to good ol' cash or credit cards.

1. How many actual paper checks per month would you say you write on average? (Do NOT include online bill pay services).

Does zero count? One a month is probably pushing it, since it's closer to 6-7 times a year. That may change, however.

I can't say for my household, and I'm in a student demographic right now.

2. What is the split between household bill paying and still using them in stores at point of sale?

My case, perhaps, is unusual. Most of my bill paying, and the bill paying that goes on in my house, is primarily electronic, with the exception of our gas bill, which doesn't have electronic or online bill-pay.

The only thing I use checks for are paying my tuition twice a year, and if I have to buy books at the campus bookstore. Never at a regular store. Just use my ATM card.

3. Do you regularly use checks in a way that wouldn't seem to fall under either category in question 2? If so, please share if you're willing.

Nope.

4. How many accounts do you write checks against?

Just one.

Fees at public schools for two daughters. This runs to probably 10 checks per child per year.

Ooh! Do you ever write embarrassing & obnoxious things in the memo section for your friends? In the past I've written "hush money" and the ever-popular "for sexual favors". :D

Boy, I'm an immature a-hole. Sorry for the derail! Carry on...

As few as possible. For the sake of argument, let's say 1.

Check-by-phone to bill collectors, which I don't believe counts in this survey.

1. How many actual paper checks per month would you say you write on average? (Do NOT include online bill pay services).

Less than one - I've only written five checks since the first of the year (However, Susan pays the bills: I am sure her numbers are higher).

2. What is the split between household bill paying and still using them in stores at point of sale?

3 Household bills and 2 POS

3. Do you regularly use checks in a way that wouldn't seem to fall under either category in question 2? If so, please share if you're willing.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but 2 of the 3 bill checks were done over the phone (I didn't physically give the check to someone - they just took the information over the phone). I don't use checks to pay hookers any more.

4. How many accounts do you write checks against?

One, but we do have savings overdraft to back it up.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-27-2007 04:34 PM

Since my husband does bill paying, I figure his answers are what you'd want. For me it's never ever, don't even carry a checkbook in my bag, barely remember how to fill one out. Ironically, our library doesn't take credit/debit, so we often get the crumpled, forgotten check in the bottom of people's purses.

I do all bill paying and shopping using EFTPOS and Online B-pay, so gave up the chequebook ages ago !

In the rare instance where cash or E-funds won't do, I get a Postal Order from the Post Office.

alphabassettgrrl 07-30-2007 09:55 PM

1- 1-3 actual paper checks a month.

2- The only POS check I remember writing lately was to CostCo and that's only because they don't take regular credit cards. 80% of my checks are written to bill paying, 10% to doctors and dentist, 10% to something else.

3- Other uses- paying back an individual, paying for services to providers who don't take credit cards.

4- One account. We opened a different account but I'm still getting it tweaked so currently we have one functional and one nonfunctional account.

Kevy Baby 07-31-2007 11:08 AM
