Stan4dSteph 07-30-2007 07:07 AM

I hope so. That other one is too big.

blueerica 07-30-2007 07:19 AM

Possibly. But I still like Sooo... I don't know how I feel about it yet. It will depend on others' usage of it.

Im growing the beard back.
I like my beard
I miss my beard

not to mention I hate my face

/shrug

BarTopDancer 07-30-2007 11:17 AM

The wonderful thing about hair - it grows.

Ghoulish Delight 07-30-2007 11:48 AM

I'm committed to keeping mine off at least until my family sees it (which will be in a couple weeks). I still haven't told them and for some reason it makes me laugh every time I have a phone conversation with them to think that they're still picturing me with it.

And now it's been long enough that seeing pictures of myself with the beard is kinda weird. Which is kinda weird.

Capt Jack 07-30-2007 11:58 AM

same here with the pics. however I think my face has way more character with it than without. may or may not be true, but its how it feels. so ... back to fuzz-face for me.

pretty much the consensus was 'you look younger' but unless its going to make me look 20 something again, it really hasnt changed much. and I think it would take wayyy more than a lack of facial hair to do that.

right now it just looks like I forgot to wash my face. besides, its strange seeing my dad looking back at me from the mirror.

katiesue 07-30-2007 12:11 PM

Ok how come for me both here at work and at home the Sooooo thread doesn't open any slower than any other thread?

BarTopDancer 07-30-2007 12:43 PM

The speed is sporadic for me. Some days the last page loads normally, some days it takes forever.

blueerica 07-30-2007 12:48 PM

I rarely have slow-down problems for the Sooo... thread. Maybe microseconds, but not much of one at all.

Morrigoon 07-30-2007 12:58 PM

It's hot.

BarTopDancer 07-30-2007 01:02 PM

I'm freezing in my office. But I am also sunburned so I don't want to go outside.
But I have a hoodie in my car.

Oooo the delimna!!

alphabassettgrrl 07-30-2007 01:24 PM

The "sooo" thread loads the same speed for me as all the other threads. :)

Morrigoon 07-30-2007 01:29 PM

I really want to hit the OC Fair before it closes. I was hoping to go this last weekend, but we ended up going to see the Simpsons movie instead. I'm thinking of going after work some night if anyone cares to join me...?

blueerica 07-30-2007 01:40 PM

I'm so pissed off right now. Ugh!

On my mass marketing midterm, a number of questions were poorly worded. Students have had problems and are contesting them, and the teacher is hearing none of it. We need to find that her answer is wrong from the book. The problem is that it's not the answer that's necessarily wrong, but the phrasing of the question.

The question I am finding a beef with is (something to the effect of):

"Lung cancer as a result of smoking is an externality. True or False?"

I answered false since, in the book, an externality is a social cost of an action. A social cost would be lung cancer as a result of second hand smoke. In my estimation lung cancer as the result of being a smoker is not a social cost, but a personal cost as a result of a choice someone makes.

Now, I don't even need to get the points for the question. It's really just 2 points, which in the long haul means jack squat to me. What I want her to do is to better word the question so that it is more clear. Say second hand smoke - then it's a real externality, not a trick question.

What's getting my goad is that anyone that has gone up to her asking for help or an explanation is met with "Don't talk to me." while she says we need to find it in the book. Such horse manure! The questions were open book and she says she's surprised that so few people got As. Well, no wonder when your questions are written so F-ed up.

GAdjfklasjk!!!!!!!!!!!!

JWBear 07-30-2007 01:45 PM

Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't replace Sooo...!!! Keep it going; I want to see how big it gets! :(

It doesn't load any slower for me, either.

blueerica 07-30-2007 01:48 PM

OK, I guess she's saying it's the social cost of treating people with lung cancer (hospital bills), not the cancer itself. The question still could stand being more clear.

I'm still irritated that she's being so flippant with everyone.

..... and that she's working out twice-a-day, as we were told today, in light of drinking a minimum of four Cokes a day. I wish she'd stop talking about how healthy she's being, when she's just not. OK, I'm just aggravated.

Morrigoon 07-30-2007 01:51 PM

Then she should be more specific. There are two ends to successful communication.

Sorry, but some of us still (gasp) are using dial-up. (For now, anyway. Major computer problems in our home. right now.) It makes LoT difficult to load, but the So.... thread nearly impossible.

flippyshark 07-30-2007 02:26 PM

I have broadband, but the So... thread hangs me up for a good fifteen seconds or so when opening it, and posting to it takes a good long while too.

blueerica 07-30-2007 02:30 PM

Prof just referred to herself as a brand contact for Cal State Long Beach. That her actions are representative of the school. If today was representative (her behavior to her students), I'd have left a long time ago. She's far too batty for me to deal with for more than just one semester.

Edited to add: GAH! She's busy telling us why she's such a great consumer. We're actually done with all the material, but she "doesn't want to cheat us."

Then ask her to provide an example of something that requires medical care that is not a social cost. Smoking is completely irrelevant to whether it is a social cost (though not irrelevant to whether it increases the social cost).

Great point!

I really wish I could have had a chance to do that, but her incessant don't-talk-to-mes really didn't give anyone an opportunity. I'm not going to push the issue further, simply because it won't affect my grade. I have an A pretty much locked for the class (unless I really bomb a test, which is unlikely). I am deciding now whether I should email her, or put it in the review at the end of the semester. She seems like the kind of teacher who might read it.

On my drive home I considered the midterm questions further, and realized that there was a big cultural bias present. We have a number of international students in our business school, and there were a handful of questions that they may not have really 'gotten' on account of the context of their upbringing as well as her unclear wording.

I'm going to go cheer myself up by working on my powerpoint presentation on surrogacy. That group started to gel today, and I don't want to lose the momentum we gained.

AllyOops! 07-30-2007 04:09 PM

I post from my office and rarely from home (theoretically, I shouldn't post from my office, either. For every post I submit I have to tack on extra time at work. I'm supposed to be off at 3:30! Here I am posting on my own time!)

Having said that, the Sooo Thread takes awhile to load, and busy posters trapped in their office need the Laaa thread for faster access thus resulting in faster post time and faster go home time! :D ;)

It's sort of hit or miss on the slow loading too. Sometimes it loads normal, other times it takes for friggin ever. I think the system is trying to sort the pages by the post count choice so it knows where to start.

blueerica 07-31-2007 10:58 AM

I really can't stand Sprint PCS any longer. I noticed that after I called to cancel my account and found out that I had two months left on the contract, they've really ****ed up my services. I can no longer get picture mail or access the internet, yet I'm being charged the same amount. I pay online, and now I get texts and phone calls to my house that my account needs to be paid. Well, no ****. It's due in a couple of days... It's really getting on my nerves.

I went ahead and paid it online just now, and printed everything up, since lately it seems like their online payment system isn't connected to their customer service. I hate doing it over the phone with them, since they get weird and do hard core pressuring to pay the upcoming bill which was just sent out (and I haven't received yet), even though it's not due for at least 4 more weeks.

GRRR..... I can't wait until my contract is up with them. Four weeks!!

I'm actually switching to a pre-paid company that I've heard good things about. Net-10. At the rate I actually use my phone, I will only be spending around $15 a month. I figure that will be good until I'm finished with school. Then I can re-assess my cell phone needs without being under the thumb of a contract.

Morrigoon 08-01-2007 09:55 AM

Read a thing today about the battle between Walletbuster and Netflix. The general opinion (in the investing world) is that Netflix is just hunkering down and trying to wait out Blockbuster's money-losing pricing.

Ghoulish Delight 08-01-2007 10:27 AM

They're doing more than that. We were just reading that they're about to implement some sweeping changes to how their friends network stuff works, turning it into a much broader community. If it turns out as good as the plans make it sound, it should be a major value-add over Lackluster.

Morrigoon 08-01-2007 01:28 PM

All I really ask is that they make searching easier. Maybe give me a choice between broad and refined categories, etc. I don't always know what I want to watch - sometimes I like to browse.

To be fair, their "suggestions" are very helpful in finding new things.

I checked and they have implemented it already. Friends is now called "Community" and it includes, among other things, showing you other users that have similar tastes to yours. It'd be cool to find like-minded movie viewers...

Morrigoon 08-01-2007 01:51 PM

So I've got this new guilty pleasure called "Rock of Love" on VH1. It's another one of those reality dating shows where one guy (in this case a heavy metal rocker whose name escapes me but has beautiful eyelashes) is looking for a girlfriend, so they piled 20 or so women into a house together with him, and they're all competing for his attention all the time. Hilarity ensues.

mostly veggies in the chinese food? I think a lot of the time the cooked veggies start to digest and reduce down a little faster than a more meat and carb based foods, leaving the stomach empty earlier in the cycle.

We were talking about this on Saturday. Chicken is chicken. So why is it, when I eat Chinese food with chicken and veggies I am hungry an hour later, but when I eat grilled chicken with veggies I'm not? Same amount of chicken too.

lizziebith 08-02-2007 03:11 PM

We always theorized it was the bite-sized morselization of the chicken and veggies in Chinese that led to faster digestion. Of course there's always the chewing factor, too...do you chew morsels more thoroughly that sliced-up bits?

Capt Jack 08-02-2007 03:51 PM

I hate that... as opposed to letting it just remain for posterity, they yank it away. :(

Then again, when a change is needed in life, sometimes it's hard to walk away from something without making it not possible to return, or at least that's my experience. Bummed such a cool site was lost to the dramatic ether.

tungsten is a highly durable metal. very light and rigid from my recollection. once shaped, retains said shape very well.

titanium is also a good metal for jewelry from my understanding. even lighter, very heat resistant and has this cool gunmetal grey color to it. tends to be a bit pricey. I had frames for my glasses from titanium for awhile. weighed nothing, but once broken, was nearly impossible to repair.

Well, to me it was obvious, but others may not have picked that up.

I officially hate AT&T right now. I have, no joke, *7* people's names and numbers as contact points picked up over the process of trying to get some stupid numbers forwarded for our offices.

I really enjoy watching Ace of Cakes. Just thought I oughta say it.

cirquelover 08-09-2007 11:02 PM

Did you watch tonights episode? I thought it was cool he was picked to be a judge. I love that show. They make some amazing pieces of art!

Morrigoon 08-09-2007 11:07 PM

Yeah.

Morrigoon 08-13-2007 12:07 AM

Ugh, I can't pull up the Soooo thread for anything tonight :(

In other news... Space cascaded just after we got sent in :) I have video.

blueerica 08-13-2007 12:19 PM

I really need to either bring my book to class on test-return day... I got a couple of questions wrong, and I'm not sure how. It was open book and I wrote the answers out, word-for-word, based on what was in the book. Unfortunately, I now don't have my book here, and she's already started up on her "don't talk to me about anything unless it's a calculation error."

I probably shouldn't bother since I have enough extra credit to shoot me past all the points I need for 100%.

Ugh - we just went through another question... tell me if this sounds like a true or false question:

Another name for the poster-style format is the storyboard layout.
UGH!!

blueerica 08-13-2007 12:32 PM

Oh, I should add that I considered it a true or false question. I guess that half the people got it wrong (including myself) because we left it at that.

Ghoulish Delight 08-13-2007 12:38 PM

Is that the whole question?

blueerica 08-13-2007 12:44 PM

Yes - I was thinking - she probably wanted us to write down the other term, since we had it open book. I don't know... she's just so vague. The other questions are equally as vague as to what she wants.

She's a headstrong ding-bat. She's talking about how she's loooooving all the mailers and door-hangers for the new area in Tustin... The District? She's nice. Just... ugh.

Ghoulish Delight 08-13-2007 12:46 PM

Wow, that's horrible. She doesn't actually know what words mean, does she?

I'd be sending email to the department on a weekly basis if I had tests like that.

blueerica 08-13-2007 12:46 PM

She said Alzheimer's right the first time... since then, she's been calling it Old Timers... but more like "alltimers"

gadfaks!

blueerica 08-13-2007 12:47 PM

Oh, and apparently she gets these from the book? I was looking at the answer sheet she printed out from the book, the questions are rated easy, hard, etc... so this may be just as much a fault of the publishers who created the test questions.

Wow.

blueerica 08-13-2007 12:48 PM

Gadfaks!

For all the fashion trends Sex and the City pushed forward, I'm glad that the spangly fanny pack went nowhere.

Anyone else going to the Mickey Halloween thing on October 12th? We're going - not because of the MA thing, but because it's the day we can go while we're in town.
