Today's second notable death - Tom Snyder
I used to enjoy staying up late and watching Tom Snyder. I particularly relish the memory of his interview with a rude and cantankerous Johnny Rotten.
|
I loved Tom Snyder (and UI loved Dan Ackroyd's take on him, as well)
he was crusty and a lot of fun to watch. |
I remember reading an article on Train travel while riding Amtrak by him. Also he had a pretty cool TV interview with Ward Kimball at his home. They were Playing with all of Mr. Kimball's toy train collection. I believe this is on YouTube.
He may have been a cranky guy, but he sure met a lot of interesting people. |
He was a late night staple for me when I was a teen. I adored him.
|
I had never heard of him until the Late Late Show (his earlier talk shows were well before my time) but I enjoyed him quite a bit.
I'm really surprised to learn that he was only 71 since I would have put him around that age when Late Late Show was one. |
After Ackroyd skewered him, it could be tough to watch him and not start laughing but I always thought he was very good at what he did. I often wondered what had happened to him. A sad loss, indeed.

As is frequently the case, Mark Evanier has nice comments.

Where's Tom Snyder and Wendy O Williams?

Check it out |
I remember so many of those! Tom was way cool.
|
Weird, I have no idea who Wendy O. Williams is but yours is the second mention of her I've read in the last hour (a short story in this month's Atlantic mentions her, so I know she is music related).

That girl knew how to wear her electrical tape
|
She was good with explosives, too
