Is this really appetizing?

OK, I admit that I haven't enjoyed alcohol beverages for quite some time, but I can appreciate much of the cocktail talk that goes on here at LoT.

However, today when I stopped at my local 7-11 to grab a Coke and Honest Tea, I noticed this in the case:

While I was taking the above picture (because I couldn't believe such a disgusting product existed), another patron said "Oh yeah. Bloody Beer. I like mixing it myself, though."

So drinkers: is this appetizing?

I know this drink as bloody beer. Never had it myself because I've never suffered the condition under which I most people I know drink it: as a hair of the dog cure for a hangover.

Snowflake 08-08-2007 01:18 PM

Um, no, not at all. Ew.

katiesue 08-08-2007 01:23 PM

I say gross but yes have heard of it as a hair of the dog drink. Although not pre-packaged. But hey you do get to choose between Bud or Bud Light.

My grandfather's choice was beer in orange juice - also gross.

BarTopDancer 08-08-2007 01:24 PM

Bleh.

Alex 08-08-2007 01:28 PM

I once mixed a beer with my gin & tonic on a dare and it actually wasn't all that bad. Certainly made beer more palatable.

Ghoulish Delight 08-08-2007 01:29 PM

Dude I saw this somewhere recently too...and quickly averted my eyes. Yikes.

DreadPirateRoberts 08-08-2007 01:39 PM

It may be a cultural thing:

Quote:

STAMFORD, CONN.--Mott's clamato brand and Anheuser-Busch partner for a Hispanic promotion themed, "Es Hora de Celebrar" (It's time to celebrate), that marks Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16. The effort builds on the popularity of red beer, a blend of Clamato and beer, which Hispanics consume at parties, festivals and family gatherings.

AllyOops! 08-08-2007 01:47 PM

Oofah!

I rarely drink these days and when I do, it's a maximum of two cocktails and no more. I also stick to drinks like margaritas. Most people here can attest to the fact I'm like, the world's worst drunk and I cannot hold my liquor. My late blossoming partying days were no joy, that's for sure.

Having said that, I'm not wasting a special drinking occasion on malted clamato or whatever the hell that is. Grody.
:(

Alex 08-08-2007 01:50 PM

Thinking about it, I must say the only reason I find it unappetizing is because it is tomato juice. If it were carrot juice I'd be willing to give it a try.

3894 08-08-2007 01:51 PM

And to go with ...

, n'est-ce pas?

Capt Jack 08-08-2007 01:52 PM

I think I'd rather drink Prestone

pass

lashbear 08-08-2007 01:52 PM

May I say: "Only in America...... Thank God!"

We don't even have Clamato here - which I like in a Bloody Mary or a soup, but with Beer..........

Time to resurrect that good old word: Yammy.

I bet this is the case... the Bud light tin has the words "With salt and lemon" in Spanish underneath the word "Clamato" - so does the other, I think.

Haha! Chicken in a Biskit and Beermato!!

I'm already planning a soiree in my mind... how does "AllyOops!'s White Trash Hoe Down & Such" sound?
And it's BYOP (bring your own Pabst).

;) :p

Only if you serve it with the appropriate squeese cheese - the bacon flavored one of course.

Motorboat Cruiser 08-08-2007 02:14 PM

Years ago, when I was in Denver, I noticed that a very popular request at bars is for beer and tomato juice, although I can't remember the name they used.

I tried it, it wasn't horrible, but I would never order one for myself.

blueerica 08-08-2007 03:02 PM

Blech! That does *not* look appetizing... and I like tomato juice and beer... just separate. Not that I'd object to trying it, it just seems pretty far off the point for having a beer. Hair of the dog that bit me is a full-blown Bloody Mary. Or a martini. Or a gin & tonic. If I'm that bad off, I'm going all the way, none of this beer & tomato juice business!

SacTown Chronic 08-08-2007 03:08 PM

I've only seen Hispanics drink Clamoto and beer.

And that Fat Tire on the right looks very appetizing.

CoasterMatt 08-08-2007 03:34 PM

It's like drinking redneck afterbirth

Kevy Baby 08-08-2007 04:33 PM

Well, considering I won't even drink regular Bud

Only if you mix it with tomato juice.

alphabassettgrrl 08-08-2007 08:40 PM

I've heard it just called Red Beer but who had the idiot idea to combine those two items??? Got to be careful what you combine with tomato juice... and beer.

I find it so much more effective to drink the bloody beer, eat the vegemite & headcheese sandwich, then take a few runs on the Mission Beach Rollercoster.

:D

CoasterMatt 08-08-2007 09:42 PM

The vegemite & headcheese sandwich, deep fried and served with a generous helping of sauerkraut...

Prudence 08-08-2007 09:55 PM

I think kimchi would be a better accompaniment.

Which I'm now close to doing, thank you very much! ;)

lashbear 08-08-2007 10:06 PM

I'm thinking of lovely Pink Pepto Bismol right now.

Hmmmm.....I wonder what it's like mixed with Bud?

Ya, I don't like clams swimming around in MY beer.......

Cadaverous Pallor 08-09-2007 07:54 AM

The first few times I saw a billboard for this beer, I thought it said "Miller Chili". Ew.

Me, too! Only it's every time I drive by it, I read "Miller Chili" and I think about chili powder and beer. 1/2 second later, I realize for the nth time that, no, it says "Miller Chill".

I really hate that billboard.

Capt Jack 08-09-2007 08:11 AM

man rule: dont fruit the beer

tomato is a fruit
clam in beer is just backward. you pour beer into the pot with the clams not vice versa

beer should be beer, unless of course its ale.

quit effin' with beer.

Well, it is green like a jalapeno. Can you say "DUH!" advertising people?

Besides, Miller Chili is yammy from the other end after a long night of drinking Miller Chill......
