My mix tape from hell might include:
- A medley of the most common wedding or event songs (YMCA, the Chicken Dance, that stupid Gary Glitter "Heeeeyy!" song. They all irritate me into fits.)
- "You Had A Bad Day" - I don't even know who sings this, but I have conniptions every time it comes on, which is just about every time I go into a public place.
- "I Don't Want To Wait" by Paula Cole - Yes, this was in the video linked in the original post. Funny thing is, I liked a lot of the other songs on the album this came from, but, on first listen, I remember thinking, "Wow, this song is awful, which means it will be the hit single from this otherwise interesting CD." I was right. My biggest peeve - "Say a little prayer for I" What? A little prayer for I!?! Ack!
"Breakfast at Tiffany's" - Again, I don't know who brought this tiresome earworm into existence, but it needs to go back to whatever hell it came from. About a decade ago, you simply could not get away from this damned song. (I'm cool with Moon River, on the other hand.)
"Walking On Sunshine" Katrina and the Waves - Don't it feel good? No, it sure don't.
"Sleigh Ride" - This holiday perennial gets a bah humbug from me no matter which of the zillion versions I hear beginning about September 25th each year. Special bonus agony for the boppy Debbie Gibson version.
Mambos as a category (but especially "Papa Loves Mambo" and the relentless "Mambo #5")
Just to set my mind into a positive groove again, let me end by naming a song I love. "Marquee Moon" by Television. Aaaah, that's better.
