Although I'm a complete & total animal lover (animals are my absolute passion), and even though I'm really no fan of snakes, was it necessary to pin the snake and use a shovel to decapitate it? Isn't that an animal control issue or are the rules different on a ranch where you have to act fast in order to protect your horses? Isn't there a better, humane option or am I just a dumb city girl?
Either way, poor snake. That just seems cruel. Oddly enough, we got into the decapitation-body-still-movin' convo last night. My boyfriend was watching 300 when I arrived at his place, and there's an especially gruesome decapitation scene. It's really rather disturbing to see the spartan's head hit the ground as his body still stands, until eventually bending and dropping. Oof. :( |
Great. Now I know what I'm dreaming about tonight.
|
Oh dear, Helen... I take it you're not a fan of (Decapitated) Snakes On A Plane?

nah, even for an intentionally dumb movie, it surpassed itself by leagues

Ah, yes. This was the other big story of the day here. Between this and the bikini espresso girls, we're quite the news mecca today.

What can I say, you live in a slick town.
|
Hey, I brought up decapitation here on the LoT yesterday.
But that's okay, no one pays attention to me anyway..... ;) |
Huh.... oh sorry I thought I heard someone

Any thread about head gets a lot of views around here...

We once had to decapitate a baby ratteler that ended up on our farm in Hilmar (it came out of a trailer we had brought from a house in the mountains). That thing was still snapping in the jar an hour later.
And Ally, there is no other way to do it. If you don't pin it it will strike. If you just let it go you won't ever know where it went and everyone, human and animal, will be in danger of being bitten. On a farm there are just too many places for a snake to hide. |

I heard chickens will run around with out their heads, do you put the heads in a jar and watch them cluck for an hour, too?? ;) |
Ummm... No, but I did have to help clean the bird after.
We had the head in one jar and the body in another to take it to the fire dept to make sure it was really a ratteler. They weren't indigenous to the area and gopher snakes will imitate them when threatened and even grow buttons on their tails. This was before we had figured out where it came from. |
