Disneyland Half Marathon and 5K

Good luck to katiesue, swanie and daughters on the 5K! You can do it!

Also good luck to "He who no longer posts" on running the show.

I can't wait to hear how it was. You locals should go cheer on our LoTers. As a participant in other races, it really is a ton of fun to have people cheering for you.

katiesue 08-29-2007 02:06 PM

Thanks Steph. Swanie has been training like mad. The KatieSue household - erm not so much but we're going to have fun.

Thank you so much! We're all really excited in the Swanie Household. We're packing up tomorrow and heading out early Friday morning. We'll be staying on property this go around, so if anyone is brave enough to come to the parks this weekend...please post or PM us!

Oh, this is really soon! Have FUN! :)

We survived. Yay. It was a gazillion degrees out at 7 AM and after schelping from the Disneyland Hotel over to the Timon lot for the start I was already tired.

We had so much fun. The over achiever Swanies actually ran the whole thing. Maddy and I did fast paced walking whilst photographing everything. Besides my grumbling about the need to outlaw strollers in the event we didn't have any problems.

The course took us from Timon, through the tramway into the Esplanade, into Disneyland to the right and then backstage by the hat shop on Main street, around backstage emerging between Pizza Port and Innoventions, around the Matterhorn up to Small World then backstage again behind Fantasyland emerging between Fantasyland and Big Thunder Ranch, then through Fantasyland and the castle into Frontierland, around through Adventureland and down Main Street, back out through the Esplanade and into DCA, through Hollywood then backstage behind Tower and back into Bugs Land, around through by Soarin' and GRR, around pier and then back out backstage by the Tortilla Factory to the finish line.

We have no idea what our times were as I forgot my watch and we were so far back at the start line it took us about 8 minutes after the start to actually get there.

The funnest part for us were the cast members spaced out all along the route cheering us on and the characters some of which you don't see often. Maddy said at one point "isn't it great that the put the characters out just where you need them?" We stopped and took photos with some (obviously we weren't in it for the win when we're taking character photos). Clarabelle wouldn't let us though which kinda sucked but oh well.

We speed walked the whole way, didn't get swept (which was our lofty goal) and had a blast. We'll definitely do it again. The heat sucked but we made it through fine.

Walking back (couldn't they have at least had a shuttle) from Timon to the Hotel Disneyland was just opening. Maddy said lets go so in we went and had the photopass people take our pictures with our plastic Medals and numbers.

For the 5K Family Run yes, plastic. For the half marathon which was this morning no, theirs were metal.

Alex 09-03-2007 10:53 AM

Ah, I missed that part. The also explains the different course (I thought you were just describing the beginning).

swanie 09-04-2007 04:52 PM

The Swanie family has made it back to even toastier AZ

All I can say is, man did we have an awesome time. I ran the whole race with Lil' Swanie and she absolutely rocked! I can't tell you how proud of her I am. We finished in a side-by-side sprint to the finish in 39:40. The 3.1 miles we ran doesn't include the extra mile(s) we spent zigzaging through the throngs of walkers and strollers. I doubt we had more that 20 paces in a straight line for the whole race. For us trying to run jog/run the race, it really was more of an obstacle course with a little jogging thrown in.

Besides being ungodly hot for even us AZ people, we had such a blast. Lil' Swanie must have told me "Mom, this is the best birthday EVER" about 20 times on Sunday. And to top if off, she proudly wore her "My Mommy runs faster than your Mommy" t-shirt after the race. In fact, she had the AP photo person get the t-shirt and her DL Happy Birthday pin in her new AP photo!

For a kid that was really nervous about running a 5K, I think she has the bug now. She's already asked to run the Iron Girl 5K here in December, and I'm going to try the Race for the Taste 10K at Epcot in October!

I very happy for all of you who ran/walked. I'm also happy I was in AC for most of that day (and the ones surrounding it). ;)

lindyhop 09-04-2007 09:04 PM

Congratulations to everyone. It sounded like fun. Sort of.

You're awesome for taking part.:snap:

BarTopDancer 09-04-2007 09:32 PM

Gemini Cricket 09-04-2007 09:38 PM

Nice job, y'all.
:)

Congrats.

RStar 09-04-2007 10:41 PM

Yes, great job to all who turned out!

Even with the heat, if you worked out- it was no sweat, right:D ?!

ultramm 09-05-2007 08:46 PM

Great job to all who survived the heat!

NickO'Time 09-06-2007 02:06 AM

The Team in Training group always has such a great program for someone interested in finishing a marathon. I have heard nothing but positive stories from clientèle I have helped with food supplements. I would love the time and opportunity to try it out.

Stan4dSteph 09-06-2007 01:04 PM

Great job. Congrats and thanks for ther reports! :)

TicToc, I'm doing TNT for the second time this year and agree that it's a great program.

katiesue 09-06-2007 01:14 PM

Silly Swanie has apparently lost her mind in the heat and has now signed up for the Race for the Taste 10K.

innerSpaceman 09-06-2007 01:28 PM

I can barely run to the bathroom.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-06-2007 01:40 PM

Congrats all!

Yes it is true...I'm officially off my rocker. My Race for the Taste 10K registration went out in the mail today. The way I look at it, this is great release for my hyperactive-uber-competitive self.

Who knows, if this insanity continues maybe I'll even try the DL half-marathon next year. :D

If you do, I'll sacrifice a goat for cooler weather! :D

We managed to get our hands on a few photos from the race...

I'm having a bit of Mommy guilt for not putting up a picture of Lil' Middle Swanie. She ended up running in the kiddie race too, but she must have been too fast for the photographers :)

Here's all 3 Swanies from a couple of months ago...

and here's one one from Goofy's Kitchen after the race...

Notice katiesue's amazonian genes in Madz. Believe it or not, Madz is only about a year and a half older than Lil' Swanie :D
