Pavarotti in "very serious condition"

Actual headline from my yahoo home page:

Quote:

Tenor Pavarotti dead at 71, manager says

Pavarotti's health has deteriorated and the 71-year-old singer is in a "very serious condition", Italy's AGI news agency reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed sources. (Claro Cortes IV/Reuters)

Tref 09-05-2007 10:47 PM

Of all the serious conditions one can be in, death is the definitely the most serious.

flippyshark 09-05-2007 10:49 PM

Addio Luciano!

I am tearfully sorry to post this news. Luciano Pavarotti is dead at 71.

The very definition of "larger than life," and even though that implies a bit of a joke, it's true. It's hard to imagine there will ever be another figure in classical music with his popularity, warm persona and unbelievable crossover appeal.

Isaac 09-05-2007 10:49 PM

He was then taken to a better hospital and his condition was upgraded to living.

Although personally, I'd be more concerned with imminent death. Afterwards? Not so much.

flippyshark 09-05-2007 10:53 PM

D'oh! That wasn't there when I started posting this thread. (I don't think)

Anyhow, I had read of his serious condition earlier this week, so this wasn't unexpected. Just awfully sad.

innerSpaceman 09-05-2007 10:58 PM

Unfortunately, it appears his condition has actually been downgraded to death.

So sorry.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-05-2007 11:00 PM

I heard he passed away and eventually died...

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-05-2007 11:03 PM

Anyway, it's a true loss to the music world.

I don't think you can say the word "Opera" without thinking of the mans face and voice.

Snowflake 09-05-2007 11:10 PM

You know, I can't quite believe it. The King of the High C's - gone. :(

He was the first opera singer I saw (and a concert at the Bowl with him dates the last time I was at the Bowl). Everything about him was bigger than life, the man, the ego and that gift from the heavens which won him fame, that incredible voice.

He was mercurial, kind and generous with his time, his talent and his many charities. He brought music to the far corners of the earth and all was done with such joie de vivre. I feel really blessed to have heard him here in SF, at the Met and in various concert venues, even when he sang dreck (like the 3 tenors thing) he was still magical. RIP Luciano, addio, senza rancor.

I heard it was the other way around.

Morrigoon 09-05-2007 11:16 PM

OMG! That sucks!

RStar 09-05-2007 11:27 PM

very sad. He was a legend and will be missed.

No so much by me, as I hate opera.

Isaac 09-05-2007 11:30 PM

We're gonna need another Billly Pavarotti !

wendybeth 09-05-2007 11:36 PM

He's just pining.....

Sorry- couldn't resist.

I hear Enrico Caruso hasn't been feeling too good either.

Gn2Dlnd 09-06-2007 07:50 AM

Caruso's condition has been reported as grave.

Kevy Baby 09-06-2007 09:01 AM

If Enrico Caruso were alive today, he would be wondering, "Why is it so dark in here?"

Not if he were in his original glass sarcophogus, Caruso was on full view for several years (and apparently embalmed very well and looked good, as good as can be for a dead guy) Similarly, when Douglas Fairbanks Jr was interred at Hollywood Forever, he's in the Fairbanks crypt with his Dad, Doug Sr. A friend of mine worked for HF then and was there when they opened the crypt/sarcaphogus and the examined Doug Sr. and he looks as if they just planted him (he died in 1939, btw). Yet another piece of weird and useless trivia lurking in my brain.

Now, back to Pavarotti, an excellent assesment of him can be found here

Oh fine: I write a mirthful post and you have to go and destroy the frivolity of it with facts. I would never do anything like that - nope, never!

:D :D :D

These things always happen in threes. First Caruso, then Beverly Sills, now Pavarotti. So much for the world of opera.

Morrigoon 09-06-2007 11:24 AM

Jeez, next thing you're going to tell me is that all the castrati are dead...

I can't help but smile over this thread title. Very serious indeed!

Kevy Baby 09-06-2007 10:54 PM

Is he feeling any better yet?

BarTopDancer 09-06-2007 10:56 PM

He's dead tired.

Funny, yet wrong. Very wrong.
