Trail of the Screaming Forehead

So, here's the deal. It's a B-movie. Directed by the same guy who did the cult favorite The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, which some of you may know.

A very good friend is in charge of filling up seats at the L.A. one-night-only premiere next Thursday, September 20th at 8:00 pm. You can buy tickets through Fandango (http://www.fandango.com/trailofthesc...ate=9/20/2007), and general admission tickets are $10.00.

I'm helping her to do some shameless promotion...

There will be a QA with cast and crew following the screening.

TRAIL OF THE SCREAMING FOREHEAD, 2007, 84 min. Dir. Larry Blamire. At long last--the eagerly-awaited follow-up to THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA! Shot in glorious color and the new screen miracle CraniaScope, it's the spine-tingling story of a small coastal town besieged by foreheads from outer space, intent on taking over our planet; imagine INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS directed by Douglas Sirk (only funny, of course) and you've got it. Presented by none other than Ray Harryhausen, it features stop-motion work by the Chiodo Brothers, some very cool cameos, and a haunting title song performed by The Manhattan Transfer! With Brian Howe, Dan Conroy, Andrew Parks, Fay Masterson. Plus: Surprise Larry Blamire Shorts (9 min.).

I'm definitely going to be there, and I believe Heidi and Russell (Boss Radio) will be in attendance as well.

I'm a'comin'!

And looking forward to it.

Presented by Harryhausen! I so wish I could go. :(

flippyshark 09-13-2007 07:00 PM

I would so be there if I were a west coaster. I thought Lost Skeleton was a major hoot.

Did you catch the Harryhausen interview over at The Animation Podcast?

Sounds great!

I can't seem to get tickets on Fandango - are you sure they're already on sale (I hope it's not sold out already).

Got 'em. Apparently Fandango is smarter than me.

Cadaverous Pallor 09-14-2007 08:09 AM

Theoretically, I could go. Greg can't. I have no work the next day....

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 09-14-2007 12:35 PM

Tehoretically, I think you should join us. JOIN US. JOIN US. ONE OF US. ONE OF US.

Yes, I tried to link directly to the purchase page, but it bounces you to an earlier screen. Ah, well. Ticket purchased, as well. Thanks for coming along.

LSPoorEeyorick 09-19-2007 04:37 PM

Anybody else comin'? Do you have your tickets yet??

Ghoulish Delight 09-19-2007 04:38 PM

I believe CP bought a ticket.

I am so disappointed that EH couldn't make it! :(

That movie was so much fun. A perfect homage to 1950's nuclear/space scare flicks but done in super-saturated primary technicolor style (in HD with a digital projector, ahhhh). I wish imdb had some better quotes, since the writer had a fantastic way of twisting well-worn phrases into looping redundancies. The writing was hilarious, gorgeous sets and buildings of the era, great campy performances.

Variety wrote this up and it says it better than I do:

The not-quite-right names, nonsensical plot turns and belabored pseudo-scientific gibberish are all nicely tuned, capturing the know-nothing ethos of Eisenhower-era filmmakers angling to cash in on events (and better movies) they only vaguely understood.
There was a Q&A which made me super jealous of indi filmmakers and all the fun they have hiring friends to be a part of their projects. If only we knew someone with real cash....;)

Oh, and here is one of the shorts shown before the film. The Tales from the Pub series was created for YouTube by the same people as Forehead, including the actors.

I hung out with mousepod, the TodiMooers, and Boss Radio afterwards for a snack and shmooze. MP and BR having a go at the history of cinema at the same table is quite a thing to witness, and I am an avid student at the feet of the masters.

Great fun! :D

Almost forgot - cameo by Kevin McCarthy, whom I know best as the bad guy in UHF. :D
