Trick Birthday Candles Cool or Evil?

Even though my Birthday party is not until tomorrow, my mom baked me my favorite pie yesterday and I got to blow out candles. Unfortunately they were the trick candles. I don't like them at all. They crackle and spark and make me think that something is going to explode in my face. Not that a face full of pie would be bad, it's the loud noise I don't want. Needless to say trick Birthday candles make me nervous.

So what do you think? Am I just plain nuts?

Trick Birthday Candles Cool or Evil?

Old. Though I admit I always laugh when they're used.

But I am reminded of when the trick birthday candle factory burned down. The fireman had to come back three times to put out the fire!

Thank you and goodnight!

Good, and evil.

My wife used THIRTY of them on my cake one year. They set off the smoke alarm and covered the top of the cake with wax.

Good times I tell ya, good times.

Awesomely evil. No one's used trick candles on me, that I'm aware. Or else they just weren't very good trick candles. Nothing really seems to stick out in my mind about them as a personal experience.

My Dad thought they were hilarious when I was a kid, I did not.

On the other hand it's better than the candle I got from the boys last year, it played the death march! The adult boy is as bad as the little one and this is what happens when they put their heads together:eek:

Shiny Fire!!

But alas, evil.....

And you can see them coming a mile a way with the sparking. That's when I don't blow them out, I spit on them. Then I get all the cake to myself. I'm evil, too!

Trick Candles - Cool
Roman Candles - Evil (but fun!)

;)

And FYI - Sparklers on the cake look pretty but they render the top inediable.

And I love trick candles. :D

No wonder my brother kept making jokes about spitting when the pie came out. I didn't get that until now. I asked him to blow them out for me. I get a cake tomorrow and will make my "Official wish" then: I know I can't tell anyone what that wish is or it won't come true but anyone who knows me very well already knows what it is.

I like fire better than cake, so I choose cool.

Here's what a birthday cake and candles should look like :)

alphabassettgrrl 09-20-2007 11:57 PM

Hahah!! Put me down with the pyro camp. :) I've never had to deal with trick birthday candles though. :)

Hey, Cm, my coworker just applied to work USH Hallowe'en Haunt as a stagehand. He's hoping to get on for real and to use this to get his foot in the door.

RStar 09-21-2007 07:13 AM

That cake makes me long for the real sparklers on the volcano desert at Rainforest Cafe in DtD. They just put a mylar thingy on top and call it sparkly. Dang fire laws........

Cadaverous Pallor 09-21-2007 10:10 AM

I'm a pyro, but I'm no fan of trick candles. The sparking gives it away, but then you're still supposed to try blow them out like a tool, and everyone gets to laugh at you for sucking at something that's impossible. Longer time blowing also means more wax in my frosting - and that's just crappy.

I'd like my next bday cake to have that Indiana Jones fireball effect. Whoosh!

AllyOops! 09-21-2007 10:49 AM

You can toss a grenade into a birthday cake, just make sure that I get all of the colorful icing roses off of the top first. Those are so delicious! I don't like the "bready" part of cake. Just the icing, please. No grown-up cakes, I'll take the ones loaded with roses & toys. :D

Considering most adults luge at the sight of those roses usually means an easy score for AllyOops!. :snap:
