Yes, good point. Most important thing to remember about Boston...traffic signals are mere suggestions and have no real relation to actual traffic.

Weird. I spent a couple hours looking at Boston info on the Internet last night. I doubt I'd actually go (I don't think you can take the girl out of California) but BC has a Master's program that I'd loooove to take.

Sorry, I don't have any actual useful info to impart. It's just that Boston has been popping up a lot lately for me.

A friend of mine lived there for 4 years while she was attending the Berkley School of Music. She really fell in love with the place and I was surprised because she was a born and raised California girl. The snow got to her a bit but she loved being in close proximity to NYC.

Boston is a great city. As a once and future New Yorker, I can say that Boston (and Cambridge) are great places to hang out. Plus, it's a groovy home base for road and train trips. Portland, New Haven, Providence, New York and Philly are all within a few hours. You've got Cape Cod in the Summer, Vermont in the Fall (the leaves, man, the leaves) and when Winter rolls around, point your car due south and head to Orlando!

And it is here that I shamefully admit that I haven't been to Boston, or any of Massachusettes....

Yeah, here I am going on about the close proximity to NY, yet I lived on Long Island for almost 15 years and never visited Boston. Didn't even visit DC until I was living on this coast. It's funny how you can live so close to something and never take the opportunity to check it out.

Yeah, I think that happens, which brings me back to the Watts Towers thread.

I hear Boston's cold in the winter. That's all I've got.

It's cold, the traffic is terrible, and there's nowhere to "paaak the caaaah" (as iSm so accurately put it). Boston's a walkin' town.

You couldn't pay me enough to move back to New England, but a lot of people love love love it up there. A good friend of mine lives there, and she seems to like it a lot.

I wasn't able to be online too much today. I was out cruising the aquarium...

Ralphie has a job offer from Harvard to assist in running a lab there. We went to Boston and checked it out for a week. I liked it. Although, I think I had a weird perspective of it. It was during the World Series. Everyone was happy and friendly, which according to the locals was unusual for Boston. ;)

We're moving in July shortly after DL's 50th B-Day.

It will be for two years and then what comes next is up in the air. We're looking into possible careers for Ralphie in California. We like San Diego... We'll see. Until then, I'm gonna be a Bostonian.

That is unless Dave Matthews or Jake Gyllenhaal proposes to me before then. Which in any case, we'd have to go to Boston to get hitched.

The traffic is horrible. I witnessed lanes merge into one around the Big Dig and there were no cones, policemen or any sense of order. Cars were facing all directions to get to that one lane. Very scary. We'll be walking a lot and taking the T.

Anyway, if you have any more input on Boston, please drop me a note here. I'd greatly appreciate it. My sister's new fiance's family lives in Boston. So, in a way, I'll have some sort of family there...



How excited am I that John Kerry and Teddy are going to be my Senators? My goal is to meet one or both of them. If I arrive with porkchops, Teddy might come to me. :D

I can't say that I know what it is I want to be when I grow up. ;)

Hmm let's see... I've worked for McDonald's, the Honolulu Police Dept, the Board of Water Supply (for all of 1 day), the Wherehouse, Chapman University's Film Dept, Hollywood Center Studios, RichMel Productions, ModernVideoFilm, Dreamworks, Consolidated Movie Theatres, Avalon Art Services, Bank of Hawai'i, UH Credit Union, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Service Systems Associates and the Monterey Bay Aquarium again... Not to mention all the volunteer work I have done for at least 20 or so theatres in my lifetime.
I've been everything except a Xmas elf at Macy's.
I can't say that I'm focused on anything in particular. But if y'all have any ideas on a career for me, I'd love to hear it. We could open a thread on it. :D


Boston is happening for me because I want it to, zappp. I appreciate the concern, but I've always wanted to live on the East Coast. It's closer to WDW, NY, London and Paris than Hawaii or CA is... Think of the possibilities. :)

Boston's a lot of fun--can't give you specifics, as it's been a while. Been there twice as an adult and loved loved loved it.

Almost everyone I know in Portland has some connection to Boston. I think we have an underground Portland/Boston light rail train or something. Many people I know went to college in Boston, then moved here, then moved back to Beantown, then back here. Or vice versa. We have two separate friends (they don't know each other) who have left for Boston this year.

I can't imagine a New England winter, though. That would be hard for me....but beautiful, nonetheless.

I can just imagine you in an orange curly wig, a red dress, Frodo by your side, standing on the steps of the Massachusetts Capitol Building surrounded by the democrats, singing like Annie, "I'm think I'm GONNA like it here!!!!" :D

I got to the 'red wig' part and started thinking 'where's she going with this one...?' :D

I've always wanted to live in a big walking city. I love the idea of taking the subway. Very cool. We're trying to figure out the best places to live. Cambridge, South End and Beacon Hill (yeah, right) are in the running of possible places...

I love Cambrige. Harvard Square is a great place to hang out. Being on the river is nice. Maybe you could take up skimming.

From what I've seen so far, Boston can be a pretty swanky town. There are lots of clubs to go dancing at, museums, lots of great places to eat and then there's that whole marriage thing. Although, I don't see no ring on this finger.

I'm hoping I find my muse in Boston. I used to write a lot when I was in Hawai'i and LA. Monterey just didn't inspire me. I don't know. Everyone here is obsessed with Clint Eastwood, John Steinbeck and Julie Packard. It's kinda boring to hear about these folks over and over again... "Oh, you're a writer, do you like John Steinbeck? Oh, you like movies, do you know Clint? Oh, you're an activist, is that why you work for Packard?"

There are so many places I want to see in this world and the area I will be in will get me closer to that. But, like my best friend told me last night, if it doesn't work out, you can always come back to LA. And, that's true, too.

I'll still be on the boards, I'll just be getting up earlier than y'all. Or, knowing me, I'll be getting up at the same time as y'all. Or at least the y'all on the West Coast. I'll have to start emphasizing which coast from now on.

Politically Portland and Boston couldn't be more similar, too. I think that's why they're so simpatico and attract so many of the same types of people. Except sleepyjeff. I'm not sure how he ended up here. :evil:

I heard from a friend of mine that we're going to have to get Frodo booties for his paws. Apparently, the salt they put on the ice could be detrimental to his pads. :D That's funny. He'll never go for that.
I also heard that we're going to have to get him a sweater, too. Maybe I should take a knitting night course.

Okay, I'm bringing this threaed back from the dead. I'm heading to Boston tomorrow for the U2 concert at FleetCenter. Yes, driving in, but parking at the hotel I'm staying (probably Radisson near Boston Common). I'm prepared for crap conditions.

So what is this tapas place Chris? Is it Dali's? I read about that one, but it's up in Cambridge, which is a bit far for me to go.

Anyone else have recommendations for moderately priced eateries (cost per person <$20)? Any other food recs. I can file away for the future?

Legal Seafood has great food and it's not expensive. We ate there twice when we visited. They have a number of locations.

I think this is the place. I've also ate at Legal Seafood and had an enjoyable time there.
