New Stuff October
 

Halloweentime at Disneyland is the exact same as last year. Ho-boring-Hum.


But DCA got a really cute thing for it's pathetic sun plaza ... a candy corn farm that's absolutely adorable. A Heimlich animatronic inhabits a Giant Candy Corn that looms over a charming farm of watermelon candy corns, pumpkin candy corns, corn candy corns and other crop candy corns. The ubiquitous Halloween candy dangles from palm trees like coconut corns. It's delightful!


Also new (to me at least) is the new lighting on the Waterfalls below the Bonita Tower - oh, excuse me, the WONDER Tower at the Disneyland Hotel. It's about a 22-minute loop. Subtle color changes capped by a frenzied light show of rainbow psychedelia! It's teh awesome.

I would very much like to see this giant Candy Corn - perhaps I can drop by tomorrow after work

This isn't really related to giant candy corn, but if someone who goes to see the candy corn would like to take a quick photo of the current NR menu and share it with me I would really appreciate that. Must distract myself by planning meals!

Is it the Magic Tower that was once the Marina Tower? I have to try to get these straight in the next 10 days. Upon check in my only request is that we NOT be in the Tower over the lobby. It is just way too noisy/busy.

In June we totally lucked out and I loved our location, center of Sierra. I did miss walking through the waterfall area in the early morning hours.

Did anything, besides the candy corns, appear to be different from last year?

I still don't like them renaming the towers after the cruise ships. Those names are sacred to the ships, as the tower names were sacred too. :(

I don't like it because there are other words in this world beyond "dreams", "magic", "wishes", "remember", "believe", "stars". I'm reaaaaaly getting sick of everything they do having to involve some random combination of those words.

Even the two new ships are tentatively named the Dreams and Wishes.

I swear if I hear "wishes" one more time....

Well, a rose by any other ... and all that. The blandifying of the Disneyland Hotel by the renaming, when what they were intending was to Disnify it ... was a retarded decision of the worst order. But it's just names.

The improvements to the waterfall lighting, on the other hand, is a substantial improvement. So I'm gonna have to give the Disneyland Hotel Report Card a passing grade for overall improvement.

Oooh, now I have to go see the waterfalls tonight.

I WONDER what happened to the Bonita Tower.

(okay, proabably the worst pun this month, but it was begging to be made)

"It's Halloween Time"

All the F'n commerical's for DL in San Jose have little kids saying "It's Halloween time" over and over. And every radio station in San Jose gives away daily trips to DL. Hopefully HMH is good?!

Both of the "A"s in the "California" in the Esplanade are candy corn, too. Word to the wise: it's not real candy corn (now where do I send my dentist bill?).

We didn't go up and touch them but wondered whether or not the A's were covered or replaced? I go for covered with the candy corn.....

I took a picture but didn't get the whole name in....

I believe this is the giant candy corn I saw loaded on the back of flatbed truck a few weeks ago

I hear the same thing, on KDFC. I still wish the commercials were for Frontier Village, I lament that a great deal, that little piece of my childhood.

At Frontier Village spend the day?

Neph and I made a fun discovery the other night at HMH:


(Non-spoiler version: Sit in the left-hand side of the doombuggy, and look to the far left behind some presents right before exiting the attic. You will see a little tribute to a former mansion resident.)

Now that is a cool find!

That tribute was there last year, too. Maybe even the year before. The year after they took out all the cymbal banging monkeys. That year.

Why do Oogie's lines at the end still indicate that we're on a hunt for him? Can't they update the recording? And while they're at it, get Corey Burton to correct that stupid "Unlike no other" line. Makes me crazy.

Is that all it takes? ;)

Ah well- it was new to us and very cool to find.

I LOVE the cookie carnage in the ballroom this year-one hiding in the presents, the remains of one spread over many plates...the drunk cookie on the floor lext to the legs.....ahhh, happy stuff....3 weeks 2 days....yeah

I wonder if the giant candy corn has been tested for lead, considering how they have "China" stamped in them :)

I really liked the zoetrope in the Animation Building. I could stare at that for hours.

This clue straight from today's Al's Update. Ride it's a small world, if you like it, this week .... or be prepared to wait till January 2009 to ride it again.

it's going down for standard Xmas conversion after this coming MouseAdventure weekend, then a 10-month refurb, then Xmas, and finally classic it's a small world two Januarys from now.


The refurb will replace the flume and boats that have been around since the 1964 World's Fair. Yes, those are the original boats in the original flume. And besides being near the end of their useful life, they were not designed for today's more hefty Americans.

That's right folks, the entire refurb is basically to combat Boat Sinking.



Apparently, the effect we know too well from first-hand experience of entire boat chain back-up from ships run aground in the camera-less building is an all too common occurrence. They've decided enough is enough.


So let's all be sure to ride it's a small world this coming MouseAdventure weekend.


And maybe sink one last boat for old time's sake.

Oh, I was talking about Cherny telling me about it because his roomie told him about it.

I still can't decide whose expression is my favorite in that shot, because they're all hilarious! The only ones who seem to still enjoy themselves are Ken and Kevy. Now, I know that Ken has almost no sense of smell... so, that concerns me about Kevy... :p

Put us down for one last original cruise. :(

Sadly, the zoetrope was not running last week when Neph and I stopped in. We kinda had to run around it really fast to get the gist of it. ;)

Does it only move every hour or something?

It was spinning every few minutes when I was in there sunday afternoon. It would stop and start up several times. It was cool, but makes you dizzy after a few times.

Bwa hahahahaha-I wondered if it was supposed to move. Hopefully it will be running when I am back in November.

It rests for six minutes between demos - they need to put up a sign.

Zoetrope is awesome. I'll try to upload a video t YouTube soon. Haven't gotten around to uploading from this week's meet.

I'm up for one last ride, only can we make it sometime later in the evening? Like Sunday night after dinnertime?

For me the two reasons (and the only two reasons) to go into DCA are the Tower of Terror and the Zoetrope. I was totally mesmerized by how cool it was. We all thought it was neat how everything has its own sound too, if you listen for it.

The lady at the front says it spins 2 1/2 times per second, and that the little green alien waving to you at the front has the most Gs..... 7Gs, in fact :) I hope they make more of those things with different characters, seriously. I could spend an entire day in a room of spinning zoetropes.

If it is anything like the Totoro zoetrope, I'm going to love it.

But what about the free tortillas???

Tortillas are almost free anyway. 1.39 for like 30 of them!

But no, I don't need the flour carbs. ;)

My favorite thing at DCA is dining on the patio at Trattoria. But the zoetrope is a serious contender for that spot.

So get corn tortillas then. ;)

I like messing with the ride ops at MaliBOOMer- it's fun to know naughty things about the ride mechanism

The Toy Story Zoetrope is awesome.

Indeed. I saw it in NYC at the MoMA Pixar exhibit. I'm glad they installed it at DCA so more people can see it.

Just getting iSm to sit still to wait for the zoetrope to start spinning was a chore and a half. :D

Oh, like I'm going to sit there staring at this motionless thing while the wonders of DCA's best interior space (the Animation Building lobby) with it's constantly changing and all-surrounding Diztacular imagery awaited mere footsteps away. :p




(Once the Zoetrope started, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. We had to beat it out of there in a hurry during one of the few pauses ... because once it started up again, I could not tear myself away. But my eyeballs began to vibrate dangerously after a while.)

Oh ho. But you said you could never possibly enjoy the lobby any more since they put in the poster holder thingy in the center of the room. You said it ruined everything.

I love seeing people's reactions when they see the strobe lights go on during the zoetrope spin. It's neat.

Well, they put the comfy seating back in, so (almost) all is forgiven.

I love the lobby, and it was very hard for me to stay there while it did nothing, but my feet talked me into having patience.

But he's right.. what a dumb addition that was.


Again, agreed, now, take the poster thingy out, and turn the lights back down, and I'm good.

I also like trying to figure out how it all works. Because some of the projections seem like they are from slide projectors and some of it is moving. And somehow some of the screens overlap but the projected pictures don't overlap... Cooool!
