Gn2Dlnd 10-06-2007 10:30 AM

I'm going to Disneyland!

And I'm gn2dlnd, but you knew that.

This is the thread I'm starting right now so as to make it easier to see if anyone else is going to the Park on a given day. If you're heading to the Park, say, after a long day at a farmer's market, just check online to see if any other LoTters have posted here, and you'll know if you can change your status from "Single Rider" to "Friend of the Friendless!" It's that simple!

Here's how it works:

Quote:

Heading to the Park today (10/6), should be at the hub around noon.
So easy a child could do it. But don't, unless accompanied by an adult.

Gn2Dlnd 10-10-2007 06:45 PM

I'm in the neighborhood, so I'm stopping by the Park for an hour(ish).

I'll probably have dinner at DTD.

10/10, 7ish(ish)

Capt Jack 10-10-2007 07:30 PM

man, I so envy those who can just wander over there to hang out.

/sigh

My sister Bobbi is coming down there tomorrow and will be there all weekend- her long distance BF moved to Fullerton this last month, so I think she'll be visiting there more often. We're all coming down in April as well! (Fair warning).

(PS- NA, if you've the time she'd love to meet you for lunch at DTD while she's there!)

I'll be at the Resort on Saturday and Sunday but Saturday I have a meeting with a group at about noon and a 5:30 dinner at Napa. Sunday is MA, of course. I would love to see Bobbi again! I wonder how we can work it out?

I'm heading to the park today (Thursday, Oct. 11).

If the park was open later, I'd join you, but I couldn't make it there till 7:30 so no point :(

I'm still at work. 20 minutes away from Disneyland.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 10-12-2007 02:00 AM

No one missed much Thursday at the park - DCA closed at 5 so EVERYONE including dead people poured into Disneyland. It was like July 17, 2005.

Once again - I miss the off-season. :(

I'm leaving in about an hourish. We'll be there through Monday.

LSPoorEeyorick 10-13-2007 08:27 AM

As it turns out, the three of us who intended to be in the park today are all blocked! But we will be in the DTD area this evening, and I'm hoping to see you out-of-towners especially.

blueerica 10-13-2007 08:54 AM

I will be around and was prepared to go into the park. But, if there are a lot of "blocked" individuals, I may just hang out in the DTD, especially since Traci can't go into the park until tomorrow.

I will see as many of you that will be there later!

I may be heading down a little later (Sat., 10/13), I still don't have many phone numbers of y'all from when my phone got wiped. I'd love to lunch, but however will I find you?

Maybe I should just hang out at Sephora, eventually you'll show up. :p

Gn2Dlnd 10-17-2007 10:25 AM

Wed., 10/17, noonish, I'll be meeting the Mommodore at the Park for lunch. She bought herself an AP so she can occasionally trap me!

She'll probably leave by 4, I haven't decided how late I'll stay. Call me, or post here, if you want to meet up.

Not Afraid 10-17-2007 11:51 AM

BTW, Tracilicious is at the Park. There's a chance we may swing by later. Chris is at SONGS today.

Chernabog 10-17-2007 01:16 PM

I will hopefully be swinging by the park on Sunday.

€uroMeinke 10-17-2007 05:10 PM

I've gone to Disneyland and am sitting in the Lobby of the Grand Cal - anyone with Tracilicious' cell phone# want to forward it on to me? Or heck, drop by and keep me company?

€uroMeinke 10-17-2007 05:51 PM

Looks like Tracilicious & family will be joining me just as soon as they get their APs processed. Anyone else?

I'm heading up now. We'll be there most of the day tomorrow with relatives. Someone please save me!! ;)

Gn2Dlnd 10-27-2007 02:41 PM

I'm on my way to the Park, today, 10/27, in the afternoon. I didn't make it last Friday, so I'm jonesing a bit.

I had one of the best steaks of my life at Steakhouse 55 a couple of weeks ago, I may go back tonight.

MouseWife 10-30-2007 08:49 AM

I'm backwards...not sure I was going.

Went yesterday 10/29. After a long day of convention center hopping, went to DCA and rode Soarin' {I thought the guy yelling in the hang glider was my husband, I know he is dying to get back to Yosemite} ate lunch at the Cucina Cucamonga {?} and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Really.

Then we went to watch the Disneys' 50th and ran into Borneio {sp}. Well, figuratively, not literally. {We didn't ask to hang with ya because if you noticed we were wearing sunglasses, prescription, we knew we'd be leaving soon}. Rode the Jungle Cruise. Why are the waterfalls off? OUr guide was funny but I wondered, as we laughed at his jokes, how about all of the people who don't speak English, what are they thinking as they ride? Hmmm.

We left after that. Darn, it got really crowded! I thought there were no costumes allowed in the park and I saw a few. Are the people who go to DCA allowed into Disneyland after with their costumes? {it was too early for that, though}

When we pulled in to the parking lot, the gentleman was quite nice, 'Welcome to the park, have a nice day'. We said 'Hey, we will we didn't bring the kids!' he says in response 'Welcome to the park, have a nice day'. As we pulled away I told the Hubster 'I think we threw him, he didn't know what to say!' :D

Anywho...would have been nice to hang with people but it was just nice to be there, period. :)

Heehee. Either that, or he's a freaking robot. I'm now imagining him saying that in lieu of any conversation.

"How late is the park open?"
"Welcome to Disneyland, have a nice day."

"When do you get off work, handsome?"
"Welcome to Disneyland, have a nice day."

"Honey, take out the garbage."
"Welcome to Disneyland, have a nice day."

Hahah that sorta reminds me of that Margaret Cho act with the nurse that came into her hospital room and announced, "hi, my name's Gwen and I'm here to warrrrrsh your vagina!" Margaret imagines her saying it so much it just comes automatic... like

Gwen: "Hi, my names Gwen and I'm here to warrrrrrrsh your vagina!"

Man: "Excuse me?"

Gwen: " Oh I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry sir... yes, I would like to renew my driver's license." :D

OK back to your regularly scheduled Disneylanding.....

I'll be at DL on the evening of Thursday 11/29, all day 11/30 (except dinner reservations at the Napa Rose at 7:45) and a good chunk of the day on 12/1. Anyone else going to be in the park?

If you're there come by The Mansion, or the Mark Twain, or the Columbia, or Fantasmic, or the Parade. I'll be somewhere. I wore an "Alice" name tag on April Fools Day this year- with a manager's approval, of course...

Change in plans, we've changed our arrival to hit Anaheim on Friday 11/30. So the only snowflakes in Disneyland on the evening of the 29th will be the one's floating per the usual Disneyland schedule, and not me. So, we'll be in the park the 30th, 1st and (partial day) 2nd.

I won't have a laptop with me, I will try to get on the PC at the business center of the hotel (does this mean I need a PDA?), but if you need my cell number, mousepod and NA have it (and I think CP, LSPE and BtD).

MouseWife 11-30-2007 02:49 PM

I'm axing this here since this is a 'going to Disneyland' thread...

Well, I'm going to Disneyland on Monday. I see it opens up a little later {9 a.m.} and closers earlier {6.p.m.} and that DCA opens at 10a.m. and closes at 9p.m.

I am confused as to what type of strategy to use! With the park closing early, how does that 'three stages' of the castle work out? And, why is DCA open later? I see that next Monday {the other day we had planned to go} the hours are almost flipped. But, with school and the Boy, this one works better.

Help!! What can anyone tell me? And, I am wondering if anyone can help if they haven't experienced these times before during the holiday shows?

Thanks in advance for any advice. :D

Morrigoon 11-30-2007 02:51 PM

You're running across the Disney Family Holiday Party, I think.

DCA is open later as a consolation prize.

MouseWife 11-30-2007 03:21 PM

Thanks, Morrigoon! :snap:

I wonder, though, how it effects the snow/castle? I actually don't mind it being over sooner if they do the whole shebang. I wonder if they'll save it for the Disney Party?

LOL DCA is the consolation. Well, if I could convince the family to go and ride the ToT it would be cool. At night. Oooo!!

Snowflake 12-02-2007 08:53 PM

well, not really! We had a blast, I took only a few bad photos and today we're lucky enough to get someone else's one of a million dreams (it's not my dream, alas). After riding NA's carousel, we cut through the castle to get to Frontierland and NOS in the hope of one more ride on Pirates. We were ambushed by a CM named Zach and two others whose names I did not see and "our dream" were three vouchers for castle photos.

So, here we are looking semi-normal

We gave the the swanie girls and madz the trip for Christmas, so now that they know we can make the trip a little more public :)

We'll be in town until the 6th, so if anyone is going to be around the park any of those days...we'd love to see you.

I think your days are great, we, on the other hand, have to go this Sunday {to accomodate everyones' schedules}.

I know it will be crazy crowded, but, won't it be that way until the holiday decorations go down?

Anything going on there this Sunday, oh Swanksters? ;)

I'm going up with the Hubster, the Boy, my sis and two of her kids. I think her son has never been. And, the girl loves HSM. While I do NOT I have a soft spot in my heart and we will probably be there in the audience for it....or Il'l be wandering through a store while they watch that.....

We had a wonderful time with the Swanies and Brigette and family. Aside from some dvc/hotel issues it was a great time.

Maddy got to honk the horn on the monorail. The girls got a private audience with Crush as Maddy had a very important question (Crush's girlfriend's name is Shelly). They loved the Zoetrope. We scored fast passes galore from the dvc/hotel debacle. We even got a surprise Skype call from the wonderful MickeyLumbo. It was crowded but we had a great time. Here are some photo highlights.

Maddy's Sub shot -

The girls kicking back in the hotel-

For dinner the Swanies and I had ressies at Tortilla Joes. We decided to add Brigette and crew for a grand total of 15. 9 kids 6 adults. We were outnumbered. They put us in a private room/baclony and it was awesome. The kids could run around a bit without the rest of the resturant hating us. It was hard to get a good shot of the space but here's the best I got -

Not Afraid 01-04-2008 10:56 PM

WOW! Other than the debacle, it sounds like you guys had a great time. You're hear for the weekend. right?

katiesue 01-04-2008 11:00 PM

Nope - we're back home :( but we did miss the rain. I think Brigette and family are there for another day.

Morrigoon 01-10-2008 11:02 AM

FWIW, I'll be at the Lost Bar after rehearsal tonight. Figure about 11-1130ish I'll get over there. Probably hang out till 1230 at least because someone on my team is turning 21

In case anyone feels like coming over and hanging out...?

Well, we've finalized our plans and here's our itinerary: arrive in LA on 4/1- staying one night at the Hilton Universal. We're getting in early so we can spend the day at Universal Studios. (Hopefully Matt will be working so we can harass him). Then, it's off to the DL Hotel where we're going to be staying in a suite- yoohoo! We'll be there from 4/2 to 4/7. Eric, Tori, Bobbi, Nick and myself are making this trip, so it's the full crew this time. We're up for a Swanking if anyone wants to plot one out.

madmonkeygirl 01-21-2008 02:36 PM

I'm going to Disneyland!

Wendybeth CM will be there on 4/4 evening and then 4/5 on 4/6 we're both planning on going to the park since i have to play tour guide for a bunch of Bon Jovi fans (meeting at noontime at the hub) :)

Prudence 01-22-2008 02:15 PM

Does anyone have any updated info on what may or may not be happening at the Disneyland Hotel in the coming months? I've heard remodel rumors and don't want to make my April reservations and find myself trying to sleep through jackhammer noises.

We'll most definitely have to meet up! Hey, btw- what 's with JBJ's hair? Is he up for a role, or is he just going through a bad hair thing?

madmonkeygirl 01-23-2008 11:09 AM

I'm going to Disneyland!

Wendybeth i don't know honestly. I wish he would keep it long and blonde but hey it's not my hair. There are tons of fans on his fan club board with this discussion everytime he changes his hair. It's grown on me though to be honest since i saw it short and more brownish but still takes getting used to. As long as Richie doesn't do anything major to his hair i'm ok. (Richie girl here).

Yes we will can definitely meet up sometime on the 6th if i'm able to still stand. I figure two shows back to back i might not be able to hear nor have a voice....lol so much for a tourguide lmao...

I think I'm heading to the Park today. I woke up today in an unpleasant (somewhat passed, but slightly lingering) funk. I think I need a rainy day Tiki Room fix. If anyone's around, or would like to meet in the area, call me on my cell.

Gn2Dlnd 01-23-2008 04:51 PM

Mebbe notsomuch. After heading out to the bank, the sky opened up and the temperature dropped. As much as I love Disneyland in the rain, I hate the 5 in the rain.

Could be a good day to watch that movie I haven't seen. Save GC a trip. Of course, if he does come over to revoke my membership, we could make a double feature with "A Star is Born."

Gn2Dlnd 01-23-2008 04:53 PM

It. Make it.

Chernabog 01-23-2008 05:19 PM

I dug up this old thread to say.... I'm going to Disneyland! For the third time in the past 8 days! Anyone else who is going, please give me a ring :) Brian (cruise-boy) and I will be there all day.

alphabassettgrrl 07-20-2008 10:06 AM

Cool, Cherny! Enjoy the day!

Cadaverous Pallor 07-20-2008 11:54 AM

I have sudden urges to go ride Midway Mania and just come home

innerSpaceman 07-20-2008 03:20 PM

Heheh, I really want to meet cruise-boy, but I don't want to horn in.

And yeah, if I lived as close as CP does, I'd surely go often just to ride Midway Mania and then go home. OMG sacrilige ... just DCA and go home!!!

But it's the most fun new attraction since ... um, sorry, I've got to say since Splash Mountain!! Oh Em Gee!

OMG If I lived that close, I would definitely do that! Or get my daily walk in at the park. Or heck, walk or ride my bike to the park!

I'd also head into DTD for beignets {which of course would defeat the whole purpose of the walking but oh well.....}.

I live within walking/bike ride distance to NOTHING.

{this whole post should be in green 'cause I'm so jealous!!!;) }

Kels 07-20-2008 06:37 PM

Let the fun begin!

After two days of traveling we just arrived at the resort. I'm sitting in my room at HoJo patiently waiting for tomorrow. I can't wait to check out Toy Story Mania, Nemo, and all of the other things that have changed in the last three years. We'll have a perfect view of the fireworks tonight from our balcony. A perfect start!!

Is there anything that shouldn't be missed?

Kels.

Kevy Baby 07-25-2008 05:14 PM

Since it is a bachelor weekend for me, I think I shall go to the park tonight. Feel free to contact me if you feel so inclined.

The Zoetrope in the Animation building is REALLY cool.

Definitely see the fireworks from the hub area one evening. A good spot is either right in front of the castle, or on Main Street in the center, between Coke Corner and the Photo Shop. (Basically, anywhere you can see the castle).

The fastpasses that are gone first are for Space Mountain and Indy. Make sure you get those first.

And the Nemo line is by FAR the shortest at night (like 11pm), if you don't care about seeing the lagoon by day.

Yes, I accept tips. ;)

Kevy Baby 07-25-2008 06:01 PM

Since he posted that last Sunday, I am guessing that he is already gone. I could be wrong.

But thanks for reminding me about the Zoetrope - I haven't seen that yet.

wolfy999 07-26-2008 08:58 PM

Wolfette and I will in the Park tomorrow (Sunday)....just thought I'd let you guys know. If you don't have my number, PM and we can go from there.

CoasterMatt 07-26-2008 09:14 PM

We'll be at Knott's tomorrow - Boysenberry Punch, Sitdown Mountain, and Xcelerator goodness beckon - but we might end up at Disneyland later.

MouseWife 07-26-2008 09:59 PM

CoasterMatt~do you guys have APs for Knotts? I am low on funds and thinking if I should get those this year, to switch over for a while. It is cool on their website that you can see YouTube video of the rides. Have you riden {duh, of course!} Pony Express? It looks a little uncomfortable, maybe, like you are being thrust onto the front of the horse. Can you give any clues? Is this just how it looks or is it uncomfortable? And, Sidewinder, do those darn things spin a lot?

I love Boysenberry punch!!! And, if weekends weren't so crowded, I'd love to do the BBQ thing. I think Knotts is great for: the rides, the ambiance, the food, the lack of lines. Their hotel, while not fantastic, is in a fantastic location. I can usually get a pretty good rate. But, not the most schnappy place. Once they gave us a room and when we went it still have peoples things strewn about!!! Another time there was trash in the room and a used bar of soap!!! Other than that.... Close to TGIFridays and those huge margaritas!!! :snap:

CoasterMatt 07-26-2008 10:18 PM

Pony Express isn't uncomfortable at all, it's pretty boring - but seems to be a hit with the tweeners (which is who it was aimed at, really)

Sierra Sidewinder is one of the most fun coasters in California, not big on thrills but TONS of laughs - and it has onboard video so you can see just how silly you look. The spinning isn't that bad, UNLESS you have a very unbalanced car at the back of the train (Bornieo might have some words here).

We're getting Knott's APs tomorrow (actually printed them tonight), if you buy them online now - they're $89.99 each.

MouseWife 07-26-2008 10:59 PM

That's a deal for the AP's. With no blackout dates. I think the least expensive Disney AP's are $129? I really want both....{says the woman who gave away 3 shifts at work today...wrong hours....maybe they'll give me hours when I can work....}.

LOL Oh, that would be me, then. I freak out on Ghostrider, feel like I am going to fly out.

But I like to eat. :D Even if I went on just a few rides, to go whenever I wanted, to stroll about and enjoy the different 'seasons' would be cool.

Thanks for the info!

Hmmm...wonder what happened to Bornieo?

Not heading to the Park. Decided I was too tired and hungry, best not to shoot for angry and lonely.

Katiesue, Maddy, Wolfette and I are going to spend tomorrow afternoon at the Park. Just call (if you have any of our numbers) or PM one of us. Love to connect up with more LoTter's if you're around.

Cadaverous Pallor 08-02-2008 04:50 PM

We'll be there at some point tomorrow, as mentioned in the Midway thread.

RStar 08-02-2008 05:25 PM

If you don;'t have an AP, then getting into the park will set you back $63 starting this weekend (I think).

What would Walt say about that I wonder? Now that most people would be sticking their nose through the gate looking at a place they can't afford to go the way he did to the local park when he was a kid. Very sad....:(

katiesue 08-03-2008 07:43 AM

Deebs 08-03-2008 10:53 AM

I haven't been since April. This makes me very sad. My AP is all dusty and lonely.

alphabassettgrrl 08-03-2008 10:54 AM

I'm planning to be there on the 10th. I have to renew my AP and I'll be taking the train down, so will have to leave by... 5:30 or so.

Deebs 08-03-2008 11:03 AM

5:30?
Ugh.

I wish I could meet you there.

innerSpaceman 09-02-2008 08:33 PM

I'm so sorry I did not get to the Park this weekend to congratulate the hearty runners, and spend some fun time with them.

Ditto for SuPeR K!, who was also at the Park yesterday, but i didn't know in time.

Don't think that would have changed my outcome. My weekend was spoken for.

So sorry. Hope to see all of you sometime soon ... somewhere.

I know most of you are busy with an assortment of parties and whatnot, but for any who are not - we're going to be at the park on the 31st. I want to see villains, and it's one of my regular Fridays off, so we're going to head down there. If anyone wants to meet up, just let me know.

madmonkeygirl 10-23-2008 07:27 PM

Wish we could we're doing Knott's Haunt on the 31st tradition. Not sure we want to go early in the morning since we usually head to Knott's and just {hang out in the park before the prescare dinner. Plus not sure if i want to go check into the hotel earlier or not. Will depend how soon we get down there and how i feel.

We're going tonight after work to hopefully visit the land of perpetually cheerful dolls and get snowed upon. And maybe finally eat at the Jazz Kitchen, although given our history thus far something will likely derail that portion of the plan. We'll be at the park, though, trying our luck in the new flume.

Morrigoon 11-21-2008 01:01 PM

BDBopper 11-24-2008 07:10 AM

It's a wee bit early for a Christmas/Holiday thread so please excuse my post here cause it is not about me going to Disneyland (we'll wait until next Spring for that official announcement) but I just saw something on Youtube that I wanted to share and if you were at the park over the weekend probably saw.

The Christmas Fantasy Parade has a new Workshop unit Skip to 4:27 to check it out. It's really cool and makes all sorts of noises (so much so that when it passes right by the camera the din rises above the music). Very imaginative. Well done! :)

wolfy999 11-26-2008 12:27 PM

According to Disney.com,

Remember....Dreams come true fireworks spectacular is playing the weekends of

May 1, 2, 3rd

May 8, 9 & 10th

May 15, 16 & 17th

May 22, 23, 24th AND on Monday the 25th, Tuesday the 26th and Wed, th 27th (Memorial Day Holiday week)

so I don't know why anyone would think this particular weekend is the last performance.

No, this is probably not the last weekend of the "Remember...Dreams Come True" Fireworks. The calendar at Disneyland.com is listed through May 2009 and has "Remember" scheduled at 9:25 p.m. for every Saturday and Sunday.

I think iSm means it would be great to have a sorta-last, LoT group viewing of it before it goes away this year.

~MS~ 04-23-2009 10:19 AM

Well I have plans of standing on Main street surrounded by some dear friends as we watch that amazing show...so I RAN to the website to see if things had changed!

Not Afraid 04-23-2009 10:29 AM

There will be several opportunities for "Remember" viewing in the future.

Moonliner 04-23-2009 10:44 AM

So, if someone were planning a trip for say Aug 24th (A Monday). What fireworks show could they look forward to seeing?

DreadPirateRoberts 04-23-2009 10:45 AM

The self generated one at City Hall.

innerSpaceman 04-23-2009 11:47 AM

Yes, I didn't mean it was THE last performance. Merely the last likely opportunity for us to see it as a big group.

BTW, the last peformance of Remember happened some time ago. What's left is the Reader's Digest version, sans the entire Frontierland segment.

Exactly. "Remember" is still spectacular, but it also lost some of its original golden touch after Disneyland's 50th Anniversary was over, and part of Julie Andrews' narration was changed from saying "50 years ago ..." to "many years ago ..."

It will be called....Magical. Supposed to be more confined to the Castle area, so other parts of the Park will not be closed during the show.

Morrigoon 04-23-2009 01:47 PM

I heard a rumor involving confetti.

It'll be a beancounter's pyro show.

The chance as a big group including the Lashes maybe, but I don't know why we couldn't do a proper send off before they are gone somewhere down the road.

Well, I for one don't have the heart for a big send off down the road. With the entire Frontierland section missing, I feel as if the last chance to see the show in its best light has already passed.

And frankly, with nothing having happened LoTwise for the wide-flume premier of it's a fatter-person's small world, I've been thinking the big Disneyland meets have pretty much passed as well.

Could be wrong ... but that's not the wind I've been sniffing. Too many people bored with Disneyland.

DisneyDaniel 04-23-2009 07:06 PM

Well, in the next few years, there will be lots of opportunities for LoT group meets to experience new attractions and major changes ... for anyone who dares venture across the esplanade to the dark side.

I would love to do a big grope group meet for fireworks next month, when I'm not doing Mouse Adventure at the buttcrack of dawn the next morning. (Yes, I'm old, and I've gotten used to getting at least 8 hours of sleep, and I LIKE IT.) The Rat has never seen the fireworks, abbreviated or no, from a prime viewing location, so I'd totally be down with camping out in the hub - preferably not the weekend I'm in DC, as that would be complicated.

And we're still averaging 1 park visit per week, so we're clearly not bored with it yet.

So there!

Mousey Girl 04-23-2009 11:21 PM

Well...it looks like I will be going for a few days during The Boy's summer vacation. My BF received some money and really wants us to go on vacation. I was thinking San Diego, but Boy and BF are wanting DLR.

I have to admit, being some place familar sounds nice, like going to see a good friend.

alphabassettgrrl 04-24-2009 12:13 AM

Anyone know approximately what time the Lashpair and any others on MA will be free to meet up at DL on Sunday? :D

innerSpaceman 04-24-2009 08:30 AM

MouseAdventure usually ends around 3pm. After that, a meal or cocktails or both are generally in order.

Pick a place, make some ressies, and the LashPair and assorted minions ... well, ya know, if you build it ... they will come.

Moonliner 04-24-2009 08:37 AM

Has anyone tried the new Big Thunder all-you-can-eat Barbecue restaurant?

It sounds like a bear friendly place.

I thought the applicable phrase here was "if you mix it and add an olive.... they will come." ;) So if we do 4:00 drinks/appetizers @ the Hearthstone and 5:00 early dinner reservations @ Brennans, that would work you think? Then we can be joined by whoever wants to join... Let me know and I shall make it so.

It is... but also beary expensive! $36 or more/person! Seriously if you are gonna spend that much dough, for an extra $10 more you can eat at Napa Rose lol

I think dinner time depends on what time the awards ceremony is.

I will probably show up sometime after 5:30.

As in, the awards ceremony should be over by 5:30? I can just push everything forward a few hours. And if anyone has other suggestions on where to meet up I'm all ears :)

Edit: The awards ceremony is 6-7 @ the Paradise Pier Hotel according to the Mouseplanet website. The MA actual is over at 4pm. ( Grrrr you made me go there. )

SO, I think if we do Drinks @ Hearthstone for 4:30ish and then make dinner ressies for 7:30ish that should work schedule-wise?

katiesue 04-24-2009 09:12 AM

The schedule is game over at 4 PM - mixer at 5 - awards start at 6.

Ghoulish Delight 04-24-2009 09:18 AM

Not Afraid 04-24-2009 09:32 AM

Chris and i are in for dinner but won't be there for drinks.

katiesue 04-24-2009 09:37 AM

We're in for drinks but not dinner. There are 8 of us.

Prudence 04-24-2009 09:42 AM

We'll try to be in for both, although I'm going to need to work in a shower at some point (we've got a room at PPH for the night). So 2 for us for drinkies and dinner.

lashbear 04-24-2009 09:52 AM

We're good for drinks & Dinner, but as we are budgetary Bears we need somewhere middle-of-the-road pricewise, and non-buffet (Stoats don't eat a lot)

BarTopDancer 04-24-2009 09:59 AM

I'm in.

mousepod 04-24-2009 10:28 AM

We did the Big Thunder barbecue on Sunday. It was actually pretty darn good, with one caveat: it was a hot day, and we kept drooling over the ice cream cones that the other families were getting for dessert. Finally, when it was time for us to finish our meal, it was revealed to us that the cones did not contain ice cream, but an iced cupcake on top of some cupcake-appropriate mixture. Not to say that an iced-strawberry shortcake cupcake with sliced strawberries served in an ice cream cone wasn't yummy, but with temperatures sitting at around 100 degrees, ice cream would have been a lot nicer.

innerSpaceman 04-24-2009 10:34 AM

I'm in for dinner, especially if it's Brennan's. Drinks, too, and whereever (though Tortilla Ho's seems to be a popular post-MA watering hole).

I could give a hoot about the boring awards ceremony. But drinks at 4:30 should allow everyone who wants to attend awards to have a cocktail before ... and those who want to skip it to keep downing 'em.

Would dinner at 7:00 work? If Brennan's Soup Kitchen is the venue, ressies are a MUST.

Ghoulish Delight 04-24-2009 10:43 AM

Dinner at 7 would me no one who wants to could do both the award ceremony and dinner.

Yeah thats why I am thinking 7:30, so you'll have a half hour to walk to the restaurant. I'll make reservations for 7:15 just cuz it'll take them a while to ACTUALLY get it set for that many people.

By my calculations:

C-bog and BJ-bog (2)
KatieSue and Clan (8)
Gruesome Twosome (2)
innerSpacepackage (1)
Marlatop (1)
Lashpair (2)
Our Fearless Leaders (2)
Prudypair (2)

That's reservations for 20(!!!) Sweet.

Ghoulish Delight 04-24-2009 11:04 AM

subtract 8 from that, Katiesue said they would be in for drinks, not dinner.

innerSpaceman 04-24-2009 11:04 AM

Who does the awards ceremony any more?

Dinner later than 7 means anyone who wants to see fireworks and do dinner won't be able to do both. :p

What do the Lashes want to do? If they have their hearts on winning, we should do dinner later. If they want pyro night cap, we should eat earlier.

I'm always up for What Would LashBear Do?

Add to that 1. Isaac would join us for dinner, but doesn't post on the LoT.

Ghoulish Delight 04-24-2009 11:05 AM

Seeing as we'll actually be in official competition this year, and I'm going to wait until at least 5 minutes in before giving up, I personally would like the option of attending the awards should we end up doing well.

innerSpaceman 04-24-2009 11:07 AM

I assume the Lashes would like to attend the awards, too ... seeing as this is their first MouseAdventure ... and they have no clue as to the intense boredom and endless delay that is the so-called Awards Ceremony.

But I hate to just assume ....

Chernabog 04-24-2009 11:07 AM

Pyro? Won't the lashpair have seen pyro for like, 12 nights already? ;)

OK so now we're at 13 people. Slightly more manageable for Brennan's I think :)

Chernabog 04-24-2009 11:15 AM

Reservations have been made in my name for 13 people at the Jazz Kitchen, 7:15. Which means we'll be seated at 7:30 ;)

Yay can't wait to see you guys.

BarTopDancer 04-24-2009 11:52 AM

Actually, Andrew, I doubt there's anything to be done. I think the Mascot thingy and the T-Shirt whatsit are entertaining and adorable. But the ballroom sucks. I know it's necessary nowadays, but it's lame and I hate everything about it ... including how expensive the game has become because of it.

Don't bother telling me that's how it has to be. That or nothing at all. I know. It still sucks.

Prudence 04-24-2009 12:48 PM

If Heffalump and Woozle manage to complete the race, we'll want to go to the awards ceremony. If Heffalump and Woozle get hopelessly stuck and flounder, we'll be drinking steadily from 4:30 on.

I was pre-shocked at the prices which have led to a general FAIL of the new Big Thunder BBQ (i.e., $29 for adults) ... but newly-shocked yesterday to discover it's the only Disneyland eatery that doesn't post the prices anywhere.

Lame and Shame.

On the other end of the beautiful spectrum of light ...

The new night-lighting on Mickey's Fun Wheel is a giant WIN, and easily DCA's most successful Walt-style Weenie EVER.

I've been on it only once. Forever to load, then one measely, stingy rotation, followed by forever to unload. Sigh, but I'd like to give it one more try.

It is the most incredible weenie DCA has ever seen. All over the park, people were pointing at it and gasping. As we sat there filming that video, dozens of people walked by exclaiming they wanted to ride it.

The total cost for 3 adults was $89.00 (including a CM discount). We did not tip any additional over the 15% tacked on tip since the service was so bad. The CM that seated us even admitted that they had no clue what they were doing with a full house (Mother's Day). The food was so-so and I don't see us returning. We are glad we went only because we have to try anything new at the Park.

Like you said, the CMs at Celebration Ranch and Barbecue probably did not know how to handle big crowds, let alone an overflow of guests.

I have dined there twice already and greatly enjoyed the entire experience, pretty good food, fun character interactions, continuous stage entertainment, and the talented singers/musicians each time. Because the place was practically empty on both visits, we also had great service and full attention from the servers.

The only complaint was the shifting sun, so we sat on one side of the partially-shaded benches for the first half of the meal, and then moved across to the other side of the benches for shade when the afternoon sun shifted and the direct heat become unbearable.

Otherwise, I think Celebration Ranch and Barbecue is a good value for character/entertainment dining for special occasions or a different experience.

Of course, I would prefer if the price was lower, but think it's priced fairly with other character-dining spots.

We are home. We had a great time. I must admit that spending yesterday with ABG was the highlight (well, that and stumbling into seeing fireworks Monday night).

I will catch up wth the many new posts, but right now I need to give 2 dogs baths and take a long nap.

Gemini Cricket 06-13-2009 01:28 AM

I saw the footage of Dumbo during the fireworks and I got to admit that I laughed. It looks cheesy, imho. Like they just floated a big plush Dumbo over the castle. lol
:D

alphabassettgrrl 06-14-2009 07:22 PM

Glad you made it home! I was glad to spend the day with you, too!

Hoping to see the fireworks tomorrow (Monday). And the new Fantasmic!

Morrigoon 07-04-2009 01:30 PM

Two separate parties on my Twitter feed have noted the emptiness of the park today. (I know, wtf?)

One reported no wait for a table at Carnation Cafe at 1pm, and the other reported that parking levels Minnie & Donald are empty, with Goofy less than half full.

Now, I'm sure as 9:25pm approaches these numbers will change, but for any PAPs out there who might be interested... thought you oughta know.

Me? I'll be there all evening. I'm not holding my breath for light crowds by that hour. (But think how nice it'd be!)

Come by Carnation Plaza tonight and say hello. Stompy Jones plays starting at 7:00 so I'll be there...

Alas, this is our not-Disneyland weekend. Next weekend, first Electrical Parade viewing for the Rat, I hope.

I am also hoping to get there to see it next Saturday. I am presenting The Boy with big decision. A day of G-Force at the El Cap, the Tar Pits, and then DLR for the parade.

He wants to be in the pits at the races. Since I can't go the races (heat and dust), I am hoping he chooses my option.

Heading out for the first time in a couple of months today. Be there from noonish on...

Yeah, was gonna go for Xmas, and now it's February already. I'm beginning to think I should have just gone for the day pass

BarTopDancer 02-09-2010 12:39 AM

That's pretty much how it happens.

I was going to renew in May, for my birthday. It expired the next day and I was going to take advantage of the bday gift card + $20 discount. The guy at the ticket booth was profoundly confused by the transaction and I waited. Didn't end up going until over a month later.

alphabassettgrrl 02-09-2010 09:55 AM

Well, I'm on my way out the door, and I hope to have a little bit of time to spy on the River before the rain sets in. Anybody that gets a minute to drop by, call my cell!

Prudence 02-13-2010 02:18 PM

We're going this afternoon.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 02-13-2010 10:54 PM

We'll be here Sunday and Monday at the hotel Menage (But only two of us checked in.) Just saw the fireworks from the hotel. Very cool.

After a horrific day at work, we've canceled our plans for Disneyland tomorrow :(

Heading to the Park this afternoon to sign Wolfette's friend in....any one want to hang out for a bit?

I can sign in two more people if needed. I'm going to be there around 2:00 to 2:30PM.

innerSpaceman 03-25-2010 09:32 AM

I wish Jazz Kitchen wouldn't facebook their soups du jour. I think I miss the Soup Kitchen more than Disneyland itself. And the JK soup status update yesterday had me in stitches as I recalled the Cheddar Bacon Potato freak storm at SuPeR K!'s birthday that compelled people to make out at the table.

Anyway, there's a chance I may go to the Park this Saturday. It's been forever, and my AP is getting more expensive by the day at this rate.

According to some photos and video posted by a friend who was there Stompy Jones played in the Golden Horseshoe instead of Carnation Plaza last night. That would certainly be an improvement over the deluge we danced through last year. It looked like a lot of fun and the band looked right at home on that stage.

Gn2Dlnd 12-19-2010 11:16 PM

I love it when they move the bands to the Horseshoe! So much fun to watch the dancers from upstairs. I wish they'd build a dance hall on Paradise Pier with a wraparound balcony.

I've never seen a band other than the Billy Hills at the Horseshoe, but what a great venue! And yes, a dance hall on the Pier with a balcony would be fantastic!

Gn2Dlnd 12-20-2010 02:58 PM

The year that Plaza Gardens was refurbished and they took out the food service is when I remember them moving the dancing to Horseshoe.

Morrigoon 12-20-2010 03:26 PM

I still hold that they should put in a shiny soda counter all along the back side of that area - give them a financial incentive to keep the dancing around.

Friday at Disneyland in the rain wasn't too bad. It mostly just misted all day, so it wasn't TOO damp, yet for a Friday during holiday time, it was empty. Dumbo was a walk on. Mickey's movie barn was a walk in. It was kind of awesome.

On the other hand, the line for the warming ovens of hell was unnaturally long.

Aww, I'm all nostalgic for the evening that GD and I ducked under the awning at the closed Carnation Cafe with a hot cocoa and watched everyone leave during a quick downpour...then scurried back into Fantasyland when the rain let up. Walked onto Dumbo and gleefully sat in wet seats. Rode Peter Pan a couple times in a row.

BTW, I've been peeking into this thread for vicarious thrills.

Kevy Baby 12-20-2010 11:13 PM

Disneyland in the rain has provided some of our favorite memories.

katiesue 12-20-2010 11:42 PM

Me too. The opening night of Indy was a hurricane. There was no one in the park except the indy line.

Ghoulish Delight 12-21-2010 12:01 AM

The day I first rode Space Mountain was a Christmas Eve in a torrential downpour. By the end of the night the whole of the old parking lot was under a uniform 2 inch lake. The place was deserted. Heaven.

Motorboat Cruiser 12-21-2010 10:03 AM

I moved to California from New York in the early 80s, when it was a big El Nino year. We stayed by Disneyland until our belongings arrived and I spent 3 glorious days in the rain at Disneyland. Fun times, those were. Of all the times I had previously visited, I had never seen it (or even imagined it) so dead. It was like having the park to myself for three days and it was wonderful.

Every time it rains like this, it reminds me of those times.

Prudence 12-21-2010 02:44 PM

Oh, lunch at the Carnation Cafe was heaven. We had priority seating thingies, so we got one of the coveted tables against the bakery door. Got bowls of the baked potato soup, which was the perfect meal. Oscar was there!

Nice!

My favorite Disneyland rainy days were when I worked there, the park would empty out, and you'd spend all day pushing water towards drains with a pushbroom. The other thing I liked was that all the indoor show attractions would suddenly become popular again. And now I've made myself miss Circlevision, Country Bears, and America Sings. Well, there's still Billy Hill (no Golden Horseshoe Revue, but still fun) and the edited due to time constraints Tiki Room. On rainy days they should restore the Offenbach. :D

I was there in the morning that day. It was drizzly, which added to the rain forest open ceiling effect nicely.

My fave memory of Disneyland in the rain was when I was with my brother in the mid 90's. We were getting on Splash just as the park closed (figured we were wet already) and the closeing CM got in line right behind us. By the time we got through the ride it was about 30 minutes after park closeing and the far sides of the park are emptied first. So as we were walking to Main Street there wasn't a soul around, not even a CM. It was like we had the park to ourselves. I felt like Walk walking the park in the morning before it opened! It wasn't until we got to Fronteirland before we saw someone.

Stan4dSteph 01-03-2011 03:33 PM

Today's your last chance to gaze upon the CALIFORNIA letters in front of DCA. Walls go up tonight and they will be removed forthwith.

Gn2Dlnd 01-03-2011 03:54 PM

I'll not be sad to see then go. Although, I'm not a big fan of the Pan Pacific entryway they have planned. Just seems too moderne for the L.A. Walt saw when he got off the train. Like it for H'wood Studios, notsomuch for DCA. I really wish they'd rethink that. I would actually like to see some sort of raised berm, to block the view into the park from the esplanade. Since they're retheming the Golden Gate Monorail bridge to the Hyperion Bridge, a hillside of the sort you see in Silver Lake with a couple of tunnels would do nicely.

Gn2Dlnd 06-22-2011 09:37 AM

How's later today for ya? My market is pre-empted, so I'm heading down to see an afternoon showing of Cars 2 at the AMC (before I read any bad reviews) and hang out at the parks. Parade and Star Tours definitely on the agenda, as well as Trader Sam's, Tangaroa Terrace, Mermaid and, if anyone wants, the Disney-After-Dark-Nighttime-Spectacular-Two-Park-Trilogy. :D

Wednesday nights during the summer there's swing in Downtown Disney. It started last week and goes through mid-August or so featuring live bands next to ESPN Zone and a (tiny) dance floor from 6:00 to 10:00. There was a great turnout of local dancers last week. There's a dance lesson during the first band break and a 40's fashion contest and dance contest in the later breaks. I'm going to try to be there for the early part of the evening when possible. If you're in the area check it out.

Kevy Baby 06-26-2011 06:25 PM

Heading to the park for dinner and a walk

Alex 06-26-2011 10:13 PM

Ok, so after many years I've been back to the park. A rundown:

Nemo Subs - What a complete waste of space. I'm never fond of them going back to the past on attractions but now that I've experienced this one I'm more opposed.

Omnibus - Never actually rode before. Best double decker bus ride I've ever had in California.

it's a small world - Except for Ariel and Mushu the insertion of characters didn't bother me a bit.

Toy Story Mania - Very nice execution but not worth a 45 minute line. But then Our Lord Jesus XP has yet to oversee the creation of a ride worth waiting 45 minutes in line.

Little Mermaid - Didn't do it because after waiting 45 minutes for Toy Story there was no way in heck I was waiting 45 minutes for a dark ride. But I can heartily recommend sitting in Blue Sky surfing the web while someone else stands in line for 45 minutes.

Goofy's Flying School (or whatever it is called) - I closed my eyes so I thought I was on Mulholland Madness.

The new look of Paradise Pier, overall I like it. Could use a bit of something to hide the expanse of Screamin' track aroudn where the the Maliboomer was but I like the open feeling.

The installation of a stroller trap (cable car track) in DCA really brings it up to par with DL.

I'd forgotten just how bland the Blue Ribbon Bakery cinnamon rolls are and thus why it had been 12 years since I'd had one.

Jungle Cruise - Go 4+ years between rides and the patter regains its charm.

The memories projection show at small world - Nothing worth seeking out but it is the kind of small atmospheric touch that I like to see.

Coke Corner Pin Traders - Really? It's been a decade and they haven't found something else to do with their time?

Not Putting Pictures on APs - I was fine with that until I was asked to dig out ID to prove I'm me. My drivers license is not in the same spot as my money so leave me the bleep alone, I'll just skip the discount.

I think that covers the four hours or so of park time over three days.

Ghoulish Delight 06-27-2011 06:28 AM

No picture on AP?

RStar 06-27-2011 06:45 AM

I heard they will have you download your picture online for the AP or something.

Or perhaps they are planning to start the bioscan thumprint system at the gates soon, negating the need for a picture.

Alex 06-27-2011 07:40 AM

No, they apparently no long physically print your picture on the AP. They still take your picture (and it displays on the turnstile monitor when you come in) but it isn't on the AP itself.

At least I assume there was nothing special about us (at the AP processing center the guy specifically pointed it out as not being an error when he gave us our permanent passes).

But this means that at regular cash registers they have no photo evidence that you own the AP. I wasn't universally asked for photo ID every time I used it with a purchase but it did happen twice (Blue Ribbon and whatever they're calling Tomorrowland Terrace now), which is twice more than than I want it to happen.

They have the "bioscan" system at WDW. Day one I used my index finger, day 2 my thumb, day three the bird. Worked without issues all three days.

How would that make it harder?

It would be annoying to have to pull another card out to make a purchase. AP, credit card, driver's license. I always liked that the AP served the dual function of discount card AND photoID.

Kevy Baby 06-27-2011 09:22 AM

I actually used my DL AP as my photo ID for a pre-employment drug screening many years ago; not as a secondary, but as the ONLY ID.

Unless your photo is new or you are an identical twin you probably don't remember exactly what you looked like when your picture was taken and won't be able to compare anymore.

Then you'll be pleased to hear that the bakery is going away to make room for a Carnation Cafe expansion.

Ghoulish Delight 06-27-2011 11:17 AM

But if the legitimate card holder looks THAT different from their original picture and still gets in the gate, it apparently doesn't need to be a particularly close match to fool the security geniuses at the gate.

Cynthia 06-27-2011 11:17 AM

I sure am Morri, Carnation cafe is the closet to a good breakfast I have found at the park - seems almost like it might be food.

Ghoulish Delight 06-27-2011 11:19 AM

Whaa? The line for Blue Ribbon is always huge. Where are all those people going to get their pastries and coffee?

Morrigoon 06-27-2011 11:25 AM

I think the bakery concept is moving elsewhere on Main Street. See Al's latest update.

Ghoulish Delight 06-27-2011 11:34 AM

Aha, yes, finally something worthwhile being done with Plaza Pavilion.

Alex 06-27-2011 11:39 AM

Isn't Blue Ribbon just moving (with a name change) to where the AP Processing Center currently is? I'm sure there's a future yet for giant tasteless cinnamon rolls (and dry tasteless sandwiches).

Pictures and pastries are actually tied together. Blue Ribbon Bakery will be replaced by a Mary Poppins themed bakery/restaurant/something-or-other going into Plaza Pavilion. Annual Pass processing, will go to ticket booths. Pictures will either be carried over from the last time you had your picture taken, or taken by Photo Pass photogs. The new pictureless AP has your very own photopass QR code, so pix can be linked to you. I've never used photopass, but, for those who do, no extra card to whip out. Unless, as Alex experienced, you'd like a discount on your purchases or meals. :/ Still, we get Plaza Pavilion back as a restaurant, because they don't need to take your picture anymore. That's a plus, as far as I'm concerned.

We may be at the Park on Friday afternoon. You know the number.

Yep, 500.

I'm just speculating.

MattMatt and I were behind the Unibomber/Jesus/Uncle Dick to get into DCA during MA and the CM was hassling him because he did not look remotely like his AP or drivers license photo. I think the only reason they let him in is because MattMatt and I came up from behind yelling something involving his name.

It's late notice and most people are at comic con or blocked, but we're going to the park tomorrow. It's possible I'll be able to squeak in one more evening after the truck is loaded, but it's likely this is our last trip before the move. My cheese is very sad.

Be not sad Pru. We have many exciting alternatives here in Maryland to keep your mind off SoCal.

We STILL don't know when we might be loading the moving truck, but we're trying to arrange One. More. Night. at Trader Sam's.

So, I'm thinking of doing some other stuff up that way on Friday, and since I'm in the area, might like to squeeze in a little socializing.

Would anyone be up for a Trader Sam's meet on Friday night? I was thinking maybe 6:30 or 7pm, till about 9:30 or 10pm (gotta keep it to those 3 hours' free parking, heheh)

(and for those who care, possibly followed by karaoke at Azteca at 10pm)

Morrigoon 12-08-2011 09:41 PM

Okay strike that. Per request, switching it to Saturday :)

CoasterMatt 12-08-2011 10:25 PM

Damn... we're getting our new bed delivered Saturday afternoon.

Morrigoon 12-10-2011 03:35 PM

Okay kids, I'm heading out... hope to see you 6:30-9:30 at Trader Sam's! Tweet or FB message me if you're coming :)

I'm going to Disneyland on Saturday, for my first big day out with my new camera, and to make things extra special, I'll have a really spiffy extra wide angle lens along too.

Anything in particular I should aim at? :)

Hummm.... In wide format you say? Let me think.....

Something with the train or monorail could be cool.
Bonus points for getting both in the same shot.

The view down Main Street from the train platform perhaps
Inside or outside of Lilly Belle.

€uroMeinke 12-14-2011 04:48 PM

See how many security cams you can spot

alphabassettgrrl 12-14-2011 11:13 PM

Congrats on your new camera! :)

I think I'll be going on Tuesday, if anyone wants to come play.

katiesue 12-14-2011 11:52 PM

You're all killing me. We haven't had passes since June. The deal was we'd get them when we sold Dukie. And that's just been an exercise in futility. So I finally caved and said just do it. And now Madz has party commitments all weekend so no go. Grrrrrr.

Maddie's birthday is Sunday so we'll be hitting the parks. If anyone's around we'd love to say hi. We should arrive by 10ish and we need to leave around 4 or 5 since she's got school on Monday.

katiesue 01-04-2012 10:09 AM

Slight change of plan - now going to the Parks on Saturday instead of Sunday so we can stay later.

Gn2Dlnd 01-04-2012 11:50 AM

Now Sunday can be used to go to Farrell's! Excellent change of plans!

Kevy Baby 01-04-2012 10:40 PM

If you plan on going to the Farrell's in Brea, plan on a LONG wait. Although I have heard that is the same at all Farrell's

Not Afraid 01-04-2012 11:58 PM

We will try and make an appearance on Saturday.

Morrigoon 01-05-2012 12:12 AM

Kev: the Brea location only opened 12/26, so expect it to be packed for a while.

Kevy Baby 01-05-2012 01:29 AM

According to a friend, the Rancho Cucamonga location is still pretty packed as well (Yes, I know it just opened in Mid November)

katiesue 04-05-2012 05:50 PM

Maddie and I will be there tomorrow & Saturday if anyone's around. I know it's going to be nuts but it was the only time that worked with her friend.

Alex 05-28-2012 11:05 AM

Tokyo Disneyland that is.

I've now been to three Disney properties without wanting the park (though I've been in them on other trips). That has to be somewhat uncommon.

Morrigoon 06-10-2012 02:14 AM

Hitting the park tomorrow. Call or FB message me if you'd like to meet up!

Moonliner 08-06-2012 07:42 PM

Well ain't life strange.

Looks like I might be getting a chance to check out CarsLand sooner than expected.

Saturday Sept 1st (Labor day weekend  ) to be precise.

Anyone planning to be around?

Do I need to stay on prop to get early entry or are there other options?

katiesue 08-06-2012 08:05 PM

Honestly if you do single rider it's not horrible. We went a couple weekends ago and it was less than 20 mins single rider. But by the time we got off single rider was full. So it seems to be sort of hit/miss.

€uroMeinke 08-06-2012 08:12 PM

I can't do Labor Day weekend, but ironically ... because I'll be in San Francisco, too.

RStar 08-06-2012 11:17 PM

Sounds like a San Fran meet is in order!

Moonliner 08-07-2012 06:58 AM

Normally I plan my Disney trips months in advance. This last min planning is challenging.

DCA has early entry on Saturday but as far as I can tell the only way to get a pass is to stay on property. All the Disney properties are filled to the brim so I won't be able to get in until after the early entry hordes are already packing the place like the 405 at rush hour.

The Fantasmic dessert thingy is also booked solid so no reserved seats for that either...

This is going to take some creative solution planning...

katiesue 08-07-2012 08:49 AM

Also fyi the Half Marathon is Sunday. Street closures etc. We've gone a number of times on Labor Day weekend and the crowds really aren't horrible.

Ok more info from a runner. The 5K and kids races are on Saturday. The 5K ends in Carsland and starts at 6:45AM. Kids races are in DTD. The calendar shows both parks not opening till 9AM. She says it's been really busy on the Saturday the last few years.

Ps.. San Rafael'ish I think.

Crud, so the park will be filled with people that can get to the fastpass machines faster than me?

Kevy Baby 08-07-2012 11:21 AM

Single Rider will work well for you (on RSR). Even when the line is long, it's only 45 minutes.

katiesue 08-07-2012 11:45 AM

They do sweep the park after the 5K. But there is early entry at 8AM that day (not sure how they'll work that). But as Kevy said single rider is really the way to go.

Moonliner 08-07-2012 11:57 AM

Except I won't be single. I'm a +1

So on Sat Sept 1st:
DCA opens at 9:00am with no early entry
DL Opens at 9:00am with 8:00am early entry.

How long does a 5k rally typically take? If they start at 6:45am, will it be over before the gates open at 9:00am?
Reading the program, it looks like park admission is separate from the races. Which implies I won't find a park full of runners already in the park when it opens at 9:00am.

katiesue 08-07-2012 12:31 PM

No the runners don't get admission to either park - they do a sweep. The timing seems pretty tight. It says that you must maintain a 16 min mile - which means it would take about 50ish minutes to complete. In my experience with all the characters out etc they didn't hurry us along much. And there are a lot of people running so it can take 15 or more minutes to actually get to the starting line.

Honestly doing single rider, you're with the person right up until you load so you're not apart that much. We've only stood in the "real" line once and that was at the preview. The rest has been single rider.

Moonliner 08-07-2012 12:37 PM

VKM! Thanks for all the information.

Does the queue for RSR's matter? Should I use the standby queue for my virgin ride before using the Fastpass or single queue?

Kevy Baby 08-07-2012 03:01 PM

While the Fastpasses do go quickly, I would still say you have an excellent shot of getting them if you are there right at opening. Though ironically, you will probably have to wait in line to avoid waiting; however, you still realize a solid net gain.

If you want to pop your cherry WITH your plus one and you don't get a FP, then you will need to wait in the two-hour regular line. If you don't care if you are in the same car, then single rider is fine.

If you want to be a planning fool, get a Wait Times app (I use DL Waits, but I think that is iPhone only) and monitor times throughout the day on a Saturday (traffic patterns are different during the week than they are on the weekends). It will probably be heavier on the day you are going, but it will give you some idea of peak wait times.

FYI: at 3:00 on a Tuesday, regular standby is 110 minutes and single rider is 45 minutes.

There are some good parts of the queue that can only be experienced in Standby, but not life-shattering. Again, if you get there for opening, you could dash back to RSR (bypassing FP) and not have that long of a wait (and POSSIBLY be able to get back in time to get FPs for a later ride).

One thing I suggest is having a second ride at night.

BarTopDancer 08-07-2012 03:44 PM

You will see the queue (everything worth while) from the single rider line.

You don't have to be single to go single rider, you just have to be willing to chance not riding next to, or in the same car as your +1. You can spend most of the line with them.

There is a chance you will get to ride with your +1 if the timing/capacity is right; however, the single rider line is split from the rest of the queue so there is no blending in with the fast pass riders to ride together (like you used to be able to do on Indy).

Kevy Baby 08-07-2012 04:11 PM

You miss the bottle room and the details of the road outside same.

Moonliner 08-07-2012 04:35 PM

So:

Rope Drop, FP RSR, Ride RSR. That should avoid the 2hr line.

Or go to DL first enjoy the lack of people and then just take the hit later in the evening at RSR.

Perhaps I should move this to "First World Problems".

LSPoorEeyorick 08-07-2012 05:06 PM

NO, don't go to DL first. I would FP RSR, and they've lately been running out for the whole day within the first half-hour or so that the park is open. So following your FP, you can do whatever you want after that until your FP is ready. Which may not be until night. In that case, hop the single rider for a daytime ride, and enjoy your FP at night.

I do recommend riding the other two Cars rides after you grab the FP. They're short and sweet but entertaining.

innerSpaceman 08-07-2012 05:11 PM

RSR is, imo, a thousand times better at night - so get your fast passes first thing - and use them later, after dark! (And right after you get your fast passes, you can either try the stand-by line or do single rider for your Gotta See It Now daytime ride).

If you want to do Luigi's Tires, however (and I for one think it's fun), it's imperative that you do it super early. SLOW going otherwise.

Mater's Junk Yard is also kinda fun, but also SLOW (though not nearly as slow as Luigi's).

Speaking of slow - you should know that the Matterhorn Bobsleds have been transformed from the fastest-moving queue in Disneyland to one of the slowest. Le sigh.

Moonliner 08-07-2012 07:08 PM

Yea! It's official, I heard back from my +1 and the day trip is on. So bear with me this is going to get a bit weird, even by my standards.....

My +1 is my Mom. It was her father (my grandfather) that worked as an engineer on Disneyland during it's construction. Unfortunately he died an early death. My mom has always held Disneyland as a warm memory of her dad. I'm sure that's the root of my love of the place as well.

It's been years since she has made it to the park and she's starting to slow down a bit so I'm not sure how many good visits she has left. I want to make this the trip of a lifetime for her. I want to stay with her so we can reminisce and enjoy all the park has to offer together at her pace. Of course the rub is the gazillion other people busy making their own memories. So I need a plan. A Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith type of plan.

I need a "mothers helper" for the day. Someone that can make fastpass runs, wait in lines, save spots etc... That way we can spend our time together, keep to a pace that's comfortable for her and still make the most of our time in both parks.

It's a paid position of course, park tickets if needed plus extra for food. I'm hoping perhaps that one of the teens of LoT might be interested or know someone who is. Saturday Sept 1st starting at 8:30am. Wear comfortable shoes... Any takers?

Kevy Baby 08-07-2012 08:21 PM

I will need an AP day pass for me, but I will be your day slave. Susan will probably join me, but she is Premium.

katiesue 08-07-2012 09:15 PM

I have no plans as well. I'm happy to be a relief hitter if needed. I'm sure I can pressure the kiddo into action as well. Plus she moves faster than I do.

Moonliner 08-08-2012 10:26 AM

Can I just say, LoT people are the bestest people there are! :snap: :snap:

innerSpaceman 08-08-2012 11:52 AM

I'd gladly help, too, if I wasn't going to be in the Bay Area. But, heh, maybe I can still get an invite to your great aunt's 90th birthday bash! :p

Can you foxtrot? If so we could get a Harold and Maude type thing going...

Moonliner 08-09-2012 08:10 AM

I had a planning talk with mom yesterday. I'm thinking it might have been longer than I thought since she was last in the park.

She listed the Skyway and Subs (not nemo) as two of her to do's. I don't have the heart to tell her about the Rocket Jets or what they've done to the shooting gallery.

Also she has never been on Dumbo! I need to dive deeper into this but for some reason she was not allowed to back in the day.

Kevy Baby 08-09-2012 10:23 AM

Would Mom be interested in riding in the Lilly Belle? Normally I would try to make this a surprise, but it sounds you are going to carefully plan with no room for surprises.

Kevy Baby 08-09-2012 11:12 AM

I was just reading Al's 7/31 update and was rather surprised by this:
Quote:

What actually has happened in the last six weeks is something far more dramatic and far more impactful to Disneyland Park and the entire resort itself than anyone could have imagined. Instead of DCA increasing attendance by 5,000 to 8,000 and Disneyland staying flat at its breaking-point numbers, DCA has seen its daily attendance figures skyrocket by 14,000 to 23,000 compared to the same dates last summer. Even more dramatically, next door at Disneyland the attendance has declined by 7,000 to 15,000 per day compared to last summer, and the reduction of those crowds have made a huge impact on the overall feel at the 57 year old park with its much older facilities and much narrower walkways. There are now several days per week, often on Saturdays, when DCA gets higher daily attendance numbers than Disneyland.

Moonliner 08-09-2012 11:26 AM

Nonsense! I love surprises! As long as it's between 2:30 and 3:00pm. If that works Yea! If not, no problem, Mr. Lincoln will be happy to visit with us for awhile.

We are planning to knock out Fantasyland during Early entry, hop to DCA at 9:00am for opening (or close to) Carsland, General DCA'ing (Toy Story, Soarin, etc...), Addadin at 11:55am, Lunch at Carthay 1:20pm, and then hop back to DL.

Katiesue and Maddie have also signed on as helpers so this trip is going to be ridiculous!

innerSpaceman 08-09-2012 12:28 PM

"Hop back to Disneyland" being the key to those attendance numbers Kevy quoted from Al. As I understand it, they are all based on which park a guest enters first - and it's no surprise far more people head to DCA first this summer. That's NOT to say Disneyland stays far less crowded than DCA. Everyone wanders back and forth.

Heck, with nothing but the tiny Esplanade between them, let's stop even pretending they are two different parks. :D

Moonliner 08-11-2012 10:22 AM

Humm...

We arrive LAX at ~6:30pm on Friday. Which should put us at the resort around 8:00-8:30p. Enough time for a late dinner and perhaps the fireworks.

Is the current fireworks show worth the effort? (We'll have multid-ay passes anyways....)

innerSpaceman 08-11-2012 11:00 AM

Yes, current fireworks is "Magical" and wonderful and beautiful. Definitely worth seeing.

Kevy Baby 08-11-2012 11:15 AM

My $0.02? Magical is good but not worth going out of the way for. It's a Disneyland fireworks show, so it's better than anything else out there. However, since this is a bit of a reminiscence trip for your Mom, she may want to see it.

One thought may be to get premium seating for the first Fantasmic! show, watch the fireworks from there (not the best spot, but helps to get all the shows in), then head over to DCA for WoC (where your helpers long ago secured Fastpasses for a good viewing area for you).

If F! isn't a priority, catch Magical from the special LoT fireworks viewing zone (in front of Main Street Photo), then head over to WoC.

Alex 08-11-2012 11:44 AM

My $0.02. Take her to Knott's and see if she notices. The Folger's Crystals Instant Coffee of theme park visits.

I checked with Mother Moonie and she is up for a little Disney magic Friday night before we hit the park early (7:30am'ish) on Saturday.

We land at LAX at 6:30pm where a driver will be waiting to wisk us to the resort via the NA approved route that should get us to the park by 8:00pm.

We already have Fantasmic seating for Saturday, so we will save that for then.

I'll see if I can make reservations at the Plaza Inn for 8:20pm'ish which should get us out just in time to park ourselves in front of Main Street Photo for the 9:30pm fireworks. I think we'll skip WOC for a little extra sleep to better prepare us for Saturday.

One word about the NA-approved route that might help.

Both the north/south 710 and the more easterly north/south 605 head down a short distance from the east/west 105 to the east/west 91 (which gets you to the all-important 5 freeway) .... and the 605 is indeed a shorter distance by a quarter mile or so. BUT - traveling on the 105 once you pass the 710 heading for the 605, the freeway goes downhill and travels below street level. This has a weird effect on traffic - which tends to slow down drastically because four idiots have a problem going a down a tiny hill without hitting their brakes.

This causes a multiplier effect and generally the entire 2 miles below street level to the 605 is a clvsterfu<k. It's generally better if you're in the carpool lane - BUT the 105 ENDS at the 605 and there's no carpool lane transition to the 605 south - so you'd have to join the general population of crawlers in the regular lanes.

So I recommend taking the 710 south from the 105 to the 91. Just a piece of advice from someone who knows the perils of rush hour traffic from the LAX area to Disneyland. If I'm feeling insane enough, I will also brave that drive to see you and mom for a while, even though I'm heading to the Bay Area early the next morning. ;)

I still think the best route is 405 N to the 101 N (which is actually W) to the 23 N to the 118 E to the 5 S to the 134 E to the 2 N to the 210 E to the 605 S to the 10 E to the 71 S to the 91 E to the 15 N to the 60 W to the 57 S to the 22 E to the 55 N to the 91 W to the 110 N to the 105 E to the 710 S, exit Willow E, which becomes Katella. Disneyland will be on the left after Abbey's Anaheimer Inn.

I gotta say, for a trip focused on reminiscing that path does go by two houses I used to live in, my Aunts current house, both the houses where my Grandparents once lived and the cemetery where two of them are buried. I'll give it some thought. Oh, and that goes for you too Kevy. No hitting on my mom.

Hehehehe! Love it.

Am I allowed to hit on your mom? :)

lashbear 08-14-2012 07:50 AM

Gosh darn it !!

This boy sure whips in, does the do, then whips out again. I thought it was just Sydney that copped these whirlwind visits.

Glad to see we're given equal footing with Disneyland.

ETA: Oh, if you'd like, we can hit on your mom if you bring her with you downunder.

Humm, let's see... . I arrive LAX at 6:30pm on Friday and fly out at 9:00am Sunday. That's 38.5 hours in LA

I arrive Sydney at 7:30am on Sunday and depart Monday at 5:30pm. So that's 34.5 hours in Sydney.

Huh, I guess I do love Disney more, oh and NO. You are not allowed to hit on my Mother either.

You forgot this trip

Kevy Baby 08-14-2012 11:45 PM

Stopped by the ticket booth tonight. Final answer: an upgrade would be $270, the difference what I paid for my Deluxe before the increase and the current Premium price.

Moonliner 08-15-2012 05:20 AM

*Woot*

My Disney tickets came today! Goofy and Lighting McQueen

I'm so taking the race car!

Kevy Baby 08-15-2012 03:48 PM

So who's fücking Goofy?

Moonliner 08-16-2012 09:31 AM

With some input from mom and the use of a little military grade satellite imagery, I think our touring plan is coming together.

On Friday we are planning a quick dinner, viewing the 9:00pm WoC show, and then getting some sleep.

On Saturday we will take full advantage of Early entry to pounce on Fantasyland before hopping over to DCA for the 11:55am Aladdin show, Lunch at Cathcay, CarsLand in the afternoon and a few other DCA hits before heading back to DL for more attractions, Dinner at Blue Bayou and Reserved seating at Fantasmic.

If we budget in time to use the Main street vehicles and Red Cars we can save quite a few steps. Total distance: ~3.5mi. That's about right for mom over a full day.

Kevy Baby 08-16-2012 11:36 AM

Have you estimated the number of steps this will require?

For me or for her? (There is a statically significant difference in stride length.)

Kevy Baby 08-16-2012 01:27 PM

Should we just call you Bolt since it only took him 41 steps to win Olympic Gold in 100 meters whereas his competitors required 44?

Don't forget to allow time to just take it all in. Sit on the rocking chairs on Main St. and just absorb the atmosphere.

Funny you should mention that... I was thinking that would be a great place to sit for awhile. At exactly 4pm. :D
