Just bought this at Costco for Ken for our first anniversary, since it's the "paper anniversary":

It's already been a year? WOW time flies!

I got that for my son's 6th birthday. It's a fun book.

Ken's going to go absolutely nuts over it.

(It's a good thing his computer won't be hooked up to the 'net for a few more days. ;) )

Oh yeah, I remember doing that. God was it nasty.

Nope. That got eaten at the wedding, because the cake was SO delicious, that everyone wanted a piece of each flavor! :D Seriously, I've never seen a queue for a cake like that, ever. We almost had to put a Wait Time sign at the end of it. ;)

Ken is one lucky bastard.

The cake, baked by GusGus (Kevy Baby's wife), consisted of 5 layers in 4 different flavors:

Chocolate-covered banana
Strawberry cheesecake
Dole Whip
Churro

;)

There were actually four flavors (my wife made the cake). I can't remember them all, but I know one of them was Churro flavor (the other three layers also had Disney tie-ins as did the entire wedding reception.

ETA: never mind - see above :)

ETAA: When GusGus made the cake, she made it to accommodate more than twice the number of people at the reception and they STILL ate it all!

I bought that book for my boys b-day in August. He wasnt nearly as thrilled as all of my co-wokers were, but none the less, a very cool book.

It was a damn good cake!

We all sung a rousing rendition of Sweet Caroline in the queue for it to help pass the time!

I only got 3 of the flavors ... and I'm still bummed I missed out on Chocolate-covered banana.

My favorite thing was "Goat Trick" around the BTMRR table.

Completely off topic, but we did the cake top thing with my first wedding (I had been completely unaware of it though).

And it was eaten on my first anniversary. By my mom. Shortly after I called her (on my first anniversary) to let her know I was getting divorced.

If it got you out of eating year old frozen cake, it was probably worth it.

My mom says it wasn't bad. Maybe quality varies by cake type.

Ours was horrible! ickybad.

I've seen this book and, based on the look of it alone, I was tempted.

Friends of mine saved their top layer when they got married. On their first anniversary, they duly hauled it out of the freezer, unwrapped it, cut in to it, and found it was Styrofoam with frosting on it!

If I remember correctly, Susan didn't want to keep the top layer (neither did I - year old cake does not sound appealing), but made a fresh cake for our 1st anniversary.

The lady who baked our cake bakes you another small one after the first year - included in the price. Which is good, because I doubt the fresh strawberries and Bavarian creme would have survived the freezer.

So, Teresa, do you want churro or chocolate covered banana?

Anyway, I told Ken he's forbidden to look at LoT for the next couple days. :evil:

The poor guy will probably toss and turn wondering what I'm hiding. ;)

It also has a lot to do with how you store it. I wrapped up my sister's last year and they said it was perfect.

We're hoping to do the open house sometime during Thanksgiving weekend (possibly Black Friday to give people a chance to rest after shopping and enjoy a nice home-cooked meal). :)

I also just realized that we suck big time in the etiquette department. According to proper response, we should be mailing our thank you cards by tomorrow. :( They're so nice too! All custom-ordered and everything. Oh well, we'll be fashionably late, and maybe send them in place of Christmas cards this year.... or next. :rolleyes:

We've been married over ten years and we still haven't got all the thank you cards out (not that I think we will be getting any more out at this point).

about the book, awesome choice! B loves reading it and totally ignored the cover. She's learning about tying knots.

He's over at the old place, herding the cats.

I placed it on his pillow, since it's past midnight now. :D

A funny irony about the cake: even though it was baked in my house and I transported it: I never got any :(

I'll take the bait on the cake. It was delicious and I can't believe it's been a year since I've had it!

And I'll take the bait on the book. When I first glanced through it many many many months ago, I thought it was a charming throwback to the quintesstial boy pursuits of wistfully bygone yesteryear ... and never suspected it would become the pop touchstone and cultural megahit it managed to pull off.

Ken loves it! :) He's even learned a few things from it... I wonder if I should be worried. ;)
