He's dead Jim.....Jim??
|
But...but...but they brought Spock back!!!!!
What an egomaniac. |
HOLY CRAP:

I'd be less horrified by this if I hadn't recently seen Pathfinder, one of the worst, most boring movies I've ever seen. And I'm usually all set if you just stick a really awesome battle scene into a bad movie. I can at least say, "But what about that AWESOME battle scene?!" Pathfinder. [shudder] |
Considering that this movie is about the early days of the Enterprise - before the time of the original series - they would be hard-pressed to put Bill (or Lenny) in as YOUNGER versions of themselves.
|
So does Lenny play like his own father or are we in for yet more time tripping....
I've heard rumors that the game plan for this movie is to "Piss off the old fans and rebuild the franchise with a younger audience". But now that I hear Shatner is NOT in the movie this time perhaps that is just scuttlebutt. |
The thing is... while they can rez one of the characters (Spock), it'd be hard pressed all these years later to suddenly resurrect Kirk just to have him in a bit part in a movie.
I am not thinking this is set out to piss off old fans. I'm excited to see it come out, and I'm finding little need to speculate until it's out in theaters. |

WTF??? |
I know that Bill Somebody regretted letting his character be killed off right after "Generations" was finished. He was probably hoping for a miracle so he could play Kirk one more time.

We'll see if the guy can pull it off. |
I've heard rumors that the director is good friends with Tom Cruise, and wants to have him in the film in a small role.
I say "Go for it!" - just put Tom Cruise in a red shirt, have him step into frame during an away team sequence, maybe utter a lil something like "Would you look at that!" then BLAM!!- I'd pay full price to see the film, just for that one sequence. :D |
Reserving judgement. I can buy Spock being in a film, because Vulcans live a long time. I'm not sure about having the other characters replaced, and not have Kirk, but we'll see.
|
Spock was on the maiden crew with Number 1 and Captain Pike, so maybe Nimoy will play Spock's father's father who drops him off at the academy on the first day of space school. The elder Nimoy still has cheekbones, after all.
Shatner, on the other hand, now looks like a demented kewpie doll with his generous red, rosy cheeks, and therefore could only be believable as a Buddy Lee-shaped asteroid that they pass before they finally get back to the V-ger planet in time for the resurrection of the dead bald chick from the very first movie who will proceed to dance with Ricardo Montablan and Joan Collins, who all laugh mockingly at Bill (Mr. Lonely) Shatner. At least, that's what he dreams every night. Heartbroken Bill then hits the convention circuit with all of the acerbic bitterness of 1970s-era Foster Grant shade-tippin' Clayton Moore who wasn't allowed to wear his Lone Ranger mask anymore because they didn't want him to frighten any potential new fans. I'm guessing the meeting with J.J.didn't go well. |
From what I've heard, Nimoy will play older Spock reminiscing at the begining of the movie. The rest of the movie is a flashback.
|
Quote:
Spock? Reminiscing??? That's worth the price of admission right there! :D But if that's the case, it would have been great to start out with an event like a Star Fleet gala party comemerating the USS Enterprise, and have the remaining cast sitting around the table reminiscing how it all began, don't you think? |
I think it would depend on how it was done. Either way though, Kirk is already dead and wouldn't be there.
|
Well, since the actors who famously play Scotty and McCoy are also dead, I think such a scene would make emminent sense.
|
Where's that can-do spirit?
Ricardo Montalban's latex chest is no longer in use.
![]() Put Shatner in that thing and give him at least a walk-on. |
When will they do the Baby Looney Tunes/Muppet Babies/Li'l Bush animated version of the Enterprise crew together as little kids?
Lord, who needs this? |
Actually...during the 90s Sulu, Chekov, Scotty and Uhura were seriously pushing Paramount for a Trek-based sitcom featuring their characters, now retired, all running a Cheers-esque space saloon for Federation crewmembers on leave.
And the occasional drunk Klingon. Mayhem ensues. |
Oi... As if movies 5 & 6 weren't comedy enough....
|
"Hey, Spock, I've been resurrected"
"That is not logical, Captain." |
But as far as we know, Captain Pike lives on!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071108/film_nm/startrek_dc Even though Jeffrey Hunter is long since dead, and can't protest them not casting him to reprise the role. |

ugh....I just outted myself, didnt I? |
I though Robert April was the Enterprise's first commander.
|
That is correct, if the animated series is accepted as canon.
|
I thought Joe Henry Engle was the first commander of the Enterprise - Oh you were talking about Star Trek, not actual spaceflight...

Hmm, I think he looks good as young Spock. Funny, as Sylar, I would have never thought he had the nose to pull off Nimoy, but he's certainly got the pronounded-enough probosis when he's got the pointy ears and hairdo.
Are there any prosthetics involved, or did I just miss the schnoz when I found him very attractive in Heroes? |
I seem to be alone on thinking he looks like a goof as Spock. What is with that monkey lip thing he is doing? He looks like he is about to scratch his armpit and make "ooh ooh" sounds.
|
I think he has lips like Barry Pepper. I think they always look like that. And, as someone who has big lips, I think he looks fine.
:D But if he makes "ooh ooh" sounds during the Star Trek film, I'll totally go see it. |
I think he has that face because he was speaking when photographed.
|
I figure, but a silly face it is so I can't take seriously how he looks.
|
He looks great as a young Spock.
iSm - pretty sure that's his natural face. |

I'm wondering, though, what their takes on the characters will be. Are they going to go with their own spin or are they going to do impersonations of the actors?
|
Either one could be bad....
|
Well, Ewan Macgregor managed to pull off a vague Alec Guiness impersonation without seeming as if it were a mere copycat performance.
They could take a lesson or two from that. But, um, I don't have high hopes for such nuance from, pffft, TV actors. |
