Only the first one be considered "First Edition?" All the rest wouldn't really be worth anything.

She's a smart lady.
Now everyone's going to want one. Ching ching, Ms. Rowling. |
I want one!
|
So when is she going to stop writing Harry Potter stuff and move on?

I don't want one...
|
She's richer than the queen already, why would she stop :)
|
Okay, I want to read it...............
|
|
I'm just a jerk, but this is the kind of thing that if I were filthy rich, I'd buy, and use as a drink coaster at my mansion or something
|
I can't believe that this will never actually be widely distributed. Come on with the massive fanbase? I'd bet it comes out in less than a year.

I think this is just Rowling hyping the idea to get people to drool for it. Then she'll sell it. But first, I bet there will be some ultra swanky leather bound edition that costs like $49 or something like that. Everyone who is a diehard fan will buy it and then the paperback version will come out for like $24.99 or something like that later on. |

Sell the leather bound first and make people think that this is the only version that will be available. Get the fanbase to shell out the big bucks for the deluxe copy. Then a couple of months later she can say because of demand, we'll release the hard cover and then the paperback. I'm thinking as an evil merchandiser might... :D  |

Well, I think that...
Oh, never mind |

Alls I know, if you meet Ms. Rowling and she whispers into your ear, "put this lotion on your skin or else you get the hose again!" -- you run. You run like hell.
|
GC, you can keep the Buffalo Bill edition for yourself.

Sorry, I've been annoyed at her since book 5... |

She's going to write what she is going to write so why not write for a good cause. Some day her fame will be over. She'll be a blip on the pop-culture radar. Our kids will be hearing about the Harry Potter craze on VH1 I love the '00s. |
How quickly do the faithful turn.

What's a limeted edition?
|

I don't put sequels/prequels/side stories/oh wait here's another Hogwarts series etc past Rowling, same way Lucas revived his franchise, especially in 20 years. She's young yet, and even when she goes, perhaps the fan fic will finally get its day on the shelves, if not sooner, a la Lucas' massive book empire, written by plenty of Tom Dick and Harry fanboys, really. If I were Bruce Wayne or some other philanthropic billionaire I'd buy it !! |
She already does give very large sums to charity- she's quite well known for her philanthropy. She's also still pretty famous, so I don't think this is a bid for attention. Believe me, when she gets to be like Oprah I will be the first one in line to criticize, but for now I think she's done a nice thing and I'm not going to knock her for that.
|
And she's got nice boobs

Fairy tale book handwritten, illustrated by J.K. Rowling sells for $4 million

Double You Tee Eff?!?!?!

Holy crap!!! (But hey, if you were going to donate that amount of cash, at least you got something valuable in return.... wouldn't it be a massive tax writeoff? And you could loan the book to a museum for a lot of money for the kids to file by it? And your own kids could sell it for a lot of money if they ever get addicted to crack and are broke?)

Amazon.com to J.K. Rowling: Thank You Quote:

But maybe the stories could appear in another form? |
I was thinking more along the lines of some kind of announcement from Rowling that the book would come out in some sort of mass market media with the proceeds possibly going to charity. She did something similiar with the two (or was it three) books for Comic Relief.
With Amazon putting out "summaries" of the chapeters I'd guess it would put more pressure on her to put them out for everyone. |
|
Whew, I'm glad I stopped myself from bidding 1.68 million pounds.
Close one. |

So "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" came out yesterday. Anyone buy it? Anyone read it?
|
I picked it up at Target last night but I haven't had time to look through it yet.
|
I bought it at Toys R Us today. There was a deal where you got a $5 gift card with purchase. One of the cool things about the book is that there is a commentary after each story by Dumbledore. The stories were very nice, but I really enjoyed the commentary.
|
We got it. My wife says it's great.
