Enchanted
Hmmm looks like it could be cute and fun. I saw this awesome billboard for it today, but the trailer did not live up to it.
Anyone hear anything about this? |
Ella Enchanted? We got that ages ago !! ;)
|
All I know is, I hear "fairy tale princess in modern day NYC" and my eyes can't stop rolling.
|
I wasn't looking forward to it, but at a screening a few weeks ago there were a couple people talking about it (they'd seen it already or at least a significant part) and they loved it so hopes are up.
|
Oh, and this is the movie where when it was announced there would be hand drawn animation it spread around the interwebs like a San Diego brush fire that traditional animation had returned to Disney (it was contracted out and is a minor part of the movie).
|
The previews looked good, so I am looking forward to it. Good to know there is some good buzz out there, Alex.
|
Yep, the preview was adorable. Not a guarantee of goodness, but enough to make sure I will be seeing it.
|
I know someone who saw it at a screening (albeit dubbed into a foreign language), and thought it was a lot of fun. I look forward to seeing it.
|
I have heard very good buzz about Amy Adams' performance. Which doesn't surprise me - I totally fell for her in Junebug.
Also, anything that involves rats and pigeons stepping in for the standard squirrels, bluebirds and mice is up my alley. |
Okay, I guess the trailer caught me in a cranky moment, I know I will see it too.
Just not Thanksgiving weekend! |
All the buzz I've been hearing from this movie is positive, as in, the movie is supposed to be a crowd pleaser (obviously nobody's expecting Gone with the Wind here).

And even if it was outsourced - and even if it was a minor part of the movie - isn't it at least somewhat significant that after declaring traditional animation dead, they've used it in a new film? |
I don't think so.
But certainly not as meaningful as a lot of people took it to be. |
Enchanted.....don't miss it!
Great movie with a great cast. Lots of fun for the whole family!
|
Well I guess no one can accuse you of giving away to much of the movie. ;)
Thanks for the tip. |
Did you see it at an early preview? My family is looking forward to it.
|
Saw it last week at a sneak preview. It is what Disney should be! Good acting, lots of laughs and of course a happy ending!

Awww, now you spoiled it! ;) |
Oops....sorry!

A happy ending is an unexpected ending.
|
B wants to go. I can't wait to take her! :) Thanks for the heads up!
|
It does look cute. Kind of reminds me of the first part of 10th Kingdom.
|
Boy wants to go to the El Cap to see it. At least he did until I mentioned that the princesses will be there..
Now he is saying it would be too girly. |
Any boobies?
|
Hey, El Cap? Hot princess' = awesome!
There is always room for Hot Princess' |
I'm really excited about Enchanted... Can't wait!
|
Got my free passes today, can't wait too see it!

Mmmm, nice lips.
When are we seeing this?? |
Wow. This film is getting good reviews. It's currently a 91% on rotten tomatoes. Not bad...
|
I'm available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, heehee.
|
I've still got AMC Gold passes...
|
Alex's review ran today on MousePlanet. He gave it an 8 out of 10.
|
Saw it, loved it... and there's a strapless dress, but no boobies.

loved it myself... go see it! |
I just got back from seeing Enchanted and loved it.
It's a must-see. :) Spoiler:
|
We had an impromptu LoT gathering at the El Cap, when the Mousepods and the LSPoorTom party bumped into each other at the same screening last night.
It was a delight! A complete delight. And the "experience" out back was worth it if only for the great "informational" display about the Disney references. Spoiler:
Tom mentions that they missed a marketing opportunity - this is a great date movie. If you're a Disney fan, you're the target audience. What are you doing online? Go see it! |
I saw this movie last night with B. I laughed out loud numerous times. As we were leaving B asked "The princess is really good! What other movies has she been in?"
My answer "Nothing you can see yet." She insisted on movie names (again with the caveat that she couldn't watch them until she got older!) and I shared Junebug and Talledega Nights. |
Spoiler:
Loved the movie. It was, no pun intended, completely Charming. My fave bit was the clean-up the house song. Especially the "finale." Yep, a certain great actress was completely underused. But other than that, a marvelously enjoyable movie. Awful good stuff about the many cameos. I'm sure I missed most of them, so keep those cards and letters coming. Also anything about the El Cap stuff, since I'm not going to be making up there for this one. |

Re your spoiler question, the Wikipedia page for Enchanted has this info, though personally I have no recollection of it: Spoiler:
|
One thing I did not understand...
Spoiler:
|
Wow, I don't even remember that.
Does that mean I'll have to see Enchanted again?? |

I LOVE this movie ! |
Matt, Leigh-Ann, and I are in the theater... The movie just ended and my jaw is hanging so low that you would think Matt and I just finished doing something else! Best. Disney. Movie. EVER!
|
I told ya it was good!
;) |
I think Miss B and I will catch this at DTD if it's still running when we get there ....the park closes early a couple days we're there so it would be a great way to end the evening.

My family saw this today. I was afraid with how much I was looking forward to it I would be disappointed, but it surpassed my expectations. I want to see it again! And I need the lyrics to the house cleaning song....that was hysterical.
How much longer is it required to use spoiler tags? |
I say wait til midnight.
Then all spoilers are off! |
Just saw it. A bit cliche (intentionally so for the most part I'm sure) and rather predictable, but very enjoyable. Didn't catch many of the Disney film references I'm sure as I'm not much of a Disney film fan, but what I did get I enjoyed. Thought it was a fun movie.
The shopping scene and the lead up to it were tad too predictable and cliche though. Also, didn't like the transition from the young beautiful animated version of the evil queen to Sarandon. Not sure why they didn't make the animated version a bit more like her actual age and appearance. In the end, I thought it was painfully sweet, funny at times and tons of fun. Agree with iSm that the clean up the house bit was the best part. Not sure it all lived quite up to the hype, but then again I'm sure Disney film geeks will be able to appreciate it on a different level. |
I saw it and really enjoyed it. Brad and LSP's review is dead on and it was just what a Disney movie should be. Yes, a bit to mushy and predictable in ways, but the cameos and the joy of the film are worth overlooking that flaw.
9 bornieo's out of 10! |
|
I finally got to see this last night and it was wonderful. Really sweet and funny.
But there was one part I didn't understand. The girlfriend has just met Giselle and she (the girlfriend) isn't happy. Then the screen goes black but we can still hear the characters talking. Then there's a good minute of the movie theater advertising slide they usually keep on the screen in between showings with some really loud music playing. Then just as suddenly Giselle is back on screen and she's made a dress out of the curtains. (What? The curtains?) That whole sequence didn't work for me. Maybe the film maker was trying to comment on how modern life constantly bombards us with advertising but I don't think it was effective in the context of the film. ;) |
I finally saw this tonight. I loved it. Much better than, and exactly what I expected at the same time.
I missed the cameo appearances, and had a hard time placing what reference was from what movie beyond Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Little Mermaid. |
Sign for Bella Notte Cafe=Lady and the Tramp.
Arguable "Hairspray" cameo for Corny. Cameo I would have liked to have seen: the Ghostbusters showing up at the end. I basically loved it. And it validated my reservations about "Ratatouille" in that there's nothing cuddly about vermin in the kitchen. Poor Timothy Spall. I hadn't known he was in the movie, but as soon as I saw the animated character, I said to myself, "That's going to be Timothy Spall." And, opinions please: my wife and I disagree on whether they had gotten married by the end. I say they hadn't. My wife thought it was just a decision not to show us two weddings in the closing montage. I wasn't so bothered by the required shopping scene, as I was by the equally stereotypical finish where someone starts up a kicky business. |
We just saw it on Christmas Eve. We took all the kids and everybody really enjoyed it. During the beginning animated portion I was a bit worried that it was going to be a dud, but I put my faith in the reviews I read and hoped that what I was seeing had a purpose and was going somewhere. Indeed, it did pay off.
Since we saw it later in the run we were in a smaller theater, but it was still packed. Mostly with kids. But all the kids were very entertained and there were no inappropriate outbursts. There were outbursts though, but the kind that only added to the hilarity on screen. For example, when Giselle tells Edward that she wants to go on a date, my youngest child blurts out (loud enough for the whole theater to hear) "What's a date?" just seconds before Edward asks the same question. At first I was worried my son's outburst would ruffle some feathers, but everyone around us seemed to think it was pretty funny. I did not catch any of the cameos, but I did catch the "Bella Note Cafe" sign. Of course, that one was practically screaming at me. I'm sure we'll be seeing it again when it comes out on DVD so I'll get more chances to see the other easter eggs throughout. |
So, I watched this film again on DVD and still very much love it.
Amy Adams is terrific. James Marsden is hot hot hot. :) |
Just picked it up on Blu-Ray... watching it to-nite!
|
I have not yet seen this and REALLY want to.
As Susan oft sez, I am just a big ol' girl. |
Same here, Kevy. I need to pick this up.
Does anyone know who has the best pricing? |
I would think Wal-Mart, or possibly Target, for a quickie pick it up and watch it right away.
|
Circuit City had it for $13.99.
|
It was $15.99 at Target and you get some sort of exlcusive bonus disk. I haven't watched it yet so not sure what's on it.

And I liked this movie ... but not enuf to buy it. I do want to see it again, so Netflix is my best friend.
|
I need to pick up the dvd too!

So I was sitting here pondering...
Circuit City is $2.00 less than Target (issues aside of whether you get the bonus disk at CC). Assuming that a car gets 20 MPG and figuring gas is about $3.45/gallon, if CC is any more than 5.8 miles further away (11.6 miles round trip), it will still end up costing more to go to CC. And if you use the current government allowance of 50.5¢ per gallon, then if the trip is more than two miles away (4 miles round trip), then it is a losing proposition. Yeah, I need a hobby. |
not really. I often eschew the further-away "bargain" based on the price of gasoline, not to mention the value of my time.
|
I loved Enchanted! Very cute, great music, great performances!
Not much else to say at the moment, and I'm late to the discussion bandwagon, but I liked it and had a good time. |
We watched it tonight. Very enjoyable.
But why does she put the fish in her mouth? Is that a reference to something? |
I don't know, I just thought it was a byproduct of drinking from the fishtank.
But I'm pretty dense in catching cross movie references when they're not holding up a sign explaining them. |

We finally saw it last night. Loved it!!! :snap:
We also own it, so if anyone wants to borrow the DVD, let us know. :) |
I keep trilling that tune to the bunny hoping she'll wash dishes, or at least sweep up. What a useless pet!

At least that's what I do. My dog does a wonderful job! |
Quote:
You are correct. |
He's right that it was the voice of Ariel. But that fish in the mouth is still bizarre. Why? What, as a cartoon princess, would have prompted her to put a fish in her mouth. I mean, I can understand that she'd drink from the fish tank as she'd been drinking from streams and rivers, but she'd have probably noticed the fish in the glass no?
It just seemed so out of left field that I assumed it must have been a specific reference. But then, maybe I'm overthinking and they just used the fish in the mouth as a visual cue that she got the glass of water from the fish tank. Odd gag. |
Isn't the fish scene in Brother Bear?

Thanks to Netflix, I saw it again last night. GC honey, I'm right with you, James Marsden is hot Hot hOt and HOT.
I laughed at myself when I hit the bonus features and blooper reel, forgetting this is Disney, not a swear word in the bunch. :D This one is a keeper, really. |
