This whole lolcats thing has certainly reached some sort of apotheosis - here, the entire Bible is being translatedinto lolcat-speak. Interested parties can take up the translation of remaining passages.

For example, the ever-ubiquitous John 3:16
"So liek teh Ceiling Cat lieks teh ppl lots and he sez 'Oh hai I givez u my only son and ifs u beleevs in him u wont evr diez no moar, k?"

This would be an even better idea if it were illustrated, as my favorite online Bible is, The Brick Testament.

Morrigoon 11-09-2007 11:55 AM

Okay, brick testament amuses me greatly

alphabassettgrrl 11-09-2007 02:15 PM

I will have to look up the Bible-into-lolcatspeak site.

I likes da bunny ones - the bunny with the coffee, and the ... otter? Weasel?The one standing next to the tub of ice. And wasn't that 3 hedgehogs??? So cute.

Alex 11-09-2007 02:16 PM

I believe that is a river otter with the tub of ice.

Chernabog 11-18-2007 04:20 PM

hahah yeah you gotta slow that down hun :)

Cute tho--- and man I was mad when those kids went up on their shoulders in the FRONT OF THE CASTLE.

We waited an hour in front of the castle, just like they did, but their kids are more important than anyone else so they can block everyone's view.

We told them to put their kids lower so that we could see and the guy was REALLY mean and said "too bad, they're kids". People were shouting "down in front! down in front!" and they just ignored everyone, so I had to ask other people to move so that I could see.

I did say really loud "WHAT THAT MAN IS DOING IS REALLY RUDE" and he turned around and shot me a dirty look, but that's all.

Really, I'd be a fan of the squirt gun idea, if it didn't constitute a battery :(
But if you don't get caught.... ;)

Took me a few minutes. St. Bede was an early Christian scholar who established some mathematical rules for calculating the correct date for Easter each year (early calendars were not a good fit for the actual solar year and knowing how to adjust so that Easter could be held on the appropriate date was a major driving force in calendar reforms up through the big adjustment to the Gregorian calendar; very interesting book on all of this here).

So I understood what "Bede watching you Easter date" literally meant. But it took several readings before I caught the audible similarity between "Easter date" and "masturbate" and the connection to the "ceiling cat is watching you masturbate" one.

And now that the joke is over explained it is probably impossible to find it funny. Or, it will turn out, I've still not gotten it.

Actually, for some odd reason, I am quite amused by your explanation. I admire a man who is so willing to put so much effort into getting a joke.

I honestly love that picture so much that words detract from just imagining what that lemur was thinking. Was he trained? One too many "fingers" from the crowd? Random occurrence? It's impossible to know. Well, we could ask the zookeeper, but why would he even answer that, a question best left a mystery.

I think about the lemur too much.

The summer I was in Kodiak working the cannery I saw a bald eagle take a puppy. Does that story distract you from the cat?

BarTopDancer 01-08-2008 10:59 PM

Now I really regret posting that picture.

Not Afraid 01-08-2008 11:17 PM

My brother has lost several kittens to birds of prey. I found 1/2 of a kitten while I was walking a dog one day. It was obviously a local bird of prey that was the attacker.

Capt Jack 01-09-2008 09:45 AM

I saw a very small cat go after a raven the other morning.

all he got was a mouth full of feathers as long as he was. he did however seem quite pleased with himself afterward.

the raven was not amused

Wait. WHEN? I was in Kodiak working the cannery in summer 1998... and YOU?

I saw a bear kill and wolf, and a person kill one of those amazing ravens. :(

Alex 01-17-2008 07:04 PM

Summer 1995. Which cannery? King Crab is where I was at. Worked QA, tearing down the test cans and pulling the USDA samples mostly.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-17-2008 08:28 PM

Is working a cannery in Kodiak one summer a thing to do? Y'know, like backpacking through Europe the summer after high school?

Alex 01-17-2008 08:45 PM

I don't know. I had a friend in college who was from Kodiak and she said it was a decent way to earn a fair chunk of change over a summer. I don't know where Sorhshah is from but up in the Northwest, Alaska cannery and fishing boat jobs are a semi-mythical get rich quick scheme for college students (working boats can be profitable but the first year you're out your share will be really small so you have to go back multiple years if you want to really have a chance at money).

Canneries being a good income turns out to be true but only because you are working for crap wages 16 hours a day, seven days a week so with overtime even crap wages add up, especially when you have no time to spend your money. I think I've shared this before but my cannery hired six workers for the six QA positions so that meant if the cannery was running we were working. Then it turned out to be a record summer for pink and we ended up working 40-something straight 16-hour days. Base pay was $6.25 an hour. Overtime kicked in for more than 10 hours in a day and more than 40-hours in a week, so if you consider Monday the start of the week we were permanently on overtime by Wednesday afternoon. Of the 116 hours per week we worked, only 28 were at base pay (or something like that). So over that six-week peak span I made about $6,000 plus the slower shoulder periods leading up and down filling out the 11 weeks I was there (the first two weeks I worked a total of about 4 hours and almost left thinking I had been completely scammed). For a college kid about $7,000 total was a nice piece of change.

I didn't return the next summer because I got divorced on my return and no longer had a reason to try to accumulate a lot of money in a few months and went to grad school in Hawaii instead.

Either of those is used as the standard transliteration, the second, with the 'h', being more common.

alphabassettgrrl 02-13-2008 01:56 PM

I love the "soul" getting away!

My dogs, however, would never say "do not want" to broccoli. They beg for veggie scraps when I'm cooking. I doubt I could even get them to hold still in front of broccoli long enough to take a picture. :)

The Siamese puzzling over the cupboard lock made me giggle, though the caption is pretty much superfluous.

Capt Jack 02-13-2008 03:13 PM

oh wow. really? not even Chewy the canine dispose-all will touch it that Im aware of (unless of course, cheese sauce is involved).

he will however chew it up and leave it for me to get rid of. hes such a twit

Alex 02-13-2008 03:17 PM

We once had a dog that would eat ANYTHING (including broccoli) except for peas.

It regularly ate dinner leftovers and one of its favorites was tuna casserole. We'd put down a plate of it and it would be gone in 5 seconds and left behind on the plate would be a neat little stack of perfectly clean peas.

blueerica 02-13-2008 03:20 PM

Har har, that dog would hate my cat's current duck and pea diet then...

I think my cat would love to eat just about anything, though. Poor guy. I wish I could give him treats. Maybe I should just have some thawed out peas for treats... I'm not sure he'd eat those without the duck.

alphabassettgrrl 02-13-2008 11:10 PM

My hounds used to chew up celery and not eat it but if I cut it into smaller chunks they like it. They just don't like the strings.

Peas, broccoli, asparagus, green and red peppers (though not the hot kind), green beans, all are recieved as doggie treats. I can't remember what else I've tried them on. They don't like citrus or onions, which is fine as I find out later they are not supposed to have onions or garlic. Or grapes.

Nope, never been to one - I spend too much time at Bible study.

Seriously though - it looks like the pole is INSIDE of her.

The last strip club I went to (with my FIL no less), stated with a girl with what I could only describe as "double breasts" (think "double chin" on her boobs) and ended with a girl who was about 5 months pregnant.

Or does the Potter invisiblity cloak and the Frodo one ring cancel each other out, rendering him completley visible ... and naked ... at school??

Ferocious Attack Kitten

Date: 2008-06-02, 7:10PM CDT

Ferocious attack kitten is available for adoption to any home willing to accept him.

This destructive kitty has been trained as a proud warrior and will fiercely defend your house, even against you. Well-trained since 10-weeks of age to attack anything in his presence, he will protect your family from evil things, including the following:

* insects

* other trained attack kittens

* babies

* toilet paper

* anything under a blanket

* unwanted house guests
* paper bags

* floor rugs

* Chuck Norris

* Feet.

Great with children (assuming you don’t like the children). Probably best used for professional catfighting. He is housebroken, but only because he wants to be. This attack cat has trained himself to seek out his food anywhere you hide it and rip the bag open to feed himself, great for those who travel extensively. Also trained to drink water out of toilet bowls and dishwater from items in the sink. Knows how to open some doors. He will find you wherever you hide.

Neutered (trust me, you wont want to him to procreate). Has not been declawed, but you'll figure that out really fast.

Understands and responds to a variety of vulgar and profane verbal commands. Has a very soft and furry belly, like a teddy bear - however he will bite your face if you try to touch it.

Willing to accept trades. Potential adopters must have experience with trained attack-kittens... please be prepared to show scars.

For the love of God, someone please take this thing out of my house.

Kevy Baby 06-20-2008 11:35 AM

Sounds like most cats :D

Once I manually went to each link and saw the pics, they all now appear for me (cuz they're in my cache). But being the nicer guy that I am, I copied all the pics (except one because it had already been posted here) and have re-linked them here:

SzczerbiakManiac 07-02-2008 04:16 PM

JWBear 07-20-2008 10:00 AM

I had a dream last night where Bill and I came home from a long trip to find that we had forgotten to leave out food and water for our cat. The only thing is, we don't have a cat in RL. Strange....

flippyshark 07-20-2008 10:11 AM

I used to have similar dreams, well before I had my two cats - I remember one in which I was cleaning out my car and found a cat with a litter of sickly looking kittens buried under a pile of fast food bags. I distinctly remember in my dream thinking, "Man, I am the worst pet owner in history!" and feeling deep remorse and depression on waking up.

On the other hand, now that I have (and successfully care for) two beautiful cats, I sometimes have dreams about finding a human infant I forgot I had. So, umm, what the eff!

Betty 07-20-2008 11:13 AM

Perhaps you are pregnant! ;) I used to have those dreams when I was pregnant - and it was either kitties or a very very tiny baby. I would find them in the most unusual places - in the fridge for example.

I chocked it up to being pregnant... maybe not. Although I haven't had a dream like that in years.

alphabassettgrrl 07-20-2008 06:32 PM

I've had dreams about being responsible for infants. It usually means there's something I need to take responsibility for that I'm not seeing.

I always imagined it was pronounced Kit-AIR" (ending in the flat Aussie "Air" sound, not the classic American "AiRRRRRRR". Think Air without the R at the end. Sort of Eh. Like the "e" in Benevolent. Or a Japanese "e"

The comic is titled "Part 1", so there's not a whole lot to get yet.

Anyone want to caption this one - or photoshop a hat on her?

My cats might surprise you. They both respond to me when I call either of their names (but do not distinguish between names - they both come no matter which I call), or when I make kissy noises, trills and other sounds. They are very social, interactive and affectionate animals, for which I count myself incredibly fortunate. I have had a few "go the hell away" cats in years past. (I loved them, too.)

And yes, I just now tried calling out "kih-TAY" and here they are.

In all honesty, we actually DO have a wonderful cat named Rufio. If he is out late, when I go to look for him, he will come when I call him. As long as I give him some scritching before we begin the walk home, he will follow me all the way home and into the house.

Usually.

Some cats treat the help with disdain, some are friendly. But don't think for a moment that, either way, they think us their equals.

Is you my Daddy?

Your "ugly" little tortie is turning into a real beauty. And Thurston is too cute for words.
