Harry Potter & Half Blood Prince - the movie news

Well, November 2008 is the proposed release date.

Ron's snogging partner has been cast, I find the use of the term experienced to be hilarious. Silly sense of humor I guess.

I couldn't find any pix - I would love to see what she looks like.

Also, it looks like they have announced Slughorn - he will be played by Jim Broadbent.

Brilliant casting! He'll be perfect!

Can't take credit for these... Tom sent them to me earlier today.

Good. Now I have a deadline by which to finally finish the book.

innerSpaceman 11-14-2007 01:08 PM

Broadbent's casting is old news, and brilliant.

I just re-read this one, because I frelling hated it ... with an eye toward how it could be adapted into a successful film. It's possible, but will take quite a lot of doing. There's enough in there to make a good movie ... but they will have to do a lot of judicious trimming and re-arranging to avoid the sensation that nothing happens until a really exciting final 20 minutes.

Snowflake 11-14-2007 01:18 PM

Thanks to Tom (and you Heidi) for the links. Broadbent's casting was new news to me and I still say he will be totally brilliant as Slughorn.

I will have to re-read the book, too, I know I did not like it a lot, but I liked it more than Order of the Phoenix, which I still don't like.

Only a year more to speculate on the movie. ;)

See I liked Half-Hard Prince, even if it only amounted to a buildup for an admittedly spectacular ending (and book 7).

At least we know part 7 is good!! So even if if this one is just buildup for the eventual Pottergasm, you know you'll see it opening weekend.

libraryvixen 11-14-2007 05:06 PM

more for me to drool about while I sit in public servitude.

Admittedly, I liked Half-Hard Prince better the second time around ... mostly because I imagined one could play up the Slughorn memory retrieval scams and Ron's snogfest girlfriend problems to good comic effect in a film (and hopefully minimize the snoozefest of Harry's Malfoy obsession and lame Voldemort childhood memory pensieve sessions).

Um, I think Book 7 will need some major adaptation work to make a good film, too.

Hmm, Book 7. Book 7. Anything come to mind, Cherny, when I say Book 7??

I once borrowed a library book titled: "How to Hug" and found that I'd borrowed Book 7 of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica.

Gemini Cricket 11-15-2007 08:42 AM

Cherny,
I have a copy you can borrow...

innerSpaceman 11-15-2007 09:03 AM

Yes, let's all give Cherny our copies of Book 7. He can build a Potter pyramid.

It would fall over and crush him.

Or a ziggurat.

Had to look up that word yesterday.

I just thought of another one....

Spoiler:
I just borrowed a book called "Dare To Fvck" and it turned out to be Volume 4 of the Encyclopaedia.

That's the ruuuuude version...

Kevy Baby 12-06-2008 04:13 PM

The ABC Family Family channel is playing all of the HP movies today and every so often show previews and behind-the-scenes stuff (quick character interviews, etc.) from The Half Hung Prince.

flippyshark 12-06-2008 10:53 PM

Are they still going ahead with the plan to make book 7 into two movies? Because I think that 's unwise. The first movie will get all bogged down in the endless camping trip. bicker - move tent - bicker some more - move tent - oh I did not enjoy that part of the book at all.
