Cherny!! Wii have new games!!
Rayman- Ravin's Rabbids 2!!! It is hilarious! OMG- literally fall over laughter from my family last night.
Super Mario Galaxy- so far has turned my brain upside down but it is awesome! Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles- have not tried it yet but I am a big fan of RE- so I hope it lives up to my hopes (nothing near the bang of RE4- but still) Got anything new??? |
Wait, did you ever get a guitar, Joan Nephy Jett?
:) |
Hey Neph!!! I got Super Mario Galaxy!!! I've gotten about 28 stars I think so far? Been playing it EVERY nite it is so fun!
The other two that you got, I want to get also -- but there's some compy games I want first I think -- Bioshock, and The Witcher. What do you think of RRR2 when compared to the first one? I heard it is more of a party game than the first... what's your take? I SORT OF also want to get Guitar Hero 3 now, but it seems expensive and I don't know whether toget it for the Wii or the Ps3. |
Quote:
Guitar Hero 3 with Wireless guitar for my PS2 Guitar Hero 1 and 2 Guitar Hero Rocks the '80s and a second guitar (though not wireless) I have it all baby! (It's a sickness...but I can admit it ;) ) |
Why'd u go with GH3 on the Ps2 instead of the Wii, may I ask?
|
Quote:
I have only saved one great star so far- I was exhausted last night when I picked it up. Do you get used to the views? I felt like my eyes needed to be on swivels! I also picked up a Wii for my parents for Christmas- I wonder what games I should get them.... RRR2 is a little different from the first one-you go on "trips" either solo or in a group. It then runs you through a set of 6 games- with more trips/costumes and other things to open as you play. You can also free play anything you open. The games are hilarious and silly- In the opening Rayman disguises himself as a Rabbid- and this one Rabbid is suspicious of him and pulls out a copy of the first game and stares at it- then at Rayman- then back again.....it's funny stuff. I'm glad to hear Galaxy is good-can't wait to play more! (I bought all my Christmas presents early!) |
Quote:
Only the 3rd game is available for the Wii- so if I wanted all four, and did not want to change systems to play it- the PS2 was the way to go. |
Yeah, waaaaay cheaper to stick with PS2. And it's a decent system. (Not that Wii isn't... but Wii has a greater expense because of the need for a new controller)
I'm gonna get Mario Galaxy for Alex for Christmas. And Bully, I think. |
The fact that I could only have all 4 games by doing it on the PS2 was the deciding thing for me though-
|
I gotta Wii
Where's the restroom? |

My only must have for this current new game frenzy is Super Mario Galaxy. I'll get around to getting it at some point, I guess, but I'm just so busy right now with all kinds of projects I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel from here. Maybe in January.
GD really wants GHIII and there's no way I could say no to that. :) |
Quote:
And Rayman (either 1, or 2, or both) And Final Fantasy when it comes out I'm also keeping an eye on a game in development called "Blocks". Looks like a good puzzle game, haven't had one of those in a while. |
Wii-nie.
I gotta remember that one. :D |
Getting Wolfette a Wii for Christmas.....silly question, but what else do I need to buy to make it work well for all three of us Christmas morning? An extra controller set?
Best ideas for games for an 11 old would be helpful also, that is if you know an 11 year old with a Wii! |
^^ You should get at least one extra controller and one extra nunchuck. The Wii comes with "Wii Sports" which makes use of those things.
"Wii Play" is a game that comes WITH an extra controller (it is actually just $10 more than a controller on its own) so that's worth it to get. Other accessories that you should get are a NYKO (brand) charger stand, which comes with rechargeable batteries, since the Wii remotes eat up batteries. Also, if you have a component video-in on your television (i.e. your "video-in" input has red-blue-green plugs instead of just one yellow plug) then you'll want to get a component video cable for the Wii, which allows it to display in higher resolution. http://monoprice.com/products/produc...seq=1&format=2 ^^ get your component video cable from that site, since it costs like $6 instead of $30 retail. Games to get: Super Mario Galaxy is a must-buy. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is a lot of fun (single player). Rayman's Raving Rabbids (1 or 2) would be fun to get for "party games", as would Mario Party 8. Super Paper Mario is fun too! |
For three- it is worth picking up enough Wii Motes and Nunchucks for all
|
Toys R Us is having a sale on their website -- buy 2 Wii games and the third one is Free! Worth doing.

OK, now we might be getting a Wii for Wolfette.....can't find them in stock anywhere!!!!!
|
It's gonna be tough hun to find one around this time -- here are some tips:
Take a day to go around to your local stores which would carry the Wii. It is best to do this in the morning. ASK them if there are any in stock/in the back, or when the stock usually comes in, because there won't be any on the shelves. Go to the usual stores -- Best Buy, Gamestop/EB Games, Circuit City, Target, Walmart -- but you may have better luck at stores where you wouldn't normally think of buying a Wii -- such as Kmart (where I found mine) and Sears. When you do your Wii run, ask the sales clerk if there's a way to call in and see if there's any in stock. Sometimes when you call and there are systems in stock, they'll hold one for you for like, an hour (obviously this is dependent on the clerk). If you do a "Wii run" every few days then eventually you will get lucky and find one in stock. Heck, it can even be fun since you'll be at stores where it's fun to look around. I got one last February, and it took a few weeks once I started looking... and again, found one at Kmart when I asked the clerk if there were any in stock -- she said there was one left and brought it out from the back. There are places like "aaahs" that usually have one in stock -- but at a drastic markup (i.e. like how Amazon sellers are marking them up, ugh). The Wii costs $249.99 retail, period. If you pay more than that, you're getting ripped off. |
Just picked up Super Mario Galaxy.
Can't wait to fire it up. |

Got it! And all the goodies to go with! Woohoo!
|
Very cool!
I played Rayman with my parents last night- of course they have no clue there is a Wii in the closet for them. I love that this year I am getting my parents something like the Wii instead of them getting it for their kids- |
Warning Cass.....accessories are in short supply also, so get down to the store and buy what you're going to need. Tim found this out this morning from the game store he went to. They are expecting shortages very soon.
|
Anything dealing with the Wii is in short supply... its because of its popularity and price stance...
Personally I love mine... so worth going to target at 5:00am on a Saturday in February... in shorts and a t-shirt when it was around 50f.... Mom is getting me new games for Christmas... hopefully also thrillville off the rails! I currently only have a "few" games... and a few from the internet like sonic 1. |
Quote:
My brother has done his part- picked up WiiPlay, which comes with a Wiimote and he grabbed a game for them as well (Cranium)- he still needs to grab the Nunchuck but said he would soon- so he may have it already. |
I'm still totally sucked into Resident Evil 4 -- I'm on Chapter 4-1, and it's getting REALLY difficult!!! Those armored plagas suck the big one!
I was sort of skeptical about the game because it took me SO long to get used to the control scheme, but now that I have it down it I realize why people tout it as one of the best games on the Wii. Oh and also I beat Super Mario Galaxy :) <3 that game!!! |
Are you talking about the round room with the knight-type guys? Big PITA, mostly because Ashley kept getting in the way. Do you have any mines? They work pretty good, but get the hell out of the way when they explode. Also, when they turn into Plagas lob a flash bomb at them- wipes them out instantly. The area I hated was the sewers, when those invisible Plagas thingies would just attack out of nowhere. Creepy.
|
We're still holding off on new game purchases until after the gift-giving season. Meanwhile, I've finally picked Zelda up again after a couple months of not playing. Almost finished. 10 more poe souls to find and off to find Gannon. I've got all the heart containers and have finished the 50 level cave thing, whatever it was called (2nd try, with potions to spare!). I still love the game, but am looking forward to it being over.
|
Quote:
I just took out my trusty shotgun (or riot gun, at the time) and unloaded :P Yeah I think I know the sewer part you're talking about -- it took me a few tries but once you know where they are it is easy, of course. The part that made me totally scream the other day was the hedge maze -- friggin doggie jumped thru the bush and lets just say it's a good thing I had the wrist strap on!!! Out of curiosity, how many play-thrus did it take before you got the million pesetas for that tommy-gun thing? The one with unlimited ammo and stuff. I would imagine tho that even the second play-thru is MUCH MUCH easier (both to complete, and to get pesetas), even without that gun.... don't you keep all your weapons, upgrades and items? Quote:
But yeah if you go for ALL of the items/poes/heartpieces, etc. (I got every damn one of them myself) then by the time you get to the end of Zelda it is sort of a relief! There was that one section of the game where I did nothing but collection for like, ever. And how many tries did it take you to beat Bjork on that sled race!?! I swear that bitch cheats. You can't say it wasn't worth the money for the game! I hate paying full price for games that are 6-8 hours long. I figure, with games like Zelda, it's like buying a whole season (and then some) of a show on DVD, value-wise. Not that a long game equals a good game of course, but I feel gypped when I'm paying $10 an hour to play a video game. |
Quote:
I tried to space the collection stuff out, do a few between each major plot point. Kept some variety going. But now I've got all the hearts, all the bugs, all the other side-game items, just down to those 10 poe souls. And it's going to be tedious as hell because I haven't been methodical at all in collecting them so even with a list, I have no idea which I have and haven't gotten. Oy. |
Good lord, gaming is starting to sound like a full-time occupation!
|
Starting to?
|
I got the Chicago Typewriter mid-way through the second game. You get to keep all your stuff, so I just sold most of my upgraded equipment and got the gun and the unlimited rockets. You go through the game much faster with those.:D

I would definitely play it with a store-bought guide though. There are whole areas and quest lines that I would never have found otherwise. And be sure you do all 4 of the guilds (fighter, mage, thief and dark brotherhood) questlines besides the main plot -- they each have storylines unto themselves that could almost be a stand-alone game. Oddly enough, the only thing I didn't like about Oblivion were the Oblivion levels. They just seemed too easy and repetitive. |

My parents, who HATE video games (mostly because they couldn't get me off of them growing up) REALLY get into the Wii when I bring it over to their house.
They especially love the bowling, which is funny because I can't think of one time I've ever seen my parents bowl, talk about bowling, or express any interest in bowling. My dad kicks my butt at Wii Sports bowling!!!! |
Right, but this way they can bowl and feel all retro without actually having to be seen in a bowling alley (I can't picture your mom in a bowling alley, LOL)
And there's that whole not-throwing-out-your-back-with-a-10-lb-ball thing ;) |
The thing that I love about Wii bowling is that the games are fast -- you don't have to wait for the friggin ball to come back :)
And yeah, my mom in a bowling alley is like my mom denouncing Nordstroms. Ain't gonna happen. :D |
73 Stars in Mario, and counting. I'm doing a lot of the comet levels now and holy dear lord are they evil.
Resident Evil 4.... let's just say I'm a little obsessed with it now. I'm on the second to last chapter (just killed "It" and Jack Krauser... talk about fracking intense/difficult battles!!) and I'm almost to the end. Totally looking forward to doing the "Separate Ways" and "Assignment Ada" missions too -- hellbent on that Chicago Typewriter weapon. I think it'd be wicked to just run around mowing everything down. Wendybeth, if you go thru the game a second time, do you keep all your weapons at the end of the second playthrough for playthroughs 3+? Money is kinda tight right now tho, unfortunately -- there's that whole "Xmas Gifts" and "Cruise" thing to pay for soon -- so I guess GHIII and/or DDR will have to wait until after a tax refund :P |
Yes, you do- so long as you play on that save game section. I've been taking a break from it, but I think I need to play it again.:D
|

No, I haven't- I'll have to go and check the website. Too cool- a new Splinter Cell and a new RE to look forward to!
|
Glad to hear you like RE4. I bought it for Alex and he later said he had no interest in it - but qualified that by saying it was because he's not familiar with the game. It was cheap though, so I'm not returning it. Just glad to hear he'll probably like it :) Got him some other games he specifically asked for, like Mario Galaxy.
|
I can't imagine he won't like it, Morri- it really is fun. It's not a game I would have normally picked up, but I am so glad I did.
|
It keeps my interest for about 40 minutes once or twice a week. I'm in Chapter 3 somewhere (I don't know how many there are).
It is very old school in that action is very linear and movements paths are pretty rigidly defined with minimal puzzles. It took me a bit of adjustment to get back into that mode of thinking. I'm enjoying it (and have come to appreciate the controls though that is still a reason I start to weary after about 40 minutes) though. |
WOOOOOT! I beat RE4 last night. Blasted that bitch into oblivion -- on my very first try too! Now that I don't need any power-ups or anything for the second run-thru, it was funny to play the first part of the game again with the souped-up weapons.... really the very beginning was the hardest part of the game for me! But this time around - bambambam with my Exclusive Red9 and those bastards dropped too their knees faster than Paris Hilton. Aaah, bliss!
|
Now you have time to look around for all the goodies you might have missed first time around because zombies were trying to rip your head off.:D
|
GD and I have been messing around with the Wii Sports fitness thing. It's wonderfully silly. At one point I supposedly had the physique of a 72 year old. :p
Our addiction to Everybody Votes and Check Mii Out is undeniable. They don't update fast enough! I never thought I'd actually mess with making strange Miis, but now I made a gingerbread man for the contest, and I can't wait for the next one. :D Too much fun. Interesting though, all 3 of these "games" involve competition, and 2 involve competition between GD and I. No wonder we love them. ;) |
Yeah, the everybody votes thing IS addicting... but there aren't enough questions each time around!

As far as Mario Kart is concerned, Alex, we are supposedly going to be able to play against friends in the Wii network (the game isn't out yet tho). The Wii hasn't been too hot so far with online content (Everybody Votes, Email and downloadable Virtual Console games do not an "online experience" make). It'll be what Xbox Live is now, or what the Ps3 Home is going to be (if it ever comes out, bastages).

Ok this is so incredibly wrong. And yes, just to warn you, it is incredibly offensive to Christians, but that seems to be my theme of the day anyway, so I'm just running with it. :P

Used Hanukkah gelt to buy Mario Galaxy yesterday. Lordy, the game is craaazy. Love it.
|
Quote:
Heh it took me a bit to get used to the controls (I guess like all Wii games it isn't QUITE as intuitive as you'd think), but once I figured it out... wowie. How many stars have you gotten? And aren't the star bits cute when they make that "I'm really REALLY constipated here!" noise? I love the little voices, except of course for Mario right at the beginning when he says "SUPER MARIO GALAXEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" Yeesh that's obnoxious. Just wait until you get the first 30-35 stars (pretty easy) and then... holy moses the levels get evil evil evil. Nephy where are you in the game? For Hanukkah last nite I got Rayman's Raving Rabbids 2 (for the Wii) and Bioshock (for the PC). I'll tell you how RRR2 is (the reviews have been mixed, but then again, I think they were mixed for RRR1 also and I loved that one). I know it's off-topic for this thread, but Bioshock is a seriously scary and amazing game (at least, the first hour of it is, which is where I've gotten so far). The sound design and graphics totally blew me away... I listen to my PC with good headphones, and Bioshock is so immersive that I was up till 2am on a work night!! I also have some credit and gift certs with Best Buy so I'm planning my next move. Maybe I'll actually buy a Ps3 game, haha! (I've had the system since the beginning of August, and haven't bought one game for it -- tho I use nearly every day it for my Bluray player/DVD upscaler/Ps2 game player...) Or maybe... Dance Dance Revolution? (Seriously, I like Guitar Hero on some level, but it isn't worth the $180-210 (!!!!) investment in 2 guitars and the game.... DDR is like $90-$125 for 2 dance pads and the game). Mario Party 8 would also be a fun group game, but for that I'd definitely need 2 more Wiimotes. ($80 [of course, I'd get one remote with Wii Play] plus the $60 game is $140). It's getting to the point though where I'm just purchasing faster than I can play em, lol! When I finished RE4 (and decided to take a break before doing Assignment Ada/Separate Ways) I looked at my games and went.... holy cow where do I go from here? It's like when you want to read a book and you're just staring at that massive bookshelf with all those great titles that you've always wanted to read... and can't decide so you just go to the gym ;) Quality problems though, right? :) |

Y'all remember PaRappa the Rapper? The game had a pretty inane theme, but the gameplay was actually really fun. Well, the makers have apparently agreed to make a Wii exclusive game, for release late next year. Details are sketchy, not sure if it will actually be a PaRappa game or something else. All I've seen so far is that it will be "music based".
|
wasnt that a PSP game?
And if I am correct, how'd they get it to cross platforms like that? |
Quote:
As for crossing platforms, happens all the time. There are plenty of games that are released simultanously on multiple platforms (Madden, Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, etc.). And there are plenty of series that start on one platform, but end up on another with later editions. Depends on who's offering the developer the best deal (both in terms of money and creative freedom). |

I used to work at a game developer - but it's been a while. |

But either way, the basic reasoning still stands - if a company offers a good enough deal (whether they pay the developer whether they just discount the amount that they're taking from the developer), then the developer will cross platforms. |

Also, they basically took out the storyline. So far it is all just series of mini games, which the first one was too, but at least it seemed like you were working towards a goal. AND they took out stuff like, even the titles aren't as good -- something in RRR1 which would be titled "Bunnies don't like to drive cars" would be titled "Car Race" in RRR2. Descriptive, yes, but not cutesy. There are "rail shooter" sequences like in the first one, except that before it was moving thru CG sets with quick reloads, and you could grab and throw bunnies that got too close. Now, you have rail shooter sequences thru real video settings, with the bunnies jumping out at all directions, it takes a few seconds to do each reload, and you can't grab the bunnies. It is more difficult, less cute, and less fun. Maybe the party game stuff will be fun, but honestly, the single player mode isn't recommended (whereas I would definitely recommend RRR1). Worth a rental, perhaps, but not a purchase. |
Was that Mario Party 8 we were playing on Saturday? That was cute.
|

So, I'm guessing that getting 100 coins in a galaxy nets you a star, a-la the previous Mario games. But what about getting all the coins in the rolling hamster ball level? Would I get a reward for that, or will I just go batsh!t insane trying?
|
Quote:
There ARE "collect 100 coins" levels, which are the purple comet levels that only appear after you defeat the final Bowser and return to the game. And some of them will, indeed, make you insane ;) Some of them have 100 coins scattered throughout a level that you have to find; in others, the coins are right there in your face but you need to collect them and get the resulting star with a short time limit. There's one in particular that I simply cannot for the life of me figure out how to do... |
OK so I just read gamespot's review of Rayman's Raving Rabbids 2 and were pretty much spot on with what I thought (even down to declaring it was worth a rental but perhaps not a purchase). The saving grace though -- they said the multiplayer was where the game shined, and the single player stunk (opposite of RRR1). So when do y'all wanna come over for some fun with lagomorphs? ;)
|
Quote:
I got the purple comet level without defeating the final bowser. You access it in the Gateway Galaxy. (along with the Red Star) :) I may try the final Bowser tonight, but may wait till I finish the Garden Galaxy. |
Quote:
That's odd about the Purple Comet, I remember that it only appeared in my game AFTER I killed bowser (then it said something about the purple comet being in play when I accessed that game again). I'm reading a FAQ and it also says that the purple comets (collect 100 purple coins levels) will now appear in certain galaxies after you defeat the final Bowser. I remember the level you are talking about (with the red stars); maybe it's the only one that can be accessed pre-final Bowser? |
Quote:
So...when is the game supposed to get hard? I just defeated the final Bowser on my first try. I have 101 stars. And there's been exactly 1 level that's taken more than 4 or 5 tries to beat (the molten level w/daredevil comet. Damn did that suck). Don't get me wrong, I loved the game. Conceptually brilliant, a great new twist on Mario. But, much like Zelda, I wish it were more difficult. The last couple Mario games ("Sunshine" and "64") I found far more difficult than this one. I really found myself wanting more of a challenge. Of course, I've just begun the purple comet levels, I'm sure that'll add some challenge. But to have gotten through more than 90% of the game without one was a bit of a disappointment. I also realized I missed the open-endedness of the previous two 3d Mario games. I know they made the decision to return to a more linear feel, back to what the games used to be, but I really enjoyed being able to wander huge levels at will in Sunshine and 64. That, to me, contributed to the lack of difficulty. Every step was kinda obvious since everything was so linear. Oh well, fun game overall. But it does seem like these games are skewing too easy (see Zelda) for my tastes, which kinda sucks. |
Quote:
Zelda was pretty easy for me as well tho (with the exception of that damn Bjork sledding part and the 3 Darknuts in the pit). But it is more of a puzzle game anyway. Try Resident Evil 4, that was pretty difficult (a different type of game, of course). But if you're looking for Goblins 'n Ghosts or Castlevania I-style difficulty... no, they're not up there. |
Quote:
Quote:
Quote:
Oh well, it was a brilliant concept and artistically wonderful. Did you run across any bugs? The second time I had to fight Bowser, after a couple jumps he missed the planet on the way down and just flew off into space, never to return. I had to bail back to the observatory. It was bizarre. |
Quote:
|
Alex finally cracked open Galaxy last night. Some of those levels are really cute, and I see what you mean about thinking spherically.
|
I've just started Galaxy and am finding it fun enough (though I continue to have ergonomic issues with the controller, that hamster ball level particularly) but it is, so far very easy. I think I've only died multiple times on a level once.
Hopefully it will get harder or I'll probably grow bored enough that "cute" is no longer sufficient. Conceptually brilliant, though. |

I did it. I freaking did it!!!!
Took me about 40 tries to beat that level, but I bloody did it. 120 stars. And now I've beat final Bowser twice, which we've gathered means I get to play as Luigi (I'm still sitting through the ending sequence to find out). I swear, that Luigi's Purple Coins level is like playing an entirely different game. 1000 times harder (okay, 8 times harder if you go by the number of lives it took to beat it) than any other part of the game. I can't even give a good hint for it. You just kinda gotta go for it, run like mad, jump and spin a lot. I guess the best bit of advice is that there are WELL over 100 coins there, so don't stress about getting every last one. My strategy ended up being starting off by heading to the right where there's a couple long rows of coins to get with a long jump. If you get most of those right off the bat, you're in good shape. |
^^ Cool I'll try that next time I play the game. Congrats!!!
I rented "Heavenly Sword" for the Ps3 this weekend so I've been engrossed in that. The graphics are jaw-dropping! Andy Serkis is the evil king (motion capture + voice)... it's a short game (6 hours, so worth a rental) but totally blown away by how amazing the scenery and game play are. |
current addiction- Super Paper Mario
OMG that game is awesome!!! |
Just ordered Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge. It's got curling!!
|
Heh I sorta went apesh*t last year on the game buying I realized -- went to best buy armed with gift certificates and went... hmmmm I don't actually want ANYTHING right now. Really, there ain't much except some ps2 games that I can get used at Gamestop.
|
Is the curling two player so one curls and one sweeps?
|
And on the Super Mario Galaxy front, I am up to about 60 stars and find I am losing steam. Getting a little bit repetitive in its uniqueness (yes, an odd phrase and also somehow the way it feels) without really getting any more difficult. I've run into a few more levels where there is some short sequence of moves that take me a few attempts but nothing conceptually hard.
But still playing. |
Curling? No f'ing way. We are coming over to play with you!
I just played Zelda for the first time last night. Had the game for like 5 months but never opened it. Looks like it is going to be fun, but starting out slow. Perhaps I actually need to read the instructions for this game? Also had a bit of fun with the new Mii channel thing where you can share Mii's with the world. Downloaded a choice selection of the top 50. Can't wait to play tennis with Batman. |
Really liking Tennis. Not sure about baseball (but I suck at it in real life too). Boxing is a bit confusing - it doesn't always punch where I throw my punches. I'll do a straight punch and it will throw a hook. Kinda weird. But I've won the rounds I've played so far!
Next up: WiiPlay Raymond Raving Rabbids (should I get 1 or 2) |

1 = great single player and okay multiplayer. 2 = okay single player and fun multiplayer. Bottom line though I liked 1 better. |

Cherny has convinced me to get a PS3, for both the gaming aspect as well as the blu-ray capablilities. There are basically 4 models to choose from (two are discontinued, two are currently available at most retail outlets): the 20gb - which I don't want because it has no wifi, the 40gb - which I don't want because it has 0 backwards compatibility and two fewer USB ports than the others, the 60gb - which appears to be the best one because it includes the PS2 emotion chip for hardware-based backwards compatibility, and the 80gb - which is the 60gb with no emotion chip and a slightly bigger hard drive. The backwards compatibility is not a huge issue for me - I still have an old PS2 - so I've decided that either the 60 or 80 will do. For the past week, I've been looking for bargains on craigslist, but instead I seem to have come across more rip-offs than I expected to find, and am a little nervous about dealing with someone who advertises there. (One example: a guy lists an 80gb for $80 less than retail and says "new in box. I will provide you with a receipt." I know that in order to take advantage of a blu-ray promotion, you need a sales receipt, so I assumed that he got this as a gift. I asked him where the PS3 came from. He told me "a wholesaler." I asked him about the receipt. "I'll give you a receipt from Target." Creepy.) Does anyone here have any suggestions on getting one of these machines? Should I just order one through amazon.com (which seems to be the cheapest legit source for a new one)? |
That does sound a bit shady. Sounds like it "fell off the truck" somewhere.
For something like this I'd go with Amazon, or see if you can find a deal on eBay (but use PayPa) Be sure to use a credit card for double extra protection with both Amazon or eBay. Or keep checking Target and Best Buy. |
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PS3-60GB-...9908208&sr=8-1
^^ Problem is, the cheapest one is at a markup. I'd try for a 60gb model for sure -- for one thing, your ps2 games get upscaled as well via the system itself. But really, if it isn't worth the premium to you, then get an 80GB model off of amazon. Free shipping and no tax, plus any bluray offers that are out there you can take advantage of (be warned, the mail-in free bluray offer takes a long time to process, and the movies are semi-pre-chosen) Best Buy was having a sale recently where they were including a lot of free bluray movies with the sale of a player (I know Al got like 8 free discs or something, he actually was able to take free blurays directly home from best buy with the purchase), but I don't know if that's only for standalone players. Of course, you're paying tax.... but it might be worth it IF they're doing that "free bluray" offer with purchase. The other caveat with the Ps3 are of course the games themselves -- I mostly use mine for ps2 games (cuz I never had a ps2). I have played some Ps3 games, which are GORGEOUS but I have yet to actually purchase one. Hopefully this year will bring more fun stuff to the table (like an actual long RPG, please!) |
Super Smash Brothers Brawl is out.
Want. |
Haven't played it yet -- I just bought 2 new games (ps2 games, actually) so I'm waiting till next payday :)
|
Beware- My son had been waiting for Super Smash Bros Brawl, we even preordered it, but it doesn't work. We had to send in the whole Wii and the game to Nintendo yesterday. The boy is crushed!!
Gary, who works with Microsoft, says they messed up big time. He thinks the first Wii's off the assembly line weren't capable of handling the new dual "something" disk (Sorry, i know no geek speak) so the machines have to go in for a patch. They tried to send you a patch via the Wii but it didn't work. Gary said there are a lot of PO'd Wii customers according to some Nintendo board. He suspects it was only the first batch, that didn't have the right stuff, don't remember what he said. I just know I have a heart broken child with no Wii and no new game! |
Dual layered DVD writing. The laser and graphics on some of the early Wii's can't handle it.
|
Wow that sucks!!! I'm picking up the game today so I'll see what happens. The game didn't brick the Wii, did it?
(Played it last nite at a friends house soooooooooo fun!) Cirque, when did you get your Wii? (Mine was purchased in Feb 2007) |
I was the crazy parent camping outside Walmart with my 9year old son until midnight. So we got one of the first ones off the asembly line. It didn't break it, I made the kid check other games and it worked just fine. You should have seem his face when I mailed it off though!
The good news is Nintendo said they received our Wii and will have it back to us in 2-5 business days. So I've been trying to explain business days to an 10 yr old, who is very impatient!! I hope yours works with no glitches, good luck! |
Mine works, played for 2 hours on various modes (even got Mr. Gn2Dlnd to play lol) and no problems. Played online some also :) :)
How did you know if it doesn't work? Does it glitch up while playing, or just not load to begin with? Anyway, good luck with it!! It's totally fun, and let me know if you want to friend add me -- there's DIFFERENT friend codes for SSB than your regular friend codes for the Wii. Yeah, I'm serious :-\ It tells you of course in game, so if you want to play with a specific friend it'd just take a phone call of code exchanges. Also you can watch games and bet on characters, or play random games with random people. Plus there's regular smash bros AND a "storyline" game :) Plus..... well there's a lot more too. It's pretty crazy. Word of advice though -- it does NOT use motion controls whatsoever, so do NOT use the Wii + Nunchuck setup. It's ridiculously difficult. The best setup for me is actually the Gamecube controller, but it doesn't make cutesy noises of course when you choose a toon. The sideways Wiimote works great tho too (I haven't played yet with the classic controller). Really fun game! |
*still waiting for Mario Party's price to drop*
|
Quote:
However, if there's games that you don't play anymore, you should get a Gamestop/EB games card ($15/yr), which entitles you to 10% EXTRA on used trade-ins, and 10% off used games, plus a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine. So it's worth it if you spend more than $150/yr in video games. Of course, I have one so we could always go together and use mine. :) Trade in a game that you've beaten or no longer play, AND get extra $4 or so bucks off the used price with the edge card, and you can get Mario Party in the $30 range. They're also having a special right now (until the 16th) that you get an EXTRA $10 credit if you trade in two used Wii games. Also, there's a special right now for Smash Bros Brawl for $9.99 with the trade in of two select Wii games. Since I traded in two from that list that I no longer play, AND got an extra 10% credit with my edge card, I literally got SBB for $7. http://www.gamestop.com/gs/trade-ins/trade-ins.asp <--- check out that link. |
Our Wii is on it's way home according to Fedex, the boy is doing the happy dance! Now hopefully no more disc error and we can finally play the long awaited game!
I'm hoping this means he will be pleasantly occupied and I can sneak to the neighbors for a pampered chef party. |
So, I'm not sure if I should be happy or mad. Our Wii just arrived but it is a different Wii, so we have lost all of our data :( . Don't they understand how long we have worked on some of those games!! They also sent us a different copy of SBB than the one we purchased.
So Zach is torn, his Wii is home but he's lost every game score he ever had! I guess at least it works now. |
Wow, that's pretty lame.
|
Oh no!
Can you call Nintendo? It may be a mistake! |
Hopefully Gary will call tonight so I can sic him on Nintendo. All the accounts are in his name and I can't seem to log into his profile.
At least Zach has just turned the game on and he's dancing with his controlller! The graphics look cool so far. I'm off to watch and play! |
I would definitely call Nintendo on that one. Is there a different Wii address book number and everything? You should be able to download all the Virtual Console games that you had if it's the same Wii address number, or Nintendo should reimburse you all the Wii points.
Can't the Wii memory stuff be output to an SD card? (I know for SSB you can do that, but not sure about the Wii internal memory for other games). I'm sorry about that, I'd be POed too if that happened to me. |
So after much tinkering we have found our games that we own a physical copy of BUT all the games that we downloaded and paid for with Wii points are gone. You can see them but you can't access them! I wonder how we figure this out. I'm sure Gary knows how many points we've purchased and such so I guess he'll deal with it.
Our Wii points are still there but we are missing check mii out, everybody votes and the internet channels, at least that's what we've figured out so far. I like the everybody votes channel, it was part of the fun! I'm sure when Dad comes home this weekend him and the boy will go through it all. Good news though, we are enjoying SBB so far! But man it's been a pain in the ass! |
Ugh... I still want a Wii. I am afraid that we will have to give up our desire to have things the moment we buy them and *gasp* order one online. Probably after I get my first paycheck. :D
But, in other news, I found this to be pretty funny. |
Soooooooo Super Smash Bros. Brawl..... who wants to trade codes and play me?
|
Good news: Rock Band for Wii has been announced for June this year.
Bad news: It will not include online play or the ability to download songs. I might have to email my insider to get to the bottom of that decision. |
I touched the Wii for the first time in something like 3 months yesterday.
And yet whenever I'm in a store I still look through the games like I might actually play it if I bought one. |
I played it for the first time over the weekend. I beat up a couple of professional opponents in the boxing game. Good fun, but it wasn't quite as subtly responsive as I thought it would be.

Does the Wii even have the storage space to download songs and whatnot? I thought that you can do a memory dump to an SD card, they should have the Wii Store have the games (like the Playstation Store), and then you just download the new songs to SD cards, which are super cheap.

I interrupt this thread to say that I have developed X-Box 360 elbow. Seriously- I've blown through Oblivion and Assassin's Creed twice, and am now in the desert battling Nazi's in Call of Duty 2. My left arm is killing me, but not enough to stop.
|
Should I get Raymond 1 or 2? Mostly going to be one player, but once in awhile it may be 2 people playing.
Also, besides Mario Galaxy and SSB, what games should I get? Finally, has anyone seen the Wii in stores? My parents want one, but I really don't want them to pay the scalper pricing for it. |

Quote:
Thanks! |
Raymond 1 is better than Raymond 2. Although R2 is a little easier to navigate on the multiplayer, the games in R1 are overall much better/more fun.
|
Raymond 1 it shall be.
|
As much as I am opposed to using eBay for this, I just won one off of there. My dad is going to be so excited. And it was only $10 over retail.
|
$10 MORE than retail!?!?
|
Yup. For the physical machine anyways. $261.24
But I think I got an amazing deal. From what I figured (and my math may be flawed) retail would be $249+19.30 in tax = $268.30. I paid $291.24 (includes $30 shipping). When mine was shipped to me from my friend, I paid a grand total of $280something (including shipping). |
Ohhhhhhhhhhh I thought you meant $10 more than retail for the GAME, so I was like.. WTF.. lol... no $10 more than retail for the SYSTEM is no biggie :) Good buy, and no running around to the stores, so good job!
|
:D Quite excited. Pretty much paid what I paid for it from the store. I think of the overage as gas savings ;)
|
So, we got a Wii finally! Lucked out and heard about the first shipment to come into my county (from what it sounds like) in about a month. Personally enjoyed tennis, golf, bowling, though boxing gave me a headache since I forgot to take my allergy meds. I may try it again after the meds and the ibuprofen kick in.
Just got back from BB where we got Mario Kart with a wheel. Going to check it out... in probably about 1.5 minutes. I'm looking forward to getting more games. Fun! |
We have reserved Mario Kart....now just have to go down and pick it up.
|
I think I am going to buy Mario Kart, since it can be played online.
|
It is SO fun.

In other news, just doing the sports stuff has made my arms a little sore. In that good "I just worked out" kind of way. Nice.. |
Anyone get Wii Mario Kart yet?
|
<--- I did!
It's fun... Only have done a handful of the cups, and they're fairly easy so far, but I will see as the game continues. It's really nice as a wind-down sort of game. We're looking to get a second wheel, and I think it'll be more fun for the two of us, since we're a little competitive with one another. They had a kit with all the stuff in it (dual charger, driving wheel, golf wedge, bat, tennis racket, wheel, some other random stuff) for something like $40 or $50, which we may get since we were wanting the charger anyway and the standalone wheel is $10 - but they were out of the plain old wheels, so we're looking into it and will either decide to buy it online, or give into our impatience and pick it up retail. |
Awesome!! I should be picking up my copy today (there's a Gamestop walking distance from my work that I'm in a few times a week...) I'll PM you my number once I get it and we can play over the net :)
|
Quote:
I consistently hear that the extra sporting stuff is a waste of $$$. Amazon and I think buy.com has the wheel for $9.99. |

Egads I want to play. And I need some Miis so that I can have my friends in the audience. Yeah, that's why... |
If you have wireless in your house, you just go into the Wii Settlings and enter the LAN information (thats how mine is connected too). Then you can send Miis back and forth, go on the shopping channel, the news channel, the Everybody Votes channel, weather, etc. And you can send messages back and forth to friends on their Wiis (as long as both of you enter each other's friend codes).
And of course then you can play Super Smash Bros. and Wii Mario Kart over the nintendo network. :) |
Yeah, I just looked in on that at the Nintendo website. I'll be hooked up to-nite!
I'm so stoked I finally got my Wii... I'm such a nerd! |
I got Mario Kart yesterday.
So stoked on it so-far. The online play is great. If you would like to race, PM me. |
The Wolfpack has it also....I know Wolfette would LOVE to challenge Chernie! How exactly do we set this up?
|
OOooh! I'm going to hook up teh interwebs momentarily!
|
PM me....want to do that also....PM and tell me how.
|
YAY!!! Le Cricket and I just played for a few hours, it was fun!!! Online is REALLY good.
Wolfy, under the wifi connections you can enter your friends' codes (which is DIFFERENT than your Wii friend code). Then you have options of racing with them and computer people, or with real random people, or creating private rooms with your friends. My Mario Kart Wii code is 1977-0594-4893. (FYI my regular Wii friend code is 1033-4876-9284-4611). Both people have to enter each others codes to be "friends" :) (But I think for the purposes of that game, just entering your MK code will suffice). (Also, is there any reason why I should NOT have my Wii codes out in the open? Everyone is so secretive for some reason... but both people have to enter each others to do anything anyway) |
Thanks Chernie, Hubby will find our code tonight and let you know what it is.
|
I just need to figure out my own Wii code. I'm wiitarded right now.
I want to get on Skype and do this, too. Must figure this out. Must, must, must! |
Quote:
(And I added that line to quotes - it deserved to be memorialized.) |
Great new word, Erica!!!:snap:
Okay, I'll figure out our code and we'll have to have a LoT Challenge. How many people can play at the same time online? |
I just got MK for Zach for his birthday. We will be playing by the weekend, Friday night I'm sure. I expect he'll be so excited we'll be playing as soon as we get home from his Bday movie. As he says "How often does a cool movie come out on your Birthday!" So I've agreed to go to Iron Man!
I'll have the kid help me with wii codes and get back to you all, so we can join the fun! |
How many people can play MK on one Wii at one time? Just two, or up to 4, or what?
|

Say *hypothetically* that someone finally got a teevee made in this century and *hypothetically* was considering getting one of these wiimarkable gaming systems. How much should one *hypothetically* expect to pay if one were purchasing said system from a reasonable vendor?
|
The Wii is $249 retail. It comes with the system, one controller, one nunchuck, and Wii Sports (game).
FOR SURE things you should purchase for the system when you buy it are: extra contoller for about $40, (one comes with the game Wii Play, which is $50, so it's worth the extra ten bucks to purchase Wii Play) and one extra nunchuck for $20. Optional to buy at the time of purchase is a Classic Controller for $20 -- if you're going to download older Nintendo games via the Wii Store (online). If you have a television with component hookup (i.e. any HDTV, or any television where there's a component video input) then for sure get a component cable for the Wii, which greatly increases the resolution. It retails for $30, but you can get one off of monoprice.com for like $5. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 |
OK, so I'm done (kind of) being stupid about my Wii.
My Wii # is 1033-4876-9284-4611 Mario Kart Wii: erica: 5370-0893-3586 Jay: 1032-1724-0400 |
Pru- get a recharger as well- you'll save a fortune on batteries.
|
Know how to get the MK number....how do we find our Wii number?
How do we set up friends? |
We don't have MK yet- I'll get that this weekend. I also don't know my Wii #, so I'll figure that out as well. Tori is looking forward to kicking ya'lls asses.:D

Quote:
To get your Wii number, from the main menu choose the messages (the envelope in the lower right corner), then choose create message (second from the left circle at the bottom), then choose "Address Book". It will then display your Wii number (it's a 16-digit number) and let you enter other people's numbers. To get your Mario Kart number from inside the game, you load your game and choose your license, etc. Then you choose "Wifi" connection (the lower left box -- 1 player means you have one player at your house, and 2 player means you have 2 players at your house). Then you choose "Friends" -- it will display your Mario Kart number (a 12-digit number). Then choose "Register a Friend" and enter your friends number. Once both of you have entered each others numbers you can play with each other. With your friends, you can either create your own room, have your friends join you (up to 12 people) and then play a game of all of your friends only. Or you can play other people around the world as well as your friends. You can view what your friends are doing, and join up with them unless they're already in a race. |
Out of curiosity - does Wii/MK let you know your friends are online?
Oh well, I will find out more tomorrow once I settle some router setting issues that I think is holding up the show around these parts. |
Quote:
MK DOES tell you when your friends are online and what they are doing (as it has done a "hard" connect to the Nintendo WFC). |
Hehe, just registered Cherny's code. If anyone else wants to play with J and me, just send me a PM or post your codes here.
YAY! |
I know my sister is getting me Amazon credit for my birthday. It was ostensibly for music, but I'm thinking a portion of it will be going towards Mario Kart...
|
^^ that's why I be waiting.
GD, they have the stand alone Wii Wheel for $9.99 and free super saver shipping (if you order both together it would qualify). |
Once y'all post your codes, we can have a happy little Mario Kart Par-tay, on a weeknite no less!
|
Hey, do you guys think Skype would work as a conversation medium for us when we're all together? The system doesn't seem conducive to simple chat. Or, for some of you, are your Wiis nowhere near your computers?
|
My Wii is in a different room than my compy. Is there a way to call a telephone number and connect to a skype room (I think there is)? Cuz I could chat with my bluetooth headset if that's possible, by calling the "LoT party line" on my cell phone.

I need to buy Mario Kart. It's cool.
I also need to practice driving. Whenever I play the game with others around the world, I know they all know something I don't. They always win. Those freaks! I want to be a freak, too! :D |
Heheh well GC its basically familiarity with the tracks that make you a better driver -- that, and being lucky enough to NOT get a race on 150cc :)
Also, I hear it is a little tighter to steer and whatnot if you don't use the wheel. But the wheel IS more fun. |
Darn, I forgot about that. I have to buy that steering wheel thing too...
|
The game comes with one wheel.
You also have to learn how to drive in "manual" mode, you get a speed boost. |
I got Mario Kart! YAY!
My Target has Wiis in stock too. |
Quote:
|
No shifting necessary. The "manual" refers to drifting around corners, not shifting. It's kinda odd.

Here's my Mario Kart code:
3480 3210 0233 codename: Bisquik :D For some reason, my Wii is saying that Greg's code is incorrect. ???? |
If other people add you as a friend is there a way to tell? (I'm fine if nobody adds me, just not sure what to expect if anybody does.)
|
I found the same thing, GC.
I think you have to add them for it to be worth anything... both parties must register one another in order to communicate, trade Miis, etc... |
Hey, y'all. Send me your Miis. My Mii is lonely all by himself...
:( |
Yeah greg's code doesn't work for me.
I entered everyone else's tho (Jen, add me!). Alex if both people are friended on the Wii then you'll be able to send them messages. Their name will appear in grey if you aren't friended, and black if you are. |
When I added GD's code last night it didn't say it was wrong.
|
My Wii 3032 2205 1717 4981
If your Wii code is posted, I added you. If you add me and send me a message, I'll send you my Mii. |
I added GD, CP, blueerica, Cherny, Alex and BTD.

I'll have one soon...

1289-8852-2638 |
Okay, so I think we've registered all of the Kart codes that people have posted (Cherny, Erica, Jay, BTD), but they all still show "?" and say they are not our friends yet.
|
I sent my Mii to those who have friended me back.
Trying to figure out the MK friend thing now. |
I haven't added your correct number yet GD since I'm still at work writing this fracking 15 page opposition (yuck). So that's why I am not showing up. (I do have you guys Wiifriended tho, just not you on MK).
I haven't added BTD yet either but I will when I get home. :) Not that I'm going to be playing over the next few weeks -- tell me though if you see me on -- that would mean that Cheese Man is doing a drive-by Wii-ing ;) |
The book says that if 1 person is online and registering a friend and the friend is offline, the first person must log back in after the 2nd person logs off. But if the ? doesn't disappear to redo the ID number as it may be wrong.
|
Jennie kicked my BUTT!
|
Well, we figured it out....see everyone else soon :)
|
I created a compilation of the Wii and MK numbers. It can be viewed here
If you want to be added as an editor PM me your email address. Please check for accuracy and edit as necessary. |
oh yeah- I will check out my friend code and get hooked up with you all to play :)

Surprise Nintendo news today. A new channel was launched: "Nintendo Channel."
Here's a pretty good video walk through of what it offers. It's not all THAT interesting, imo, but a couple cool things. Basically, a lot of videos of game demos. Eh, whatever. Although it's got things like interviews with developers which might be cool. On the slightly more interesting side, it gives you easy acceess to downloadable, playable game demos. And it introduces a recommendation system that lets you go in and say how much you like a game, who in your household liked it, whether you'd recommend it and to whom. Kinda interesting, and I think they'll be using that data to push game recommendations out to you, if they aren't already. Another site says that if you're looking at info on a game within this channel, there's a link that takes you to the internet channel and a list of online retailers that you can then order from, which sounds pretty convenient. Not spectacular, and clearly just another way for Nintendo to market at us. But I'm curious to see where they go with it. |
Okey dokey.. I'm not in the Mario Kart loop. Give me till Monday on that one.
But out Wii # is 7006 6533 3021 0649 I already added a bunch of people to my list tonight, so someone will have to show me how to see Jen's Swanky Miii's! |
Cherny sent me some wonderful Wiis before my wireless went out. He's talented! :)

I think the Lisa Mii is the best representation of a LoT character. Did CP make that one? |
Yep. CP made most of ours.
She's become quite the artisan, enters a lot of the contests on the Mii posting channel. |
GC, when I was scrolling the thread adding folks last night, I ended up with two numbers for you, why is that?

There's a piece of music that plays while you're creating Miis. A part of it sounds like "Smooth Operator" by Sade.

If everyone is truthful, I just played Mario Kart with people from the UK, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Brazil and Canada. All in one race. Pretty freakin' awesome...
:) |
I got a Mii with a name I don't recognize (biskit or something like that). Is there a way to tell who sent a Mii?
|
That's GC. If you click on it it should tell you who the "artisan" was, assuming he put a name you know in that field.
|
I am Bisquik.

I love Mario Kart.

How are the motorcycles?
|
Dunno yet. I'm workin my way through the cart only 50cc first.
I was having trouble getting drifting down, but in the harder races I see a definite need for it. Rainbow whatever it's called is kicking my butt. I keep falling off. |
Hmmph. How come no one from the LoT has raced me yet?
Scared, perhaps? :D  |
Motorcycles are awesome. Takes a bit to nail the nuances down, but fun.

I just haven't had the time to play as much as I've wanted lately... and now I'm going away for a couple of weeks.
|
You can play at my place. Pack your wheel.

That boy was racing through his dinner as I waited for your room to open up. Is he ready?? No, race 2. Okay.... Is he ready NOW? No.... Tell Bisquick to wait for me! I cant, but it will be fine. As we got ready for bed... Mom, that was really fun. I cant beleive that I actually beat Bisquick in that race, can you? <sing song with head on pillow> I beat Bisquick I beat Bisquick... that was fun. As you saw by my scores, I am NOT a great video game player. |

You missed the commentary on our side of the planet.
NJ, I got a bomb, what does that do? Just push the up arrow Mom! But what does it do? I dont know! NJ I got a mushroom, what does it do? Push it! I read the directions for my bedtime reading thank you. |
That was so much fun. I was confused who Nathan was until I saw Ponine. And read the speadsheet.
GC, I know I was shelling and inking you (since you were the leader). Ponine, I googled Mario Kart Wii and found some helpful sites to better explain the weapons. No cheats or anything, but more detail then the book. |

We did.

Humm, I've not bothered to setup the network connection on the Wii perhaps I need to.
With say Mario Cart, How many racers can connect up? Could we have Friday night LoT races? |

Just added our Wii to the database. Still have to get my own Mario Kart number (he's played it, I haven't tried it out yet), but I added what we have to the list. Anyway, for ease of lookup, here's our basic wii addy:
8293-1834-0323-6975 |
So, I should pack my wiimote? hehe
|
I added a column to the spreadsheet for the Smash Bros. Brawl # if you have the game; hopefully its showing up.
|
|
It's awesome!
|
I cannot see the video.. but the conversation last week went something like this.
Me in the car driving home, phone Rings Me:hello? Offpsring: Mommy, are you line for my WiiFit yet? Me: I'm sorry, YOUR WiiFit? O:Okay, are you in the line yet? Cuz dont forget, it came out today and we pre-ordered and paid for it. So, in the line I went. (there was no line) We now have Wii Fit, he's busy mastering the soccer ball game. My mother is mastering the hula hoop game, and I'm blasting my way through yoga. For all my falling over and clumsiness, I seem to be the family member with the best center of balance. Go figure. |
Yeah my video game budget for the month just went into Grand Theft Auto 4... haha that game rocks. It's just fun to steal cars, drive fast, and pick up on the gay boys (yes, there's a gay section of Liberty City, lol).
So does Wii Fit actually make you sweat? If I put it in my living room will my neighbors below hear me stomping on the thing? (Obviously though it is no substitute for the good ol' elliptical) |
Quote:
It's not that noisy, not a lot of jumping around. it's all done on the board, which should help cushion between the floor/ceiling. |
Quote:
and the stomping... so far what my downstairs neighbor has heard is the jogging. The soccer and hula hoops... nothing to worry about. Luckily for us, my downstairs neighbor is also a gamer, so we just dont jump on his head after 10pm. Otherwise, many of the games and activiites require to you leave your feet ON the Wii Fit board. Yoga is slow... etc. Now, when you are doing yoga and you fall over?? The downstairs neighbors WILL hear that. |
So are y'all still liking your Wii Fit a week later?
|
I am. I haven't had a whole lot of time to use it, but it's definitely a no-regret purchase.
|
Quote:
I've gotten to play with it more this time... so thats good. Lots more yoga, and lots of the step class. My son loves it. Trying to beat his grandmother at the hula hoop game. The tightrope thing makes me nuts..... and I cannot find a rechargeble battery or silicone cover anywhere! |
Quote:
Unless you mean specifically for the Wii Fit board, in which case, I have noooo idea :( |
Yup, I mean for the board.
GameStop wisely under ordered accesories, so they have zip. Target only brought in the yoga mat, walmart has nada... you get the idea. |
I'm still having fun with it. Sadly the boy unlocks new stuff quicker than I do, so I'm way behind.
I enjoy the stepping and yoga is very interesting, difficult at times but cool. I agree about the tight rope thing. I can make it like 14 feet and that's it! The boy has made it to the next level! He also unlocked something where you have to sit still and look at a candle. I walked into the living room this afternoon and couldn't figure out what he was doing. So dumb Mom has to ask and blow his concentration, oops. Way to go me! |
Freaking hell yeah, I just 2-starred the Special Cup (the one with Rainbow Road) on 50cc!
|
YAY! Rainbow Road is crazy hard.
And incidentally was the name of a porn shop I worked at in San Diego from 1998-1999. |
We rented a game for the Wii called Boom Blocks. The boy had been going on and on about it because Spielberg worked on it. At first I thought it was like a carnival game where you throw balls at blocks but it has turned into a lot of fun. You have to use logic to figure out which block to throw at, the right angle and have a plan.
Some of the puzzles have exploding blocks or disappearing blocks. You can compete against each other or work together or do story mode by yourself. We had a lot of fun with it this weekend and are seriously thinking of purchasing it too! |
I think I am addicted to buying video games. Seriously. I mean, I do play a lot of them, and I even finish a good deal (but not most) -- but every time I walk into Gamestop I walk out with something (even if it's a cheap used game). Seriously. In the last year and a half, besides purchasing the systems themselves, I must have 60+ games (and finished like 10). Eeek! I need to stop and just play what I have, but there's ALWAYS something new down the pipeline.... grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
|
Quote:
let me know how you feel two days from now. GD was talking about it too. |
Wii Fit chastises me when I don't use it for a few days.
The soccer game is kicking my butt. Not tiring wise, but score wise. Either I'm overcompensating when I move or my balance must really suck. I miss and get hit with the other objects. On the skiing, how do you move faster? |
Make sure on the skiing games that your center of balance is , well, centered.
On the ski jump one, you have to be in the yellow. As long as you are, you gain speed. |
Quote:
Boom Blocks is still a lot of fun. The puzzles get harder, obviously, but it's a thinking and aiming game and I like that. I still have more to unlock but I'm having fun with it. It's amazing to me that the boy is doing well too, better than me actually. Considering he does think it out and try to figure what's the best move. He just goes willy nilly and makes some amazing shots! I just don't get it. It's like watching him Wii bowl, he literally winds up and throws crazy but the ball goes straight! One little wrist move and my ball goes crazy! Cherny, I hate soccer too. I get hit with more cleats than balls sometimes! I think I have bad reactions or maybe my feet don't go where my head does?! In skiing make sure you watch the center of gravity sclae in the top right and lean forward to get more speed but make sure your still centered. |
My center of gravity doesn't exist.
Ok, I didn't know about the scale. I'll have to look for that. |
I've been playing Guitar Hero II next door with my friend Cam and his girlfriend. I think I am addicted. I have the song Cliffs of Dover in my head...
Talk about a genre of music I kinda ignored and maybe shouldn't have totally... but the classic rock tunes I remember are wonderful. :) I blame Nephy for this one. Ms. Rock Mama at a party at Morrigoon's made it look like so much fun. :) |
Tori got a Wii Fitness yesterday, and it was the hit of her party. Lots of fun, although my balance sucks so I may never get anywhere with it.
|
Keep trying Wendy, you can do it! Stay away from the tightrope then. I can only make it 10 feet.
I'm actually pretty bad at balancing too and some want you to do it on one foot:rolleyes: . The boy gets a kick out of Mom trying to be balanced and it swings everywhere! There are some fun ones on there too. |
My balance totally sucks. I'm actually actively working on improving it through posture and how I sit. Yoga really helps with it too. My muscle tone is horrible which makes my balance off. My balance has always been off and I've just learned to compensate.
On another note, Rockband Wii came out yesterday. But it's a completely stripped down version from the PS Rockband. No online support, no online downloads. A disk will be released with more songs, but the word on the street is to wait. Either get GH IV this winter or hold out until they upgrade Rockband. |
I hear there's a Guitar Hero coming out starring Aerosmith. (I wonder if madmonkeygirl knows...)
|
GH4 will probably be our next purchase. Alex wants the drum kit, but not for $190
|
Played some of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith tonight. It's pretty good. You have to play for a bit before you get to "Sweet Emotion"... The computer animated Steven Tyler looks weird and spooky.
|
Gary was going to get it but the xbox went into the dreaded blinking red lights mode and we have to send it in. The good news we received the box to send it in today. The bad news is gary goes back out of town on Monday. He's so bummed.
|
The good news is, it may be back when he gets back :)
|
Very true and I'll surprise him with the game too!
|
Bought Boom Blox based on previous comments here and generally good online reviews.
It is fun to play some of the puzzle types but so far I'm not finding it very challenging. |

I hope Resident Evil 5 comes out on the Wii; as pretty as the Ps3 trailer is, the controls for RE4 (Wii edition) were f'in amazing. |
Not that I can find it, but...
Does anyone have Mario Kart, and if so, is it worth trying to find? |
Quote:
Yes, it's worth finding. :) And, if you wanna race me and lose. Let me know. :D |

Ok, so I don't have a jack anywhere near the TV. I was also lucky to be able to set it up at all. |
MG, the Wii will connect wirelessly, you just need a wireless router for your current internet box (be it DSL or cable). They're like $40-$50 at Best Buy.
Not to be totally off topic but yesterday I bought Singstar for the Ps3, which is a karaoke game. Cheese man and I did our best Amy Winehouse last night.... he said I sounded like a white Eartha Kitt! ;) Anyone who wants to come over and play is welcome! |
Quote:
It does truly get more difficult but you have to get through all the training modes. Of course the beginning puzzles are really easy but I'm still having fun with it. I really hate the defend ones where you are defending your fort and gems against invaders. I'm pretty sucky at it! |
My wife is addicted to Boom Blox, I just keep hearing her yell ?@#% monkeys from the other room

|
You should have permission now.
|
Now the big question is.. how do I find our number so I can give it to all of you?
|
Quote:
From the Wii Menu, click on the envelope on the lower right corner to go to your Wii Message Board. On lower left, click Create Message. On the right, click Address Book. Bingo! Yeah, it makes no sense. This is also where you add people. Click Register, then Wii, then click to add a Wii number. |
Let people know when you add them.
I know I haven't turned my Wii on in a few months. :( |

Y'know what we SHOULD do is just pick a nite for a LoT Kart-party. You know, everyone gets on their Wii and we open a room. My vote is for this Thursday, July 24. Game starts at 7:30pm PST. Can anyone else make it? |
In.
Better spend the next couple of days making sure we've got everyone's numbers. |
I can make it
|
I can't view this link at work but the title implies it's about the Wii Friend codes.
|
It doesn't say much. Nintendo says, "Yes, we know it sucks, but it's the only way we could think to guarantee people don't get harassed and we're working on trying to think of a better way."
|
Cherny, I'm game but I'm Wii setup chalenged. What do I need to do?
|
Quote:
I can't find the link -- can someone please forward the link to the google docs document with everyone's friend codes to Laura? Basically, you'll enter my friend ID# and I'll enter yours. Then we'll be Mario Kart friends and you'll be able to see me in the game. I'll create a room that everyone will join, and then we'll be able to play together in that room. |
Cherny, I got my code 0431-0119-0204. I looked through past posts and found your Kart code and Wii code. I will try to do this Wii connention without hubby. Wish me luck!!!!
|
Laura, if you PM me your email address i'll send you the link to the Google Document.
|
Bartop,
I just sent my e-mail to you via PM. |
I have just updated the Wii google Doc with my numbers.
What the next step for Thursday? |
If anyone else wants to be added PM me your email address and I'll send you the link.
|
OK so I have entered everyone's Mario Kart # that is on the google docs list as of this morning.
(Morrigoon, I don't have yours since it isn't up there, but I DO have Alex as a friend, so you may just have to use his license and it should work fine). I don't think everyone has to have everyone in the room "friended", only the person creating the room. That is, ME. So go enter my number, because I have already entered yours :) My Mario Kart # is 1977-0594-4893. I will create a room starting at 7:20pm PST tonight and wait for everyone to join. I think you just go into the Wifi connection and see what I am doing and join my room. If you come late and we're in the middle of a race, you can probably still join the room and play in the next race (as long as the room isn't full -- there's a max of 12 people including me for the races). This is the first time we're doing this, so there might be some bugs. If you're totally lost on where to go or what to do give me a call, but it should be relatively self-explanatory. I hope ;) |
Excited!!!
|
I have to admit that I played kart last night to get the feel of the game again, and thank god I don't drive like this on the real road.
I totally suck at Wii Kart. |
I kick some serious ass against the computer. Lord knows how I'll do in a real race.
|
^^ haha then you'll probably win... I mean, I've BEATEN the computer a ton of times, but when I come in first luck has a lot to do with it.
Also, if I have a guest on my end, it is Gemini Cricket -- I'm not sure if he sent me his Mii, so he may be playing a different toon :) |

There's 6 of us here...
|
Nephy if you're trying to get on we have an open room right now... keep checking back...
|
I'm leaving, I have homework.
Nephy, go for it! |
LOL fun times :) :) I hope nephy comes on!!
|
Whee!! That was fun guys. Next time I think we should do a few more of those coin levels, that was cool.
Greg totally kicked everyone's butts... I was sooooo on an off nite lol. |
Ugh, that stadium level for the coin thing confused the heck outta me.
Umm, sorry for kicking everyone's ass. The last time I played against humans I was decent but not great. I guess playing the 150cc against the computer's kinda made me better. That was really fun, I had a good time. |
Sorry I had to cut out so early. Math was calling.
That was the first time in a few months I turned on the Wii, let alone play MK. I'm impressed I remembered how to find the friends area. Super fun! Let's do it again! |
That was fun.
:) |
WHAT A BLAST!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Cherny for setting that up for us. I'm sorry if I ran over anyone. I'm a bit spastic when I play Kart. I really needed some Wii time. |
Maybe if we do this again I'll use a different vehicle. As I discovered on the coin levels, I'm crippled if I'm not playing with the bike I usually ride. I should practice driving others.
|
I was just not doing well in general -- and that S-L-O-W acceleration offroad kart didn't help me any. It's strange with video games -- just sometimes I'm in that "zone" and do great, and sometimes I'm not. But last nite was still way cool.
I liked the coin levels because it seems that everyone is on a more level playing field. FYI if anyone didn't know, Morrigoon was "Talon" (her boyfriend's Mii) because I didn't have her entered by the time everyone was joining the room and didn't want to back out of the room. I wish I could type in a "personal" message to people but oh well, that's Nintendo and its kid-friendly crap for you. :D |
AUGH- I is so sad!
Our house is totally torn up because we are putting down new flooring- I could not even GET to the Wii last night due to the mess and uproar. I will make the next one! Just so I can beat Cherny ;) |
Hahah it isn't that hard to beat me :) It's GD you gotta watch out for!!
|
Yes, the only conclusion we can come to that GD has so many wins is that he cheats.
:D I think we should schedule our next LoT race soon. :) |
:) 'Twas fun! I did better than I thought I would...

The lil' Swanies are in for a Wii surprise this Christmas. We have the console and a few games, but haven't purchased the extra controllers yet. We plan on getting 3 additional remotes (one with the Wii Play), but how many nunchuks do we need? We've heard from someone that most of the games that use the nunchuks are only 2 players, so...would we just be wasting money on buying a full set? |
There are some games, like Super Smash Bros Brawl, which 4 people can use a nunchuk accessory at the same time.
|
Mario Kart
Ravin Rabbids Smash Bros Mario Party -plus many many more need both accessories. It is not a waste to have 4 of each |
We stopped at two Wiimotes with nunchucks, since most of our friends have Wiis, so they can always bring their Wiimotes over if we have a game night. :)
So far on games, we have Wii Sports, Wii Play, Disney ThinkFast, Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None (love the point-and-click adventures!), Sims 2 Castaway, Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility, and Chocobo's Dungeon. Soon, thanks to some incoming holiday gift cards, we'll hopefully acquire Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Kart, Raving Rabbids 2, and Zelda. I also want a Wii Fit and Raving Rabbids TV Party so I can play with my ass. I figure this will keep us nice and entertained for at least the next year. ;) |
Disney ThinkFast....??? Details please!
|
I keep playing Guitar Hero: World Tour on Wii.
|
Guess what Santa brought?
Yep! :) So what games are must haves? |
Looks like Rock Band 2 will finally motivate us to buy the component cables. Even without the cables the system looks good on our TV, but the lyrics in Rock Band are SMALL, so for the first time the not-quite-digital picture is actually affecting game play. Near illegible. Hopefully going component will fix that.
|
Beatles Rock Band, 9/9/09.

So what's everyone's favorite game these days? I am looking to pick up one or two new ones.
I still play MarioKart on occasion so if anyone is interested in a virtual meetup, I'm game. |
I really love the new Super Mario. But it's quite difficult, if you haven't played Super Mario since NES, you might want to pass.
|
I hear Toy Story is good. Amazon's Gold Box deals look to be Wii-centric today.
|
Toy Story is good...for 10 year olds. There really isn't much to it, from what I saw at a friend's house.
|
I was never a big Super Mario player, so I would probably be really bad at the Wii version.
Anyone have Wii Sports Resort? The sword-fighting game looks like fun. |
Poor, poor, poor Wii. Nintendo seriously effed that one up. They took this amazingly fun, innovative controller and then dropped the ball on the games.
Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing games on the Wii. Metroid Corruption, Mario Galaxy, Zelda Twilight Princess, No More Heroes 2, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, and of course everyone's tried and true, Wii Sports. But I played those. Two years ago. I love RPGS. I caught up on some Gamecube RPGs via the Wii. There's nothing in the pipeline for the Wii for RPGs, at all (and I think there were one or two that came out, and they were poorly reviewed so I didn't play em). I may fire the Wii up again for Epic Mickey, Super Mario Galaxy 2, or the next Zelda game (rumored to come out October 2010, but rumors always get pushed back). But that's really it. Meanwhile, there seems to be a new Ps3 game every month that I'm playing.... |
Quote:
We have enjoyed Wii Sports Resort. The boy uses swordplay for PE some days. I enjoyed Boom Blox but I like puzzles and knocking stuff over is always fun;) The boy agrees with Cherny's list with one caveat about Mario Galaxy" It's a fun game but if you get vertigo or dizzy easy than it won't be the game for you." |
I love Sports Resort! That one currently sees the most action.
|
Am I just getting old or does the new Wii-U thingy look really stupid?
|
You're not getting old: you got there a long time ago.
|
In the face of the Kinect, it seems really dumb to me.
