Holidays '07
I received my 'Backstage Pass' today.
Oh, the beautiful sparkling new holiday look for Sleeping Beauty Castle. It states that it began November 16th... Has anyone seen this? It says it is done in three stages. It looks absolutely beautiful. |
I like it... mostly.
They should have dropped the other shoe and lit the back of the castle too. Looks kinda half-a$sed as it is right now... During the day, the castle doesn't look as good as it does at night. The Christmas tree on Main Street is pretty as always. NOS looks great. The parade and the fireworks are cool. :) |
One day I'll get to the park again....
I was thinking we should have a LoT Holiday meet. |
Thanks for the review, GC! Maybe they want to make it look sort of like a scary dark castle?
NA, it sounds like it might be in order!! This sounds like a new experience and so I do think it merits a 'meet'. I am dying to go. But, I did turn down going on Wednesday. I figure it will be a madhouse. So, I will just be here, sadly preparing for the turkey to be stuffed and eaten. Next to the 'tofurkey'. But I will go!!! eventually.... Happy Holidays!!! |
Our passes have been expired for over a month. I wonder if we'll get to the park before the end of the year...
|
Not to diss the castle too much but...
"During the day, the castle looks like the Matterhorn sneezed on it." ~ CoasterMatt. :D |
LOL, yeah, that sounds about right....
this is what the mag says: "During the daytime hours, Sleeping Beauty Castle will appear to have a light dusting of snow, but it's really throughout the evening that the magic takes place, as you watch the Castle come to life and take on a magical glimmer. It's going to be so beautiful, you will want to make this a photo op several times each night!!" It also says it comes in three 'Acts'. Mmm...I won't type that out because maybe some want to be surprised.... |
It has now been 14* months since I was last in Disneyland.
(I'm excluding shooting the red carpet for Pirates 3 since my time in the park was completely limited to a 1.5 square foot spot on Main Street). |

I saw the first and second stage on Saturday. I love it.
LoT Christmas meet sounds fun! |
I'd love a meet. All decked out in our winter swank, and then finishing the night with a nice buttered rum or cocoa at Hearthstone...
|
I wish we could do that the weekend after next, but, I think too tight a schedule and another party to go to Saturday night!
Unless anyone wants to hit the park on Friday night, after Napa Rose? Hey, anyone heard from MickeyLumbo? I sure don't want to miss him if he's going to be around. |
I've been wondering where Lickey is as well- anyone heard from him?
|
Last I spoke to him he was super busy
|
The castle looks nice during the day and beautiful at night. But yes, whoever planned the gorgeous lightning seemed to have forgotten that there is a back to the castle that is viewable from you know, uhh, fantasyland. That's not just a facade "lighting dude".

If all goes as planned I'll be seeing it Friday. YAY!
|
I'll be at the park on Sunday- but I don't know what kind of mood I'll be in
If it's REALLY crazy busy, I'll have to play a game or 2 of 'Line to Nowhere' |
I don't know why no one's mentioned this yet, but by far the best thing Disney is doing for the holidays (or at least they did it this past Sunday) is, during the post-Believe snowfall, having teeny tiny Minnie and Mickey Mouse wander through the jampacked crowd on Main Street without handlers, hugging hundreds of people.
It was simply the most amazing and heart-tugging thing I've experienced at Disneyland in ages. |

Until I see it in person, my reaction is pretty much, meh.
|
OK. The Holiday schedule is always a difficult one to plan around, but some Sunday following Thanksgiving sounds like it might be a good day for a LoT Holiday Meet. It's been a while since we've done this sort of thing. I've almost forgot how to plan one.

I love the picture! I also didn't know anything about the Mickey and Minnie hugging people!! Too sweet!!! The Backstage pictures {I would imagine 'artists rendering'} remind me of Thomas Kincaide. {sp} I can't wait to go, don't know if I can make a Sunday meet but if I don't, I hope someone there takes a lot of pictures!!! |

this nearly made me laugh bagel through my nose, especially after I saw the picture. good one |
I think the castle looks beautiful- probably not so much in the daylight, though.
When we were there a few years ago during the holidays, Christmas Mickey was all over the place. We were on the Astro Orbiter late one night when Tori looked across the way and saw Mickey climb in behind one very surprised and delighted five year old. He rode the entire ride with Mickey and he couldn't have looked happier. Very sweet. |

I mean, you hardly ever see characters out at night. Simply wonderful. I got a back pat from Minnie and a big 'ol hug from Mickey the Mouse. Very cool. :) |

Uh, someone needs to make a trip to the park... :) |

But, you just have to admire and pay some recognition to the fact that the love for Disneyland is so strong, even 21 years later!! Do you dance when the commercial comes on the telly? {if it does in your area...} I do!!!:D |

LOL If you say it, it must be true!!! :p |
No fireworks last night due to Santa Ana winds.:(
There was snow but it was lame. All you could hear was the sound of the machines spewing out the soap bubbles. Where's blaring holiday music when you need it? But the castle was gorgeous. |
I have a co-worker looking for night time pictures of Small World. Does any one have any? Or can someone take some?
|
There is a buttload on that other board...
|
More specifically?

Stepping out of my primary roles at MousePlanet gave freedom for my extreme Disneyland burn-out to express itself. Even after this amount of time I find I still have no interest in going to the park. Maybe I'll wait for the 60th but I imagine a MouseAdventure will fit into my work schedule before then (not that those provide any time to actually visit the park in a fun way). I've been to WDW twice in that window of time. The first time we got there and realized we had no interest in going to the parks so we did other things for three days instead. We went to the parks again in late October but that was more about friends than the parks, if it had just been the two of us I think we might have canceled the trip. I'll probably be visiting DLP next fall as part of a much longer Europe trip and that will have the thrill of newness but otherwise at the moment I think whatever part of me enjoyed the parks for themselves (and not just as a place where I saw friends) has been bludgeoned to death through overexposure (it takes a lot of energy to not only know, but also have to care that four light poles in Tomorrowland have been painted with a new shade). Hopefully it regrows at some point. After making that 800 mile round trip drive a 6-10 times a year for almost seven years, it has been quite the change. |
