Christmas Music

I love Christmas music.

I've been looking for some non-traditional stuff, and so far I can recommend "Oy to the World", by the Klezmonauts - seriously! It's kind of fun, and their version of "Carol of the Bells" is actually quite beautiful.

And if you want really crazy - on the otherwise traditional "Happy Holidays" album from the US Navy Band is "Dueling Jingle Bells". Yes, it's what you think. Fire up the banjos!

Anyone else have recommendations?

I've got a couple of Motown Christmas CDs that have some pretty good stuff on them. Oh, and a Phil Spector/Motown one that's decent too. I need to dig them out.

Twisted Sister's Twisted Christmas is amusing.

Bob Rivers has a couple disks out that are great. Stuff like "The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen"," Wreck the Malls","There's Something Stuck Up In the Chimny" - A great rendition of "The Nutcracker Suite" with Richard Simmons. Hysterical.

Also, heheh there "What's It Gonna Be Santa?" from Chicago! :)

vvvvv

Yeah!

Uh!

Yowza!

No doubt some of our LA buddies have heard of the great Dick Cheese and his cover of Vince Guaraldi Trio's "Christmas Time is Here". Think Bill Murray's SNL lounge singer in a tiger striped tuxedo jacket

PM me with your email address if you like and I'll send you an .mp3.

At the end of The Madagascar Penguins Christmas short, there's a fun Klezmer version of Jingle Bells.

On a personal note, one of these years I'll finish my compilation of holiday songs for the intermarried couple. So far I'm up to "Oy, Tanenbaum," "Dreidel, shmeidel," "Oh hell," and "Enough!" (Dayenu!)

I'm looking forward to pulling out the Christmas Remixed CD

Apparently, there's a Volume 2 out.

I have two Christmas CDs by the Fab Four that are odd but they've grown on me.

Yep. There's 1 and 2 and they're both good.
There's also Merry Mixmas. It's good, too.

:)

We are stuck listening to Christmas music over our phones at work. Everyone is in protest. Luckily I have internet access and opened a Pandora account, so no sappy Christmas music for me.

Last year at WL I put in Manheim Steam Roller for Christmas and one of the girls complained. If I have to listen to Christmas music exclusivly I want it to at least be good.

Oh, also new to me this year: Christmas Spanking by the Asylum Street Spankers.

Merry Fvckin' Christmas - Mr Garrison
old, but still one of my faves

My oldie that I absolutely adore is the Holiday Sing Along with Mitch Miller album.

Oooooo.... My parents had the album! I didn't know it was out on CD. I must order it!

Whose got a big red cherry nose?

Try finding the Musak version to the mid 1970's hit novelty song Convoy............It's not a Christmas song but sounds like it should be:)

The song "Everybody's Waiting for the Man with the Bag" is a cool song.

Gemini Cricket 12-03-2007 06:37 PM

I never understood the appeal of Manheim Steamroller... Never liked them.

No, that's if you change the word Santa to Teddy.

Whose got a big red cherry nose?
Teddy's got a big red cherry nose.
Who drives this way; whoa whoa whoa
Teddy drives this way: whoa whoa whoa

Must be Teddy
Must be Teddy
Must be Teddy Kennedy.

I'm so old school when it comes to Christmas favorites. Give me a healthy dose of the Elvis Presley Christmas album and the Vince Guaraldi stuff and I'm a happy camper.

CoasterMatt 12-03-2007 11:11 PM

I love hearing the Nutcracker Suite at work- followed by the Shower Scene music from Psycho :D

Mousey Girl 12-04-2007 06:06 AM

All of the work appropriate soft rock stations here are playing nonstop Christmas music. Yesterday Same Auld Lang Sine (sp?) played 3 times in less than 2 hours. I think I am losing my mind.
