Desk catches up with cords
http://www.milk.dk/
While I'm not a fan of the style, I am enthused about a desk that actually hides cords. Electric devices have been desks for my entire life. It's about time. If you dig the style you can order a whole office to match. Then you can hire a severe German receptionist to act with disdain. |
I want it just for the fish tank!
|
yeah, the fish bowl is what got me too. the rest isnt really all that unusual. cubicles and such have used at least some of those ideas for awhile now like cable ports and the like.
still might be a nice little set up though |
I've had cable management built into several of my desks, and even the exterior of one of my computers, so I don't see the big deal there- the fish tank's pretty cool, though.
|
I see a difference between "cut a hole in the top of the desk" and "your table hides all cords from view without a bulky backstop...all cords plug into the table which then plugs into the wall....no more kicking the power strip with your feet".
|
I'm not talking a hole cut in the top of the desk either.
I've had outlets recessed into the underside of the desk, with a pair of outlets uptop for the monitor and system; one plug from the desk goes to the outlet (or APC unit). |
Love the concept but hate the execution.

You may no longer be kicking a power strip but now you'd be kicking the center post under the desk. Much more annoying I'd think.

I miss the last desk, it stayed with my parent's house when I moved out (BIG oak desk) |
See, there you go - you can't buy 'em in stores. That's my point.
|
Yeah, I'm with CP. I haven't seen that kind of stuff available retail. I hate the style of the sample here ... but I look forward to more beautiful stuff with the modern sensibility of power and cord management built-in.

Well, you can always get (or build) your own nice desk, and add a Cable Safe system.

Speaking of interesting desks....
I'm seriously thinking of building myself one of these: The Treadmill Desk ![]() |
I've seen those in person! They are so cool. I would love one, but i have to admit that it would be very difficult to type while walking, though I didn't try it. I just want a desk that is on hinges and can raise if I wish to stand or lower if I wish to sit. Don't want a full time standing desk.

I've decided to go with the theory: "If sitting is the problem, walking is the answer".
I've selected the treadmill I want and I'm heading out to Costco tonight to pick it up. After that I'll do a trip to home depot to pick up the other materials I need to build this thing. |
Wow! Cool and good for you, Moonliner. Have you tried typing while walking, though?

The reviews I have read have all said that walking & typing/mousing is not an issue, you just start the treadmill out slowly (like 0.6mph) and then work up to a faster speed as you get comfortable. |
