Monte Carlo Hotel (Las Vegas) on Fire

My dad just called - the top floor of the hotel is currently on fire - he can see the black smoke and everything. Looking for news on it...

Edit: Found a link.

BarTopDancer 01-25-2008 12:12 PM

zoinks! I can't find it on the inter-webs.

Disneyphile 01-25-2008 12:13 PM

I posted in a link in the OP now.

I hope everyone gets out safe ... and then I hope this horrible hotel, the worst on the Strip, burns to the ground.

Gemini Cricket 01-25-2008 12:22 PM

I suspect some rich person staying on the top floor was freebasing and *voosh*!

Monte Carlo Hotel (Las Vegas) on Fire

Luckily it's on the side of the strip i could care less about lmao...no really they just showed it on the local news here...just hope those who are in rooms can get out...glad i already have reservations at another hotel for April.

Kevy Baby 01-25-2008 01:27 PM

From the video I watched, it appears that rooms are burning.

I suspect that somewhere else on the strip, at this very moment, George Clooney and friends are stealing a buttload of money.

Kevy Baby 01-25-2008 01:31 PM

I should probably watch the Oceans films some day.

BDBopper 01-25-2008 01:42 PM

Oh my! I hope everyone gets out okay!

I'm definitely sick and twisted. When I first saw the news photo, the song "The Roof is On Fire" instantly popped into my head.

When I worked as a DJ at the Reuben's in Morro Bay (in the tourist part of town), one of the small gift shops caught on fire (we had an almost perfect view of the fire). Since many of the people in the club knew the owner of said store, the club was suddenly mostly deserted (and those who stayed were watching the fire.

So naturally, I played
  • Burning Down the House
  • The Roof is on Fire
  • Fire (The Ohio Players - and I would have played the Jimi Hendrix version if I had it)
  • Fire and Rain (there was also a slight drizzle that night)
  • Light My Fire
The bartender laughed. The GM scowled.

Monte Carlo loses $12.68 per second when it’s closed

Umm, there's also a little thing called "insurance" and "business interruption coverage". I'm not crying for them.

Business interruption coverage you say? Tell me more.

Rainy days, farmer's markets, you know.

alphabassettgrrl 01-26-2008 12:48 PM

On the radio coverage, they said people refused to evacuate the casino floor initially. Um, the building is on *fire*. What about this sounds like a good idea?
