"BLAST" from the Past
If you have a fond yearning for the days when DCA entertainment was fun with The Power of Blast playing at the Hyperion Theater in the glory days before Disney could create its own, far less stellar entertainment ...
BLAST will be playing a short run at the Orange County Performing Arts Center from February 5th thru 10th. I miss it. I remember the short version at DCA inspiring me to go see the full show at Royce Hall, and I was completely blown away. zapppop and I are going to the 6:30 pm performance on closing night, February 10th ... if anyone would care to join us for a night of reminiscent fun. |
Sounds like it would be a blast.
I'm in. |
I tried to score a pair of tickets yesterday from my company (they occasionally give season tickets away on nights when no exec wants 'em). No luck. Might be interested in going with ya'...
|
Well, we have seats already (J-52 and 53), so you folks would have to score some on your own.
But, ya know, bite to eat beforehand and/or afterwards. Schmoozing, reminiscing, toe-tapping, field-marching fun. |
I will be going today at about 1:30 today (Friday) to get tickets from the box office (avoiding the pesky surcharge). If y'all want tix, call me.
|
Okay; getting out a little later than expected. You may be able to reach me as late as 2:00 before I get the tix.
|
I can't wait!
:D |
G51, 52, and 53. Brad has to sit next to Susan.
|
Fuvk online ticketing systems and their bullsh!t about "best available." Bah.
Oh, well, since you will be four rows directly ahead of us, spitball throwing will be made easy. :p |

It may also be because we were getting three tickets. But, yeah, it was |

Blast!!! I wonder if that girl (Uncle Dicks fav) is still in the show? I saw the show when they where up in Sacramento a few years ago. I have the CD, somewhere... Have fun!

RIP "Blast Hips Chick" ;) |

That would be the one thing that would make me go - if there was also an Uncle Dick Meet.

EEEEWWWWWW The Smell!
|
OMG, that photo! Um, I think that was the day I met my favorite boyfriend ever. (Is my position, kneeling at his crotch, prophetic or what?)
And the day I met many other people, including Gemini Cricket ... who, about half an hour before that picture was shot, was told confidently by the towering 'Maniac' in the back row that I was Family. TeeHee. |
I think we need a "Where are they now" thread with that picture!!
|
Hmmmmm, I can answer some of those questions.

Is that Kamaka( Uncle D's chick) in the red? |
Have you found me in that picture yet?
|
We weren't there that day...but RallyMonkey, awinner and DisneyNick (shoot, what was his old screenname) were! Not to mention Steph - how many years has it been since you've lived here?
Wait, that was the day iSm met zapp? Damn, we missed out. |
Yup. It was quite a day!
It was Friday, August 2, 2002. Uncle Dick was planning to visit DCA since Kamaka (aka "The Blast Hips Chick") was quitting the show & planning to return home to Hawaii. By coincidence, another hawaiian personality, Gemini Cricket, was in town from Monterey and wanted to meet some of his fellow MousePadders. During this time, TDA was promoting a summer concert series of over-the-hill music acts, titled "Rockin' The Bay", which featured such headliners as The Temptations, The Turtles ("Featuring Flo & Eddie"), The Village People and many more. On this particular day, The Bangles were performing around 4PM on a temporary stage set up across from Golden Dreams. Between Kamaka's final appearance, The Bangles free live show, and Gemini Cricket's first meet, it's no wonder that so many people showed up that Friday afternoon. Among those people were 2 MousePadders, who were familiar w/ each others screenname but never met, innerSpaceman and zapppop. Aah! memories! BTW: Nick's old screenname was 'nmoreles', and yes, Kamaka is wearing red. |

Wow, thanks for the story Zap! Now did I meet you before iSm? |
Yes you did.
We met back in April or May for our first MouseAdventure. It's was about 3 months later I met Steve & Brad. |

Is anyone besides Zapp, ISM, GC, Susan and I going tonight?

Wow, that photo...it has people I recognize in it. There are a great many of you whom I have never met (and could not identify in a photo).
Blast was here a while back...for one show, I believe, on a weeknight. Pfft. |

GREAT show. I loved the shortened version that played at DCA, so naturally this one was that much better. Same Bolero start (which I absolutely adore). They have some great showmen in this production. Hopefully someone can give a better review than I. Really tired at the moment: need to go to bed. |
It was something in between the shorty-short-short DCA version and the full version I saw at Royce Hall while the "Power of" version was still at DCA.
Still, the show remains powerfully stimulating, energetic, kinetic, amazing, and magnificent fun. And yeah, the amount of pure male hotness that exudes from a good 60% of the company is still a signature element of Blast that I feel blasting from the stage. I'm so glad Brad was there, because it was at Blast 6 years ago that he found out I was "family." With that much male hotness up close and almost personal, there's no disguising my reaction. I was out to him within 5 minutes. A nice night with him and Kevy Baby and Gus Gus, and especially my dear sweet zapppop who was so happy to see the (nearly) full show at last, and revive some very happy memories of a show we consistently enjoyed during the early days of DCA. (It's hard to believe that park has actually gone downhill from its early days.) And a really nice, fun, enthusiastic dinner afterwards ... where we finally got to meet the elusive George (Gemini Cricket's dinner date). |
It was a blast!
:) Great fun, great friends, great show, great food... The show is fantastic. Loved every bit of it. The drummers and one particular drummer/trumpet player were exceptionally fine. ;) It was fun shooting the sh!t with everyone at dinner. Our poor waitress... :D George enjoyed meeting y'all. |

No, no, they said their goodbyes just outside the restaurant. I think it was supposed to be just a pure dinner date; GC mentioned that George would normally have been to bed, er, sleep long before that on a school night.
Besides, if George hadn't left right after dinner, how were Gemini Cricket, zapppop and I going to dish about George??? |
Contrary to what I may joke about, I'm pretty prudish when it comes to dating. I mean, I made my ex wait 3 months before anything serious happened. It's very important to find out if he wants me and not just it. If you know what I mean.
George is sweet, smart and a gentleman. :) |
You are a prude when it comes to dating and a slut when it comes to hook-ups. :p
I am Goldilocks in the middle. I make 'em wait 3 dates for the serious stuff ... but I don't do anything remotely serious with someone I'm not interested in a relationship with. You, Mr. Cricket, are no prude in my book. You're a wanton, gay sex maniac! |
tomayto, tomahto

I must be special ;) |

OOOoooooohhhhh |
Actually, zapppop was very special.
But considering the infamous Indian Village incident was before our first official date, it can't really be said that I gave it up to him on our first time out together. We had been flirting for a month, and got pretty hot and heavy in Indian Territory along the Rivers of America. The normal parameters or what was or was not a "date" were not in place. Oh, were we talking about Blast? What kind? |
Quote:
BTW: our first date was Tuesday, Sept 10th, 2002 @ the El Capt, watching an alleged 'restored' print of Sleeping Beauty. Speaking of BLAST!: click here to hear the soundtrack to the show. :D |
Still, that's a date as far as I'm concerned. I took you to the Indian Village (you'd never been there, had you?), and we did most everything two people can do without taking their pants off. Dinner and a movie were not necessary. We had Shaman entertainment, then we got it on.
That's a date. Look it up. BTW, is that link to anything different than the Blast CD? (I listened to it in the car yesterday, teehee. Oh, and I guess leaving out Officer Krupke does not make it less than the full show ... but I wonder why they cut that one number?) |
date [noun2]: an appointment to meet at a specified time
There was no appointment to go there. You just decided we were going there. Sorry, you're wrong. :) |
Ah, but I had it in mind all along. Since the moment I met you, mi amore, I wanted to whisk you away to the Indian Village. It was a surprise, it was a date. And a good one.
Ah Lakota, the language of love - - and the yummy effect it had on me for years afterwards!! But enough of this lovers' squabble about what and what wasn't our first date, and how much of a slut I am for putting out on the first or second (I'll grant you, it was not the third as is my current custom ... there, are you happy?) .... what about my Blast score question?? |
Don't stop now, this was getting good!
:D |
 Well, we kept our pants on ... but did I ever mention what zapppop did when he dropped to his knees in the dirt?
 |
Don't tell me he put his shoes under his knees and scooted around saying, "Lookit me, I'm a midget!" ?
|
Yes, but he said it in Lakota. ;)
|
I thought this thread was about a different BLAST from the past...
