Time to upgrade Fantasmic...

This is the way to use water screens, folks.

Pretty cool, especially if you can be far enough way to not hear the spray.

Imagine not knowing about it and looking out an apartment window and seeing that go buy.

Capt Jack 01-25-2008 01:22 PM

oh holy crap! half lit or half crazy, seeing that could seriously injure someones mind

love it!

Kevy Baby 01-25-2008 01:35 PM

That is freakin' cool! Really well done.

innerSpaceman 01-25-2008 01:45 PM

Still, it's a transparency. I saw the 3-Dish effect tests for this some time ago, and while it would make for cool Fantasmic additions, it doesn't represent any kind of advance for projecting classic Disney 2-D images.

It could just be the low-fi of the video, but it does seem that the spray itself is far more contained/precise/fine in that there's no obvious water screen around the image. I can see the skyline behind it clearly, while in Fantasmic! the fan of water is always blatantly obvious. Of course, that may be desirable in that it hides the stage during scene changes.

Awesome!

Cadaverous Pallor 01-25-2008 05:33 PM

Wow, awesomeness.

Yes, there was no notice of water screen. How'd they get it so fine? It must be more of a mist, though it didn't look "foggy" or anything. Very well done!

flippyshark 01-26-2008 12:08 PM

This was in Odaiba, which is precisely where I will be staying in three weeks time. However, I don't know if this stunt will still be going on by then. I sure hope so. I would love to see this in person.. (If it happens that way, I'll be sure to report back to you all.)

GusGus 01-27-2008 12:11 PM

Damn, the video's been taken down, can only see picture!

Another link for the video.

...and here's the movie trailer.

innerSpaceman 01-27-2008 02:44 PM

Alas, since it was a publicity stunt for "The Water Horse," a film which got decent reviews, but tanked at the U.S. box office, I don't think it will still be happening when flippyshark hits Nippon.

Of course, it could be a huge hit in Japan. But it's still likely to be only an "opening" stunt.
