LoT Exclusive - early 60's Disneyland movies
Here are some Disneyland movies I can guarantee you've never seen before. That's because they have been living in my Dad's garage, unseen for about forty years. I recently had them transferred, and thought I'd let you guys have a gander at them. My parents and my two older brothers are in the footage (though not much) and I'm pretty sure I wasn't born yet.
I hope this QuickTime movie is viewable by everyone. Let me know. |
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!

Flippy that was so cool. I loved all the music. Excellent job. So fun to see everything that's so familiar only not.
|
Groovy!
I dig the way everybody dressed so sharply. |
That was WICKED KEEN!
And the musical score ... brilliant. :snap: :snap: :snap: |
Not only did I love the DL movie, but I cheated and clicked on your Kubrick tribute song. I love it, too.
|
These could be MY home movies (if I had any). I'm trying to date stuff with a few clues - the skyway buckets being the main things that dates those shots to pre- 1965 but post 1959 because the Matterhorn is there. My first visit to DL was in 1965. Everything in these home movies seems so familiar to me. It's uncanny!
|
For a minute, I was like "what's the Matterhorn doing looking so prominent in Frontierland?" ... till I realized it was Cascade Peak.
I love the actual bobsled (not "bobsled-train") Matterhorn cars on the, ya know, actual Matterhorn. ETA: The Kubrick Song is TEH AWESOME! |
Those are really great shots! I think some of the footage may be earlier than the sixties, especially the shots of them fishing on Tom Sawyer's island. I believe that was a short lived event. They show it on the People and Places show on the Disneyland Secrets DVD which was shot in 1956.

I forgot how sparse the vegetation was compared to now.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Tonight, when I get home. :( Dratted firm.
|
You kick so much a$$!!! I love the movies! And, if I'm not mistaken, it looks like the camera man was totally going for a Goat Trick!
Fantastic! Also, the Kubrick song pretty much rocks... |
Wow! That was great. But what -- your parents have something against Tomorrowland?
Thanks! |
No, they have something against Main Street. Not a shot.
There was more Tomorrowland than Fantasyland, but all the "real" lands were represented. |
A Masterpiece!! When's the next "Flippy Treasures" series coming out?
 |
There used to be an establishing shot of the castle and Main Street at the front of this reel, but it got chewed up by a cantankerous Bell and Howell projector. (The tatters are still in my possession, however. They amount to only a few seconds.)
There are dozens of film reels I haven't yet viewed or transferred. I'm crossing my fingers that some more Disneyland footage will show up. In any case, there is most certainly some 80s footage I shot myself on my own Super 8 movie camera. That's sure to show up one day. (Not yet transferred.) |
That was great to watch, Flippy. Thank you!:snap:
|
It doesn't work for me, all I get is yellow and green fuzz.
|

I figured Main Street would look like Main Street so no big deal. I will watch it again. |
Loved every minute of it! I don't want to miss the next one.
|
Awesome!
:) I likes the music! I miss Cascade Peak. |
I messed up the links on my .mac page and the one on the original post won't work. So, for anyone who hasn't seen them yet, this link will take you to the Disneyland footage.
|
I'm sad that I still can't see them. Am I the only one that gets the fuzzy yellow and green screen?
|
You're the only one who's mentioned it. Do you have QuickTime? (admittedly, the movies themselves are a little fuzzy and greenish yellow, but they are watchable. Hmmm.)
|
Yes I have quicktime. Don't worry I'll ask my husband when he gets home. Thanks for posting them!
